Federal investigators in the United States have obtained DNA evidence to prove that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) married her brother and committed immigration fraud, The New York Post reported. Two people told the outlet that this includes the DNA samples, whatever was discovered during last week's search and other findings. Earlier reports also claimed that the investigators went through her trash to get DNA samples, but a source denied this. Omar and her father are also being investigated to determine whether her birth date was misrepresented in the immigration papers. Elmi is currently in the UK and is said to have applied for a marriage-based green card, but withdrew his application in 2019.
Search raises questions ahead of midterm elections
The search has drawn attention because it comes just weeks before the US midterm elections, in which Omar is seeking re-election to Congress. Omar, meanwhile, has framed the search as an attempt to intimidate political opponents and has vowed not to be silenced.
Trump attacks Omar
President Donald Trump repeatedly mentioned Minnesota and Rep. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation," she said, adding, "I will not be silenced." The Department of Justice confirmed that investigators from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a division of the Department of Homeland Security responsible for criminal investigations, had executed a judicially authorised search warrant. The department said the warrant had been secured by the DOJ and that the enforcement action was part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation. However, officials did not identify Omar by name in their statement or disclose the specific subject of the investigation, according to CBS News. 'She married her brother': Ilhan Omar faces criminal probe over immigration fraud claims

President Donald Trump delivered a heated and controversial campaign-style speech in Florida on Friday (May 1), where he launched into a long attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar, using an unusual accent while mocking her and repeating unproven allegations circulating in conservative circles. In an imitation that sounded like a British accent, Trump appeared to mimic Omar. “I believe she married her brother, which is totally illegal,” Trump said. “It's a lovely couple, actually, but it's a little bit on the illegal side. ‘Darling. I love you very much.’ ‘Good night, brother. Let's go to bed.' The remarks were made at The Villages, the nation’s largest retirement community, where Trump was promoting what he described as achievements tied to his 2024 campaign promises, including Social Security tax relief. However, the legislation he referenced does not eliminate Social Security taxes. Instead, it provides additional deductions for seniors between 2025 and 2028, despite Trump previously campaigning on fully removing taxes on Social Security, tips, and overtime. Also Read: Trump’s Qatar-gifted Boeing 747 set for Air Force One debut after clearing tests
Watch the video here of Trump mocking Ilhan Omar

What a phony.” The president also extended his criticism to California Governor Gavin Newsom, suggesting cognitive testing and referencing his own past evaluations. “We should give him a cognitive test,” Trump said, adding, “I took three of them. Aced all of them, by the way. I'm the only president to take a cognitive test.”
Here's how Ilhan Omar reacted to Trump's comments
Rep. Ilhan Omar responded to Trump's remark by saying, “This unhinged rant would solicit anger if it wasn’t coming from a criminal, who has 34 felony convictions, held accountable for rape, and accused of being a pedo. I still don’t know how anyone would willingly humiliate themselves like this, but here we are. Btw, the pedophile protection party should find new material for their deflection.”

Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett, have reportedly seen their net worth surge to roughly $30 million. This dramatic surge has reportedly drawn scrutiny from the right-leaning National Legal and Policy Centre (NLPC) with allegations of potential fraud. Omar has reportedly publicly stated that she is “not a millionaire” and dismissed these claims as part of an organised misinformation campaign since her election. Omar has been the focus of public criticism recently, specifically from the right-wing segment. US President Donald Trump specifically took an interest in her immigration status, and some republican commentators tried to connect Omar’s financial disclosures and Minnesota’s fraud cases. However, no official evidence ties Omar to fraud and financial activity.
Omar's source of wealth
The majority of Omar's wealth comes from her husband, Tim Mynett's business. Mynett co-founded a venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital, which reportedly saw its valuation increase from $5 million in 2023 to $25 million by the end of 2024. Another is a winery eStCru, which has reportedly seen its worth increase from tens of thousands to between $1miillion-$5million in 2024.
Ilhan Omar and the Minnesota welfare fraud
The venture capital firm has reportedly removed names and biographies of at least nine Rose Lake Capital officers, including former Obama officials. This comes amid the $9 billion Minnesota welfare fraud investigation, which is considered one of the largest welfare frauds in US history. Though none of the removed officers are named in the welfare fraud investigation. However, Omar was under fire for sponsoring the MEALS Act 2020, which temporarily eased rules on how school meal programs operated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ilhan Omar’s reported $30 million net worth rise, linked to husband Tim Mynett’s ventures, has drawn scrutiny amid Minnesota welfare fraud debates.

Omar's source of wealth The majority of Omar's wealth comes from her husband, Tim Mynett's business. Ilhan Omar and the Minnesota welfare fraud The venture capital firm has reportedly removed names and biographies of at least nine Rose Lake Capital officers, including former Obama officials. These resulted in loose oversight and were exploited by fraudsters in Minnesota. She also said that she does not regret sponsoring the bill and admitted that the COVID-era program was rushed without a proper guardrail. Amid the political war around Charlie Kirk's assassination, US President Donald Trump accused Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of marrying her brother to secure US citizenship. The baseless claim of the American president came after Omar grilled Republicans for attacking the left over Kirk's assassination. Who is Ilhan Omar, US Congresswoman who met Rahul Gandhi in Washington

US Representative Ilhan Omar clinched the Democratic Party nomination for a fourth term on Tuesday (Aug 13), in a victory for progressives after losses in party primaries by two fellow members of the group nicknamed "The Squad."

Omar defeated former Minneapolis city council member Don Samuels in Minnesota's 5th District Democratic primary.

With 216 of 217 precincts reporting results, Omar was leading Samuels 56.2 per cent-42.9 per cent, according to Minnesota Secretary of State tallies.

At the end of a spirited campaign, Samuels acknowledged Omar's victory in a telephone interview, but said the results showed "there are still people who are feeling left out of the congresswoman's leadership."

Omar's robust campaign fundraising likely played a significant role in her victory.

She collected $6.8 million since the 2022 election, more than double the typical House member's reelection campaign and well over Samuels' $1.4 million, according to federal campaign disclosures.

"Because Omar had a tough primary last cycle (the 2022 election), she was prepared this time around with a strong ground game and excellent fundraising numbers that far outpaced Samuels," said Ryan Dawkins, a political science professor at Minnesota's Carleton College.

The Minnesota lawmaker, one of four progressive women whose 2018 election created The Squad, is expected to easily win the Nov. 5 election. Control of Congress will be up for grabs as Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump seek the presidency.

Fellow Squad members Representatives Jamaal Bowman of New York and Cori Bush of Missouri lost their party primaries over the past few months, facing opponents who had won substantial support from the pro-Israel fundraising group AIPAC.

Bowman, Bush and Omar had all expressed opposition to President Joe Biden's support for Israel in its war against Hamas militants in Gaza, but AIPAC as of mid-July had given just $25 to Samuels' campaign, according to data collected by Open Secrets. Bowman and Bush's losses will whittle away The Squad's ranks from its peak of nine members.

They also reflect a Democratic Party that has backed away from some of its furthest-left causes, like calls for providing government-backed healthcare for all Americans or talk of defunding police, which came to the fore during the 2020 Democratic presidential primary before Biden secured the nomination.

The absence of a significant 2024 Democratic primary before Biden ended his candidacy last month, passing the torch to Harris, meant that further-left candidates such as independent Senator Bernie Sanders did not drive the debate.

"I understood going into this election cycle that the progressive movement was going to be burdened because of the absence of somebody carrying the banner on the centre stage of American politics," said Alan Minsky, executive director of Progressive Democrats of America.

Nevertheless, he argued that progressive priorities, such as making prescription drugs and childcare more affordable still resonate with voters.

Omar and some fellow Squad members voted against some Biden priorities including the $1 trillion infrastructure bill signed into law in 2021. They mainly objected because it did not move in tandem with a bill to expand social programs, including childcare, as had been promised.

Unlike the Republican House Freedom Caucus, whose roughly three dozen members have repeatedly blocked their own party's priorities, members of The Squad have generally voted in step with fellow Democrats on legislation.

Omar, who arrived in the United States as a refugee from Somalia, describes her politics as "visionary, bold and loud" and says she has delivered millions of dollars in federal funds for community development in her district.

She argued she has paid close attention to her district's large immigrant population - including Somalis - in part by probing whether large banks discriminate against Muslim Americans.

She has faced criticism for antisemitic remarks, with House Republicans in 2023 voting to remove her from the Foreign Affairs Committee over a 2019 social media post suggesting that Israel's supporters were motivated by money rather than principle. Omar has apologized for that post.

Jamaica-born Samuels, a former toy developer and leader of a non-profit organization, had positioned himself as a pragmatic alternative, saying he agreed with many of Omar's policy stances, but not what he called her divisive governing style.

Controversial Democrat leader Ilhan Omar wins primary in Minnesota

US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's controversial visit to Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in 2022 was sponsored by the Pakistani government, annual House financial disclosure shows. Omar, a prominent figure within the Democratic Party and known for her marked anti-India stance on various issues, visited Pakistan in April last year. The disclosure shows the Pakistani government funded the visit from 18-24 April, which included lodging and food.

During her visit, Omar engaged in discussions with then-Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar. The talks centred around topics such as the Kashmir conflict and the Israel-Palestine issue. Omar also met with Imran Khan and visited Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, a move that was criticised by India's Ministry of External Affairs. Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for the Ministry, condemned Omar's actions, stating, "Violating our territorial integrity and sovereignty in its pursuit makes it ours. This visit is condemnable."

Omar's acceptance of the Pakistani government's sponsorship raises concerns about her objectivity, particularly due to her subsequent anti-India comments and actions. While US congresspersons are permitted to accept travel funding from foreign governments under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act (MECEA), they are required to disclose such sponsorship in their annual financial disclosure statements. She is a member of the Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party, an affiliate of US President Biden's Democratic Party.

This year, Omar announced her decision not to attend a joint address by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US Congress. Instead, she held a briefing with human rights groups on "record of repression" in India. Further, Omar introduced a resolution condemning human rights violations in India and violation of international religious freedom, as well as human rights violations in Punjab.

This isn't the first instance where Omar's foreign trips have stirred controversy. In November of the same year, she visited Qatar, with the Qatari government funding her travel. The Congresswoman's history of contentious statements has not gone unnoticed.

Her decision to boycott Israeli President Issac Herzog's speech and her marked anti-Israel stance has contributed to her reputation as a controversial figure. Omar's controversial remarks, widely criticised as antisemitic, led to her removal from the powerful US Foreign Affairs Committee. As the first Somali American and the first naturalised citizen of African birth in the United States Congress, she also holds the distinction of being one of the first two Muslim women, along with Rashida Tlaib, to serve in Congress.

US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's controversial visit to PoK was sponsored by Pakistan

Minnesota Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar is in trouble again. The congresswoman, as per Fox News, embroiled in an ethics complaint. The politician has been accused of alleged abuse of government resources. As per the report, the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) has filed a complaint with the House Office of Congressional Ethics. The organisation is calling for an immediate investigation into whether Omar violated house rules and abused official resources for political use from her TikTok account.

The complaint as per Fox News revolves around the congresswoman's use of Chinese-owned TikTok, which has recently come under the scanner for its alleged spying activities.

Following concern over TikTok's alleged nefarious activities, FBI director Christopher Wray had claimed that the Chinese government could use TikTok for "data operations". Subsequently, the short video format application's use was banned by the House of Representatives on official devices.

However, as per the complaint, "in spite of this, Rep. Omar has a TikTok account that she is clearly using for both official House and political purposes."

The watchdog in its complaint writes "the biography portion of the account describes her as a 'Congresswoman for #MN05.' She has posted overtly political posts, including a video of her urging viewers to support Democrat candidates, a message to Democrats volunteering for campaigns, and several videos of her campaigning and attending campaign events."

Congress members are barred from using official resources for campaigning purposes, however as per the complaint along with the political content, Omar "also made posts that used official government resources, including C-SPAN footage from the House floor, what appears to be a cell phone video recorded on the House floor, and an interview from what appears to be her House office."

Another TikTok video allegedly has Omar recording inside "what appears to be her congressional office." This, as per FACT, is in violation of the prohibition of filming in government offices for a campaign or political purposes and the ban on posting political videos on an official social media account.

The watchdog alleges that since Omar identifies the account as that of a Congresswoman and uses official government content, her account is technically an official social media account.

"These violations are disturbing, and clearly not how members are supposed to be using official resources," said Kendra Arnold, FACT's executive director, while speaking to Fox News Digital.

"The law is abundantly clear, and her account and the content posted speak for themselves. These rules are to protect the time, resources and integrity of official proceedings for those in elected office," she added.

Republicans, who now hold the majority in the House after the midterm elections in November, removed Democrat Ilhan Omar from the US House Foreign Affairs Committee over her anti-Semitic comments.

This came in a Thursday vote on the resolution to remove her from the committee seat over her controversial remarks about Israel. Republicans had been vying to make a move against Omar since 2021. The House voted on the resolution to remove Omar with 218 to 211.

Her tweets and comments in 2019 were critical of pro-Israel politicians and she also drew comparisons between US and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban. Omar at the time apologised for her remarks where she said that Jewish money was behind Washington's support of Israel. Her comments sparked a widespread condemnation and allegations that she is anti-semitic.

Ahead of the vote to oust her from the Foreign Affairs Committee, Omar said, "I will continue to speak for the families who are seeking justice around the world— whether they are displaced in refugee camps or hiding under their bed somewhere like I was. I didn’t come to Congress to be silent. I came to Congress to be their voice."

The newly-elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said, "I'm not saying she can't have committees." "But to sit on Foreign Affairs, I worry about … what the rest of the world looks at, every single word that is said there. I'm worried about predetermining what she believes in that situation. She admitted herself, she didn't even know referring to financial money, dollars, was a trope for those who happen to be Jewish," McCarthy added.

Democrat Ilhan Omar ousted from House Foreign Affairs Committee for her anti-Semitic comments

Ilhan Omar, the Democratic Congresswoman from Minnesota who is known for her pro-Pakistan stance and bias against India, has introduced a resolution in the US House of Representatives condemning India for the alleged human rights violations, specifically those targeting Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Dalits, Adivasis and “other religious and cultural minorities”.

The resolution, co-sponsored by Congresswomen Rashida Talib and Juan Vargas, urges the US Secretary of State to designate India as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ under the International Religious Freedom, according to the press release by her office. Comoros, Cuba, Nicaragua and Russia are on the list.

The resolution urges the Biden administration to implement the recommendations of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom which has called for designating India as a country of particular concern for three consecutive years.

Introduced in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, the resolution has been sent to the House Foreign Affairs Committee for necessary action.

During several Congressional hearings related to India, Omar has repeatedly shown her bias against India but has never raised her voice against Pakistan for gross human rights violations.

Omar, a Somali-American, was recently criticised by India after she visited Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) last April.

India had said that her travel to the region violated the country's sovereignty and it reflected her "narrow-minded" politics.

"If such a politician wishes to practice her narrow-minded politics at home, that may be her business. But violating our territorial integrity and sovereignty in its pursuit makes it ours. This visit is condemnable," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said.

Ilhan Omar-Imran Khan meet: US lawmaker visits ex-Pakistan PM despite his America-bashing

US lawmaker Ilhan Omar has introduced a bill seeking US sanctions against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The bill was introduced in the wake of a US intelligence report that implicated the prince, known as MBS, which had alleged that he had approved the operation that led to the death of the dissident journalist in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2018.

The declassified report was released last Friday by Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Khashoggi was a Saudi citizen and resident of the US.

"This is a test of our humanity," Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, said in a statement on the bill.

However, the Democratic US President Joe Biden and the State Department are not keen to sanction the Saudi leadership. State Department spokesman Ned Price had said that Washington is working to "recalibrate," and not "rupture", bilateral ties.

Saudi Arabia also said that relations with the US will not be hurt by the Biden administration’s release of the intelligence report, UK daily the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

Prince Khalid bin Bandar, the Saudi ambassador to London, told the British paper that the release of the report was “an internal issue for the United States”, adding that the kingdom was focused “on maintaining our relationship” with the US.

“I don’t see it as a setback at the moment. Look at what the administration has said publicly, they have said Saudi Arabia is a trusted ally, they are focused on defending and protecting Saudi Arabia. I don’t see the Americans turning away from us, or us turning away from America," FT quoted the Saudi envoy as saying.

Saudi had rejected the claims made in the US report, which did not unearth any new evidence directly linking Prince Mohammed to Khashoggi's killing.

Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, the kingdom's permanent representative to the United Nations, had said it “does not rise to anywhere close to proving the accusation beyond reasonable doubt”.

The prince courageously accepted moral responsibility, presented the accused to the justice system, and pledged to reform the intelligence organizations. Case closed! Let us all move forward to tackle the serious business of world issues",” he tweeted on Monday.
