After a lot of speculations, a total of nine games have been rescheduled, including the marquee face-off between India and Pakistan in Ahmedabad. The high-voltage clash between the two Asian giants will now take place a day before, i.e., on October 14 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. This has been done to manage security amid a prominent Indian festival.&nbsp;The original date, October 15, coincides with the commencement of Navaratri, the Hindu festival celebrated in most Northern states.&nbsp;

Among others, Pakistan versus England's date has also been altered. The clash between the 1992 finalists was set to take place on November 12 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The other notable changes are the games between Australia vs&nbsp;South Africa, New Zealand vs Bangladesh, and India vs the Netherlands to name a few. India will now lock horns with the Dutch line-up&nbsp;in what will be their last game in the round-robin stage, on November 12 coinciding with Diwali - one of the biggest Hindu festivals. There are, however, no changes to the semi-finals and final.

The 10-team 50-over showpiece event will kick off on October 05 between defending champions England and New Zealand. India will open their campaign versus Australia, in Chennai, on October 14. CWC '23 revised schedule: India vs Pakistan to take place on October 14, eight more fixtures rescheduled

New Zealand have&nbsp;recalled veteran left-arm fast bowler Trent Boult for the upcoming ODI series against England. This is a strong indication that Kiwis are willing to play Boult in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. The marquee quadrennial event is scheduled to be played from October 5 to November 19.

Apart from Boult, Kyle Jamieson has also made a comeback to the side. Both the players had last played in 50-over games in September and April 2022, respectively. Jamieson last played for New Zealand in February this year and will be seen in action during the upcoming T20Is against UAE next week.

As for Boult, the seasoned cricketer has been in the limelight for various franchise-based T20 leagues around the world. He took 13 wickets in 10 games for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Boult became best known for taking wickets in the first over itself during the cash-rich league's last edition.

"He's been working extremely hard on his rehabilitation following back surgery, and we're looking forward to seeing him back playing on the international stage.

India's latest batting sensation Tilak Varma has made heads turn with two crucial knocks in his first two T20I matches during the ongoing series against West Indies. India's veteran spinner Ravi Ashwin thinks that Varma could be a backup for Men in Blue at the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. Ashwin, speaking on his YouTube channel, also compared Varma's batting, especially the pull shot, to Aussies.

“The emergence of Tilak Varma has made everyone take notice of him. He looked in imperious touch even on that slow pitch in 1st T20I. His batting style is very unlike for an Indian making his international debut. His game resembles a lot like Rohit Sharma. He sweats on the pull shot. Generally, India batters won’t set up to play the pull shot. It is something they develop later. But his game looks like he has a natural pull shot and sends the ball outside the rope like an Aussie batter,” Ashwin said.

And look at the off-spinners from all the top teams. Australia have Ashton Agar. England have Moeen Ali and a leggie in Adil Rashid. So most teams don’t have a finger spinner to challenge the left-handed batters. That is why the emergence of Tilak is crucial,” he added.

With less than 60 days to go for the World Cup and a cloud of uncertainty over players, namely Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, Varma surely has emerged as a contender for the backup spot. 'Despite money and power, we've become...': Former India pacer lashes out at Rohit Sharma & Co.

In a major development, the&nbsp;prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club's World Cricket Committee (WCC) has recommended the International Cricket Council (ICC) to 'substantially reduce' the bilateral men's ODIs following the conclusion of the 2027 World Cup.&nbsp;The committee has proposed the inclination towards bilateral ODIs only when they are within one year before every edition of the World Cup.

Over the years, a lot of questions have been raised about the plethora of bilateral ODI series being played across the globe. As not many of them draw much attention, the MCC feels there is a need to bring down the number of bilateral ODIs as it&nbsp;would&nbsp;mainly help in providing a much-needed&nbsp;space in the international cricketing calendar. The hectic international schedule has been the talk of the town for quite some time.

With Tests being prioritised by many current cricketers, along with the addition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) and the ever-increasing demand for T20Is, the onus has fallen on the ODI format; with several questioning its existence. In the recent past, many have questioned what exactly the format adds to an already-packed international calendar.

In this regard, the 13-member committee, led by former England captain Mike Gatting, is hopeful that "scarcity of ODI cricket would increase the quality&nbsp;achieved by removing bilateral ODIs, other than in the one year preceding each World Cup. This would, as a consequence, also create much-needed space in the global cricketing calendar."

<h2>'Test match financial audit'</h2>

Moreover, the MCC also raised concerns&nbsp;over the survival of Tests in nations outside the Big Three -- India, Australia and England. "The committee voiced particular concern for the survival of Test cricket in nations outside of India, Australia and England, with the associated impact brought about by a narrowing competition pool," mentioned the MCC release.

The committee has recommended that the ICC undertake a "Test match financial audit," which would, in turn, enable it to "identify nations in need of support in order to sustain a Test match programme," after which "this need could be&nbsp;subsequently addressed via a separate Test match fund, established to protect the sanctity of Test match cricket."

'Test match financial audit' Moreover, the MCC also raised concerns over the survival of Tests in nations outside the Big Three -- India, Australia and England. "The committee voiced particular concern for the survival of Test cricket in nations outside of India, Australia and England, with the associated impact brought about by a narrowing competition pool," mentioned the MCC release. Ehsaan Mazari, minister in charge of sports in Pakistan, has said that the country's cricket team won't be travelling to India for the upcoming ICC World Cup if India doesn't travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. Mazari said this in a conversation with news outlet The Indian Express. The statement by Mazari comes a day after Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif formed a high-profile committee to decide on the issue of Pak travelling to India for the World Cup.

“My personal opinion, since the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) comes under my ministry, is that if India demands to play their Asia Cup games at a neutral venue, we would also demand the same for our World Cup games in India,” said Mazari.

The World Cup is scheduled to be played in India from October 5 to November 19. Pakistan and India, however, are at loggerheads ever since India denied travelling to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup. Mazari, in his conversation, also spoke about the mandate of the committee formed by the Pak PM and said that PM Sharif will take the final decision.

“The committee will be headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and I am among the 11 ministers who are part of it. We will discuss the issue and give our recommendations to the PM, who is also the patron-in-chief of PCB. The PM will take the final decision,” said Mazari.

India, notably, has said it won't be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and since then, many developments have taken place. The latest is Pakistan reportedly agreeing to share the hosting with Sri Lanka in a hybrid model. After the first four games of the Asia Cup, the rest are expected to be played in Sri Lanka, which includes all the games of the Indian side and the final as well. India has cited security concerns to not travel to Pakistan and Mazari wasn't particularly pleased with it.

“India brings sports into politics. I don’t understand why the Indian government doesn’t want to send their cricket team here. Some time back a huge baseball contingent from India was in Islamabad to play. There was also the bridge team that had travelled to Pakistan. There were around 60-plus people, I was the chief guest of the event. They won here and left. Pakistan’s football, hockey and chess teams also travel to India,” he said.

One of the main reasons for the West Indies' failures was their sloppy fielding. After the Scotland loss, Hope said, "The fielding is an attitude according to me, catches will be dropped and misfields will happen, that's part of the game and I feel that we did not give 100% effort every time, we did it in patches." Meanwhile, head coach Daren Sammy remained critical of his side's poor fielding efforts from the start of the tournament. Not the one to mince his words, Sammy labelled his side as the "worst fielding team".&nbsp; In their game versus Zimbabwe, Hope &amp; Co. dropped as many as five catches. Unacceptable!

Shamarh Brooks' illness along with&nbsp;Yannick Cariah's injury added to West Indies' woes. They were forced to tinker with their team combination and strategies. Cariah's absence meant they were without their only leg-spinner and couldn't capitalise on his pre-tournament form.

Some of West Indies' tactics made little sense to many. For example, Hope's decision to resort to Jason Holder in the Super Over versus Netherlands made heads turn. Holder's match figures were a decent 10-0-59-0. However, he has often been taken to the cleaners in the death overs. As a result, Dutchman&nbsp;Logan van Beek slammed him for 30 runs as the two-time winners lost the game.

Most importantly, the preparations in the run-up to the qualifiers, in Zimbabwe, were never up to the mark.&nbsp;As many as six out of&nbsp;the 15 that travelled to Zimbabwe - Kyle Mayers, Holder, Powell, Alzarri Joseph, Shepherd and Akeal Hosein - were not part of the Windies' series versus hosts UAE ahead of the qualifiers. Thus, it also meant that they interacted with their newly-appointed coach Sammy for the first time during the ICC tournament.&nbsp;

Moreover, West Indies' last bilateral ODI series win versus the current top seven teams -- notably India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, and England -- came way back in 2014. Their inability to be calculative with the bat, lack of match-winning spinners and dwindling fielding standards have forced them to fall as low as they have. Thus, the writing was on the wall for a long time. 2023 simply became the year where they made it official.&nbsp;

It is to be noted that West Indies have failed to make any mark in ICC events since their T20 World Cup 2016 triumph in India. In 2017, they could not participate in the Champions Trophy in England and Wales. In 2019, they won only two out of nine games in the ODI World Cup. Slowly and steadily, the likes of Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh, Richards, Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes were replaced by Lara, Gayle, Pollard, etc. as West Indies remained relevant in white-ball format; although becoming a T20I specialist team from a once-dominant ODI force. Sadly, nothing is clicking for them at present. Surely, West Indies cricket is at its lowest and their miraculous downfall has left cricket lovers in disbelief of their overwhelming success in the past, especially in ODIs. Most importantly, the preparations in the run-up to the qualifiers, in Zimbabwe, were never up to the mark. As many as six out of the 15 that travelled to Zimbabwe - Kyle Mayers, Holder, Powell, Alzarri Joseph, Shepherd and Akeal Hosein - were not part of the Windies' series versus hosts UAE ahead of the qualifiers. Thus, it also meant that they interacted with their newly-appointed coach Sammy for the first time during the ICC tournament. Moreover, West Indies' last bilateral ODI series win versus the current top seven teams -- notably India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, Bangladesh, South Africa, and England -- came way back in 2014. Their inability to be calculative with the bat, lack of match-winning spinners and dwindling fielding standards have forced them to fall as low as they have. Pakistan's participation in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is still under the cloud. When the ICC, after much delay, announced the official schedule on June 27, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had said that their participation depends on government clearance. The Pakistani board, however, has written a letter to their government too seek the permission to play in India, reported ESPNCricinfo.

In a letter addressed to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the PCB asked for advice on the upcoming travel to India required for the ODI World Cup 2023.&nbsp;

"Soon after the World Cup schedule was announced last Tuesday, we wrote to our Patron, Honourable Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, through the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry, copying the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior, requesting clearance to participate in the World Cup," a PCB official told ESPNcricinfo.

Pakistan will play their nine games at five venues: Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai Kolkata and Ahmedabad.&nbsp;If qualified for the semifinals, Pakistan will play in Kolkata on November 16 in Kolkata. India will play in Mumbai if qualified for semis unless they play against Pakistan, in which case they'll play in Kolkata, reported ICC at time of announcement of schedule.

Pakistan's tie against India - one of the marquee world cup matches - will be played in Ahmedabad on October 15.

"To be honest, it's not one thing [I can] put my finger on. We definitely need to look at all the areas," Hope said to Ian Bishop at a post-match ceremony in reply to West Indies' efforts. "Certainly, I felt we let ourselves down here in the entire tournament. But yeah, we need to look at the way we start our innings [and] definitely the fielding."

Hope agreed that their preparation had to be better and they can't expect to be a great team overnight.

"It starts from the foundation. Preparation needs to be better. That's from back home," Hope added. "So, yeah, it starts from there. We can't just expect to wake up one morning and be a great team. There's a lot of things that we need to focus on. And yeah, we need to control (what) we can control. Right now, we are here playing cricket, and we need to make sure we give our all to the West Indian fans."

West Indies fielding has been poor throughout the qualifiers and the West Indian skipper profoundly admitted that, saying the team didn't give their 100 per cent&nbsp;every single time.

Talking about the match against Scotland, Hope said that the toss was crucial but that his team needs to find ways and get better.

"We knew the conditions were definitely in the bowlers' favour; the toss is really crucial here - we see every single captain [that] wins the toss elects to field first," Hope said. "So we need to find ways to negate that early-morning movement. [But] again, we can't really look at the past, we need to look at ways to move forward and get better."

West Indies now have two more games left, against Sri Lanka and Oman, and Hope wants to finish the tournament positively.

Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana took four wickets for 25 runs and became the Man of the Match for his performance. Apart from him, Dilshan Madushanka took three wickets, Matheesha Pathirana took two and skipper Dasun Shanaka chipped in with one.

Chasing 166 was never a big task for Sri Lanka as Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne added 103 runs inside 20 overs. Nissanka went on to score his century and remained not out on 101 while Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis scored 30 and 25, respectively.

Sri Lanka won the game by nine wickets with almost 17 overs to spare. Sri Lanka skipper Shanaka was all praise for his team after securing the World Cup spot and said that they want to play 'as hardest as they can.'

"To be honest, these bunch of players, they have got their own skill, and they utilised the conditions really well over here. We stick to our basics whatever the condition, whatever the situation is. We want to play the hardest as much as we can. That is what's important," said Shanaka at the post-match presentation.

Losing captain Craig Ervine, meanwhile, lamented the early wickets and Theekshana's middle overs' choke for the loss.

"Those first three wickets put us on the back foot. I think that the partnership between Raza and Williams got us slowly back into the game, and then Theekshana came on...unfortunately, we couldn't recover from that collapse in the middle order," said Ervine after the match.

World Cup Qualifiers: Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe by 9 wickets to secure World Cup spot

The ICC released the full schedule of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (June 27). The schedule was revealed only 100 days prior to the tournament opener, which is set to take place on October 05. As per reports, a reason for the delay was due to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as it raised concerns over playing at certain venues. For instance, it was reported that the Pakistani board wanted the venues for their games versus Afghanistan (in Chennai) and Australia (in Bengaluru) to be swapped and also objected to playing against India in Ahmedabad&nbsp;on October 15.

Nonetheless, the final schedule saw none of PCB's reported requests being taken into account. After the schedule was out, PCB made it clear that they are yet to get clearance from their government to play the ODI World Cup in India and they will inform the ICC once they get the nod. In this regard, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali reacted to all the developments and slammed the board for asking for venue changes. In addition, he feels that Pakistan should stick to the venues offered -- as it can work to their advantage -- and are confident of the Men in Green's participation in the mega event.

"I am hearing on news channels and YouTube that Pakistan may not be willing to play their matches in Ahmedabad and one more venue. Why not? ICC's schedule for the World Cup is a huge advantage for Pakistan. If 1,25,000 come to attend the match in Ahmedabad, the pressure is on India, and not Pakistan. If India was to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan, then the pressure would have been on Pakistan.

"I don't know why people can't understand this simple thing. And Afghanistan is a weak team - yes, they have good spinners - but wherever the schedule has been finalised, just play. This is nonsense. I keep hearing that Pakistan may not get the permission. Of course, they will. Boss, it's not some local tournament. It's a bloody World Cup," Basit said on his Youtube channel.&nbsp;

After the schedule was out, former cricketers and experts opined on every team's chances and Kris Srikkanth, part of Kapil Dev-led India's 1983 ODI World Cup win, made a big statement.

Srikkanth believes India will miss Rishabh Pant's services, who is unlikely to regain full fitness after a horrific car accident on December 30, 2022. "We don't know the real truth about Rishabh Pant. Because Rishabh Pant, if he was playing, I would have straightaway said that India are the real favourites for the World Cup. But I think obviously, Rishabh Pant's fitness is questionable. Nobody knows how fit will he be before the World Cup. I doubt it. Many people doubt if he will play the 2023 World Cup. Otherwise, the Rishabh Pant factor would have been very crucial," said Srikkanth while speaking to India Today.

However, Srikkanth was quick to add that Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue have enough firepower to go the distance in the showpiece event in India. "So I believe guys like KL Rahul (who is recovering from a thigh injury) should be back in the middle order. KL Rahul has been fantastic. We have Rohit Sharma opening with Shubman Gill. Then we have Virat Kohli, who has been fantastic in this format and he has been in form. I believe India has got the capabilities of winning the World Cup," said Srikkanth.

At present, Indian players such as Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah are recovering from their respective injuries. While Pant is very much out of contention, as India would certainly not risk playing him soon even if he recovers fully, Rahul, Iyer and Bumrah are expected to regain fitness just before the ODI WC. In such a scenario, India will be in a tough spot as the trio won't be having enough game time heading into the World Cup.

India will open their campaign versus Australia, face Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad, New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamshala, England on October 29 in Lucknow and South Africa on November 05 in Kolkata apart from also facing Afghanistan, Bangladesh and the other two teams from the qualifiers.

Defending champions England will open their campaign versus New Zealand whereas hosts India will face Australia, in Chennai, on October 08 in their opening encounter. After the schedule was out, former cricketers and experts opined on every team's chances and Kris Srikkanth, part of Kapil Dev-led India's 1983 ODI World Cup win, made a big statement. Srikkanth believes India will miss Rishabh Pant's services, who is unlikely to regain full fitness after a horrific car accident on December 30, 2022. "We don't know the real truth about Rishabh Pant. Because Rishabh Pant, if he was playing, I would have straightaway said that India are the real favourites for the World Cup. But I think obviously, Rishabh Pant's fitness is questionable. Nobody knows how fit will he be before the World Cup. I doubt it. Many people doubt if he will play the 2023 World Cup. Otherwise, the Rishabh Pant factor would have been very crucial," said Srikkanth while speaking to India Today. "So I believe guys like KL Rahul (who is recovering from a thigh injury) should be back in the middle order. KL Rahul has been fantastic. We have Rohit Sharma opening with Shubman Gill. Then we have Virat Kohli, who has been fantastic in this format and he has been in form. I believe India has got the capabilities of winning the World Cup," said Srikkanth. At present, Indian players such as Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah are recovering from their respective injuries. While Pant is very much out of contention, as India would certainly not risk playing him soon even if he recovers fully, Rahul, Iyer and Bumrah are expected to regain fitness just before the ODI WC. In such a scenario, India will be in a tough spot as the trio won't be having enough game time heading into the World Cup. India will open their campaign versus Australia, face Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad, New Zealand on October 22 in Dharamshala, England on October 29 in Lucknow and South Africa on November 05 in Kolkata apart from also facing Afghanistan, Bangladesh and the other two teams from the qualifiers. Sehwag said, "For me, the World Cup is the best moment. I have reached the final once, won it once and crashed out without qualifying. So the journey has been up and down."

If you score 500-600 runs in a bilateral series, no one will remember it. But if you contribute 300 odd runs in the World Cup or pick up 10 wickets and you win the crown, that will be remembered throughout your lifetime. Dhoni's six, Kapil Dev's 175, still gives us goosebumps. There is nothing bigger than the World Cup, it is the Olympics of Cricket," he opined.

"Because representing India in the Olympics is a big thing, but if you win a medal there, it is widely celebrated in the country. No one might know the athlete before they go to the Olympics, but once they come back after winning, the whole country applauds them. So when we won the World Cup, the fans were on the roads celebrating," Sehwag added.

Sehwag was part of MS Dhoni-led India's historic triumph in the 2011 ODI WC. Back then, India defeated the likes of Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland and Sri Lanka -- in the final -- to lift the coveted title. The former Indian opener returned with 380 runs, including a best of 175.

India will be eager to replicate their 2011 ODI WC success this time around as well. The semi-finals will take place in Mumbai and Kolkata whereas Ahmedabad will host the final on November 19.&nbsp;

The 50-over World Cup tournament will be hosted by India solely and will be played among 10 countries from October 5 to November 19, 2023.

While talking to ICC, former India skipper Virat Kohli said that playing at Wankhede will be the most exciting. For the unversed, it’s the same venue where MS Dhoni had hit the winning six and lifted the 2011 World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka. Virat Kohli played an important knock in the match as when he walked in to bat at number 4, veterans like Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag were dismissed. He stabilised the Indian innings by building a partnership of 83 runs with Gautam Gambhir.

Apart from its match against India, Pak had also asked for the change of venue against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. He returned with 578 runs in the previous World Cup, including two fifties and an equal number of hundreds (also winning the Player-of-the-Series award), and led the side to the final where they lost to England in the Super Over (on boundary count).&nbsp;

He will be desperate to regain fitness before the commencement of the 2023 ODI WC. In the draft schedule, the Black Caps are set to kick off the tournament by playing defending champions England in the first game in Ahmedabad on October 05.

<h2>Unprecedented delay in announcing schedule</h2>

Notably, never in the history of the marquee tournament has there been such delay in announcing the schedule. The same for the last two editions was announced one year in advance. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, on May 27, had said that the schedule would be announced during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final. ICC CEO Geoff Allardice too, on the first day of WTC Final, had said that the schedule would be announced 'anytime soon,' while speaking on BBC's Test Match Special. Nonetheless, the schedule seems all but certainty now with draft being out.&nbsp;

<h2>Pakistan set to play at five venues</h2>

Apart from their clash against India, Pakistan will face two qualifier teams on October 6 and 12 in Hyderabad before facing Australia in Bengaluru on October 20. Pakistan, who had earlier threatened to boycott over Asia Cup hosting, will then be facing Afghanistan and South Africa in Chennai on October 23 and 27, respectively. The final three matches of Asia Cup hosts are set to be played in Kolkata on October 31, Bengaluru on November 5 and Kolkata again on November 12 against Bangladesh, New Zealand and England, respectively.
