<p>Gill has now shifted his focus to India's upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, where they take on Australia on June 07&nbsp;at The Oval, London. He will hope to replicate his fine form in the marquee clash. In 2023, the 23-year-old has already scored a double ton in ODIs, a century in Tests and T20Is along with three in IPL 2023.</p>

With this win, CSK have equalled the record of Mumbai Indians with the most IPL titles in the competition's history.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“As fate would have it, I received a phone call from CSK captain MS Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming who invited me to be a part of the coaching staff. I had no doubt in my mind that this was the direction I wanted to take my new cricketing career. I’ve always had the vision in my mind of one day sharing what I can only describe as my God given talents as a cricketer to what it is right now - a coach for one of the best teams in IPL history,” Dwayne Bravo wrote. After a lengthy delay due to rain and wet outfield, the match resumed at 12:10 AM IST with a revised target; 171 in 15-over contest.&nbsp;Both Ruturaj and Devon Conway started off on a positive note, slamming the pacers while also attacking Rashid Khan in his first over.</p>

<p>Ruturaj fell for a 16-ball 26 before Conway followed suit (for a 25-ball 47) but struck some flawless boundaries prior to his fall. Noor Ahmad (2 for 17 in three&nbsp;overs) removed both the openers but Ajinkya Rahane announced his arrival with two sublime sixes.</p>

<p>The chase was on. While Dube struggled, Rahane got the boundaries to keep a check on the required run rate. His cameo, 13-ball 27, ended with Mohit Sharma outfoxing him with CSK in need of 54 off 25 balls. With Dube not connecting it well, he finally got going with two big sixes off Rashid and managed to keep CSK alive.&nbsp;</p>

IPL Final: Incredible scenes in commentary box as Ravindra Jadeja hits winning runs

<p>Gujarat Titans opening batsman Shubman Gill had a brilliant season in Indian Premier League (IPL) as he scored 890 runs in 16 matches he played in 2023 at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80. His performance was 160-run best than Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis, who was a distant second in the season with 730 runs in 14 matches.</p>

<p>Even if Faf (14) had played as many matches as Gill (16) played, he wouldn't have surpassed the GT opener. The reasoning behind this is - Faf averaged 56 in the season and had he played two more matches to equal Gill's tally, he would have ended up with 842 runs or 850 - 40 less than what Gill scored this season.</p>

<p>The GT batter crossed 50 seven times in 2023 and converted three of them into hundreds. He also crossed Rajasthan Royals batter Jos Buttler's record of 863 runs which the Englishman had set in the 2022 season. One might say that Gill got such numbers as he opens the batting, thus getting the best chance to play as many overs as possible from the available 20. And this is true and it isn't unfair or anything but just how the games work that openers get the best chance to score runs.</p>

<p>Now let's talk about Virat Kohli.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The RCB batter has been in the IPL since its inception in 2008. He has scored the most runs, most fifties and most hundreds in a season, apart from a plethora of other records. And his best season came in 2016 when he eclipsed everyone like the Sun and no player since 2016 has been able to come out of the shadow cast by him that season.</p>

<p>Kohli played 16 matches that season and scored 973 runs at an average of 81 and a strike rate of 152. Kohli went past fifty in 11 matches and converted four of them into a century - the most in a single IPL season. His team, however, couldn't win the trophy and the wait still continues. In fact, only twice has been the Orange Cap holder from the title-winning team - in 2014 when Robin Uthappa scored the most runs for eventual winner KKR and in 2021 when Ruturaj Gaikwad did the same for Chennai Super Kings.</p>

<p><em>The match can go full length (20 overs each side) even with a start time of 9:35 PM India time - which is just above two hours of original start time of 7:30 PM.</em></p>

<p><em>The final would be a 19-over affair per side if it starts at 9:45 PM.</em></p>

<p><em>Furthermore, IPL 2023 Final would be 17-over game (each side) with a 10 PM start and 15-over game (each side) with a 10:30 PM.</em></p>

<p><em>The cut off time for a five-over contest is 12:06 AM, effective next day (30th May) but the rain has to stop by 11 PM to give ground staff time to prepare the field.</em></p>

<p><em>In the scenario of even a five-over contest not taking place, a Super Over shall be played to decide the winner and the field must get ready by 1:20 AM (May 30) for that.</em></p>

<p>In the worst case scenario of even the reserve day getting washed out, the team which had finished higher on the league table will crowned the winner. <p>Speaking to the reporters after a 62-run drubbing, Boucher said, "If you are losing out on your quality players, yes it's going to leave a hole. Not to put any blame on anyone, those things happen in sports, injuries happen in sports and you've got to deal with it."</p>

<p>The Protea, however, said that the replacement players did their best.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I thought that the guys that we brought in, they did their best in a situation where they probably weren't selected upfront," said the coach.</p>

<p>Boucher, nonetheless, seemed not pleased with the players getting injured repeatedly and said that if the issue continues than the team might have to look at other places.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Hopefully the guys can get over the injuries. If they can't, then we've got to look other places," he said. "There are so many things that we can talk about but for me to open up a can of worms now would be stupid," added Boucher.</p>

<p>"I think it's time to just sit back, reflect a bit, take the emotion out of it and make some good, sound cricketing decisions once everything is calmed down and once we understand the future of certain individuals and where they are from a fitness perspective," opined the South African.</p>

<p>Gujarat, batting first after losing the toss, put up a mammoth 233-run score in 20 overs on the back of yet another Shubman Gill century. The right-hand opener made merry of a reprieve given to him while batting at 30 off 20 balls and went on to score 129 off 60.</p>

<p>During the chase, Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals and Ishan Kishan being replaced by a concussion sub due to an unwanted injury didn't help their cause either. Titans' Mohit Sharma then did the rest as he took a five-for and Mumbai folded for 171 in 18.2 overs.</p>

<p>Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Panyda said his team made basic errors despite being spot on with the ball and that's why they lost the first qualifier against Chennai Super Kings.</p>

<p>After electing to field first, GT restricted CSK to a modest 172 on a dry Chepauk pitch but kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually lost the game by 15 runs.</p>

<h2><strong>CSK at top of their game</strong></h2>

<p>Having set a target of 173 for GT, CSK looked in complete command of the contest as they dealt LSG early blows. GT lost Wriddhiman Saha (12) and Hardik Pandya (8) in the powerplay as Deepak Chahar and Maheesh Theekshana were spot-on with their approach with the ball. Despite this, Shubman Gill’s well-made 42 was the highlight of the GT innings but other players failed to produce big innings.</p>

<p>With GT batters failing to impress, it was CSK bowlers that rose to the occasion as four bowlers ended with two wickets each – Chahar, Theekshana, Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana. Tushar Deshpande ended with a wicket as well. Only five GT batters got in double figures as they were bowled out for 157 and were never in the contest.</p>

<h2><strong>What happened in the CSK innings?</strong></h2>

<p>Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma bagged two wickets each as Gujarat Titans restricted Chennai Super Kings to 172/7 in 20 overs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in the first qualifier match of the league. Ruturaj Gaikwad top scored for CSK scoring 60 from 44 balls.</p>

<p>Put into bat, Chennai Super Kings lost the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad with only five runs on the board. Darshan Nalkande got the wicket of Gaikwad but his celebration was short-lived as umpire called it a no ball. After that, Gaikwad and Devon Conway batted well and helped CSK put on 49 without the loss of any wicket in the first six overs of powerplay.</p>

After the win, CSK skipper Dhoni was asked about his future in the league and the wicketkeeper-batsman continues to be non-committal on the issue.</p>

<p>The question around Dhoni's participation in future IPLs has been asked throughout the season, with the veteran player having issues with his knees. Dhoni, at the post-match presentation, also&nbsp;agreed that IPL has taken a heavy toll on him.</p>

He has contained runs as well as accounted for wickets in crunch situations. Rashid has also groomed fellow countryman and Gujarat teammate Noor Ahmad, who ended the league stage with 13 wickets in ten games.</p>

IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag names Hardik Pandya-led GT's trump card ahead of Qualifier 1 vs CSK

<p>After a miserable run in IPL 2022, where they finished ninth, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) qualified for the playoffs in IPL 2023. They ended the league stage with 17 points -- eight wins from 14 games -- to finish at the second spot. In Qualifier 1, they will take on the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT), who once again dominated the league stage and topped the overall standings with ten victories from 14 matches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>GT and CSK met each other in the opening encounter of IPL 2023 where Gujarat won by five wickets in Ahmedabad. So far, both sides have faced each other thrice with Gujarat emerging on top on each occasion. Thus, Hardik Pandya &amp; Co. will have the edge but the game will be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Ahead of Qualifier 1, former CSK spinner Harbhajan Singh opined on the game and feels that Chennai will have advantage of playing at home but their performance has not been foolproof this year at the Chepauk.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To back Harbhajan's claims, Dhoni &amp; Co. have lost as many as three home games in IPL 2023 -- versus Rajasthan Royals (RR), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In the recent past, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has admitted that the team is still trying to figure out the conditions and pitches on offer on home soil.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bhajji was quoted as saying on Star Sports Live, "The contest between CSK and GT will be intense as both teams know how to win big games. CSK playing at home is a big advantage. They know the conditions well, but somewhere their performance at home hasn't been foolproof this year."</p>

IPL 2023: Wonder-boy Shubman Gill slams maiden hundred as Gujarat Titans secure playoffs qualification

<p>Gujarat Titans batsman Shubman Gill scored his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) ton in match 62 against struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad and broke a record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar.</p>

<p>Gill, who hit 58-ball 101 before getting dismissed, reached his fifty in just 22 balls with the help of nine boundaries. It is the fastest fifty ever in IPL by any player without hitting a six. The previous record was held by Sachin, who scored a fifty of 23 balls without any sixes in 2010 against erstwhile Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) while playing for Mumbai Indians.</p>

<p>Gill then went to hit four more fours and a six in his innings after reaching 50 as he notched up the first hundred ever by a Gujarat Titans batsman. Notably, nobody from the defending champions had scored a ton last season despite going all the way in the season.</p>
