India's men's cricket team all-rounder Hardik Pandya is expected to miss the upcoming two World Cup league matches after suffering an ankle injury in the Bangladesh game, according to a report in The Indian Express. Pandya will only be available for the last two games against South Africa and the Netherlands as the team management does not want to rush him into the playing XI.&nbsp;

The report stated that Pandya had not started to bowl after the injury and the match against England on the weekend would be too early for him to return to action. "It's an incredibly tough challenge to win in India. Naturally, I think the sub-continental teams will feel more at home with the conditions," Woakes said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

"That makes it extremely hard for us to knock them off their perch, so to speak. But we've got the squad and the players to be able to compete. People have looked at us for a while, and we've had a little bit of a target on our back as a white-ball team, around the world.

"It's a tough competition to win, isn't it? Especially here. But we'll give it a good crack. We're taking it each game as it comes. Naturally, people have got expectations of us, and we've certainly got our own expectations of ourselves,” the right-handed seamer added.

<h2>‘Would’ve liked to bowl a bit better’</h2>

Having gone wicketless in the World Cup opener against New Zealand, conceding 45 runs from six overs, Woakes returned to his best against Bangladesh, picking two wickets, including those of Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.&nbsp;

Aware of his below-par show so far in this tournament, Woakes admits he should have bowled better.&nbsp;

However, with him liking to peak at the right time, the veteran seamer is sure of contributing with more wickets.

"It's the start of a long tournament," Woakes said. "I certainly feel that I would've liked to have bowled a little bit better, but they are long competitions, and you don't want to peak too soon, I suppose.

"I have built into tournaments in the past and into series, which I suppose holds me in good stead moving forward. But you contribute every time you go out in the field, so I'll be working hard in practice to try and make sure that I'm on the money when I get the opportunity,” he added.

India will take on the Dutch on Tuesday, October 3 while England will take on Bangladesh on Monday. India vs England ODI World Cup warm-up contest called off as rain plays spoilsport in Guwahati

India's veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made a last-minute entry into the ODI World Cup squad and he is now focused on enjoying the tournament. Ashwin was included in the India squad as a replacement of Axar Patel who unfortunately got injured in the Asia Cup 2023.

While Ashwin did well in the two games he played against Australia in the three-match ODI series after the Asia Cup, the bowler said that dealing with pressure is paramount in the World Cup. Notably, Ashwin took four wickets in two games he played against Australia, including a three-wicket haul in the second ODI.

Speaking on the sidelines of India's warm-up game against England on September 30, Ashwin, however, said that he did not think to be in the World Cup squad.

"I would have said that you were joking. Life is full of surprises. Honestly did not think I would be here. Circumstances have made sure I am here today, the team management have shown trust," said Ashwin when asked if he thought he'd playing in the World Cup.

"All you can do is turn the ball both ways, and I think I can do it. Dealing with pressure is paramount in these tournaments and it will dictate how the tournament goes. Being in a good space, enjoying this tournament will keep me in good stead. This could be my last World Cup for India, so enjoying the tournament is of utmost importance," added Ashwin.

"We are more disappointed (than you) and we respect the emotions of our fans and the country. We are sorry for whatever happened. Talking about the match, India elected to bowl first and restricted England to 153 for 7, who rode on Kevin Pietersen's 46 and Ravi Bopara's 37. In reply, India promoted Ravindra Jadeja over Yuvraj Singh and paid the price for it as the then-inexperienced spin-bowling all-rounder made a scratchy 35-ball 25. From India, Gautam Gambhir, Dhoni, Yuvraj and Yusuf Pathan added runs on the board but it wasn't enough as India managed 150 for 5 in 20 overs.

On his decision to promote Jadeja over Yuvraj, Dhoni said, "Sometimes you don't know what would happen. We thought Jadeja could stabilise the innings as well as go after the bowling. He did try but somehow he always found the fielders. It was unfortunate it didn't work for us. We needed somebody to play percentage cricket at that stage."

"We failed in batting. If the opposition scores 153 and you cannot achieve that on a track like this, I don't think there can be any excuse. You just cannot explain that. We lost simply because we did not bat well. I'm rather happy with the performance of the bowlers," he added.

After the 2009 T20 WC, Dhoni led India in every edition of the marquee event till 2016, taking them to the final in 2014 and the semi-finals two years later at home. Since India's 2007 T20 WC triumph, they are yet to lift the mega title once again.

Harbhajan also advised India to learn from England's approach in T20Is and follow the same template to achieve success in the shortest format.

"It is hurting, more because that we did not fight at all,” Harbhajan told India Today in the Battle of Champions show," Harbhajan was quoted as saying by India Today.

England chased down the target of 169 runs with ease to knock India out of the tournament and book a spot in the final.

It was a disappointing bowling effort from the Indian bowling attack, which was taken to the cleaners by England openers Alex Hales and Jos Buttler. India manages to post a fighting total on the board despite getting off to a shaky start but the bowlers failed to turn up as Buttler and Hales had a cakewalk at the Adelaide Oval.

The duo looked in terrific touch and went all guns blazing at the top to make the most of the Powerplay. After blasting 63 runs in the Powerplay, there was no looking back for Buttler and Hales as they went on to notch up half-centuries apiece and took their home comfortably with a record 170-run stand for the first wicket.
