After Hadash leader Mohammed Barakeh stepped down, Odeh took over leadership in 2015. That year, he played a key role in forming the Joint List, an alliance of major Arab parties, and led it to significant success in the Knesset elections. In 2021, he alleged that police assaulted him during a protest against an illegal Jewish settlement in East Jerusalem. Before entering parliament, Cassif made headlines for his fierce criticism of Israeli leaders—once calling then-Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked “neo-Nazi scum.” Though the Central Elections Committee initially barred him from running in the 2019 elections, the Supreme Court overturned the decision, allowing his election to the Knesset as Hadash-Ta’al secured around 4.5 per cent of the vote and six seats. Cassif has continued to challenge Israeli government policies, particularly regarding the occupation of Palestinian territories. Following the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, he described the Israeli government as “fascist” and accused it of ethnic cleansing and pogroms against Palestinians. These remarks led to a 45-day suspension from the Knesset, which he condemned as a blow to political freedom. In 2024, Cassif faced another six-month suspension for signing a petition urging the International Court of Justice to indict Israel and for labelling Palestinians fighting Israeli forces as “freedom fighters.” In July 2025, he was again suspended for two months, marking yet another clash between his political activism and parliamentary discipline.

US President Donald Trump has once again accused his predecessor, former US president Joe Biden, of secretly planting hundreds of agents in the insurrectionist crowds at the Jan 6, 2021, Capitol riot. On Truth Social, the Republican leader whose incendiary speech is believed to have led to the Capitol riots alleged that "BIDEN FBI PLACED 274 AGENTS INTO THE CROWD ON JANUARY 6". He added that this means that a "lot of very good people will be owed big apologies," while rallying his audience to "DO SOMETHING!!!".
Trump AGAIN claims Biden was behind the Jan 6 violence
In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “THE BIDEN FBI PLACED 274 AGENTS INTO THE CROWD ON JANUARY 6. If this is so, which it is, a lot of very good people will be owed big apologies. What a SCAM - DO SOMETHING!!! President DJT.”

This is not the first time Trump has claimed this. Just last month, he made a similar accusation, slammed the Jan 6 Capitol riot as a "hoax" and claimed that the "FBI had secretly placed, against all Rules, Regulations, Protocols, and Standards, 274 FBI Agents into the Crowd just prior to, and during, the January 6th Hoax". He claimed that the FBI agents were "probably acting as Agitators and Insurrectionists, but certainly not as 'Law Enforcement Officials'".Demanding information about the alleged FBI agents turned agitators' information at the time he had, in a similar fashion, claimed that "Many Great American Patriots were made to pay a very big price only for the love of their Country".
Jan 6 riots and Trump indictment
In August 2023, Trump was indicted on felony charges for working to overturn the results of the 2020 elections (which he lost to Biden) in the run-up to the violent riot by his supporters at the US Capitol. However, he escaped conviction as he was elected POTUS for a second term. Earlier this year, former Special Counsel Jack Smith, in a much-awaited report published just days before the beginning of the Republican's second term, insisted that the charges levelled against Trump by his team would have ended in conviction had he not returned to the White House. Who is María Corina Machado? The Venezuelan leader who snubbed Trump to win the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize

As the world awaits the announcement of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday (October 10), US President Donald J. Trump has once again become a focal point of speculation. Multiple nominations have been filed in his name this year, with proponents citing his administration’s role in brokering high-stakes agreements in the Middle East and the Caucasus. While Trump has long coveted the global recognition the prize confers, the Nobel Committee’s history of cautious selections raises questions about how realistic his chances truly are.
Trump's role in peace deals and ceasefires
Trump’s most cited diplomatic achievement remains the Abraham Accords of 2020, which normalised relations between Israel and several Arab countries— a landmark moment in Middle Eastern diplomacy. But more recent developments under his current term have revived the conversation. Besides this, his administration also helped broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after weeks of intense fighting in Gaza. The deal, which included a large-scale prisoner exchange and international monitoring, drew praise from European diplomats and global leaders for preventing a prolonged war. Trump also played a behind-the-scenes role in ending the Armenia–Azerbaijan border conflict, with US envoys mediating a peace framework in tandem with the European Union. In both cases, the White House framed these agreements as evidence of Trump’s unconventional but effective diplomacy — the kind of decisive, transactional approach that supporters argue has produced results where prolonged negotiations failed. Several foreign lawmakers and political figures, including Malta’s foreign minister and a Norwegian parliamentarian, publicly announced they had submitted Trump’s name for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Though the Nobel Committee does not publish its nomination list for 50 years, nominators often go public to build political momentum and shape the narrative around a candidate’s achievements. For Trump, who has repeatedly expressed frustration that he did not win the prize during his previous term, these announcements serve both a symbolic and strategic purpose.
What the Nobel Committee looks for?
Yet nominations are only the first step in a lengthy and highly confidential selection process. The Nobel Peace Prize is guided by Alfred Nobel’s will, which calls for honouring those who have done “the most or the best work for fraternity between countries, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” Over the years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has interpreted these criteria with caution, often favouring diplomats, activists, or organisations that have fostered sustained peace or humanitarian progress over time. Trump’s polarising global image and his deeply divisive domestic standing complicate the picture. While his supporters highlight his role in reshaping alliances and reducing direct US military entanglements, critics argue that his diplomatic moves are transactional, short-term, and lacking multilateral backing — elements the Nobel Committee traditionally values. Historically, the Committee has avoided awarding sitting leaders embroiled in intense political controversies, preferring to wait until their legacies can be judged in full. Another hurdle is timing. Nobel nominations must be submitted by January 31 each year. Some of Trump’s recent nominations came after that deadline, which means they might only count for the 2026 prize cycle. Even if his achievements are considered this year, he faces stiff competition. With 338 candidates nominated for the 2025 prize, Trump’s path is narrow. Nonetheless, the possibility cannot be dismissed entirely. If the Nobel Committee chooses to make a bold statement recognising unconventional diplomacy and concrete ceasefire deals, Trump could be a surprise pick. But if past patterns are any indication, the Committee is more likely to favour long-term peace builders over polarising political figures still in office. For now, Trump’s Nobel ambitions remain a blend of diplomatic milestones and political theater. US President Donald Trump’s diplomatic moves have revived Nobel Peace Prize talk recently, but history and politics may temper expectations

The Trump administration is preparing to introduce new rules that could make it significantly tougher for foreign nationals to qualify for the H-1B visa. The changes are expected to focus on tightening eligibility, scrutinising employers, and enforcing stricter regulations, particularly around third-party placements and working conditions. These adjustments are part of a broader effort to reform the H-1B visa program, ensuring it better serves US workers while maintaining its role in attracting high-skilled foreign talent. The new regulations could further limit the ability of foreign workers to be placed at client sites, an issue that has sparked controversy in the past. The Trump administration aims to enforce policies that align with the original intent of the H-1B program: to fill high-skilled jobs in the US that are not easily filled by American workers. However, the implications of these changes are still being debated, with some arguing that it could make it harder for employers to recruit and retain qualified workers.
Proposed Changes to H-1B Visa Regulations
The Trump administration’s proposed reforms to the H-1B visa program are set to bring significant changes to both employers and foreign nationals seeking long-term employment in the US. Among the key proposals are stricter eligibility criteria for visa recipients, a crackdown on companies that violate existing program rules, and enhanced scrutiny of third-party placements. These reforms aim to prevent abuse of the system and protect US workers’ job opportunities and wages. One major aspect of the reform is the potential restriction on H-1B holders working at customer sites, a controversial issue that was part of the previous administration’s regulatory push. Employers may find it more difficult to place workers at customer locations, which could lead to shorter visa approval periods and tighter restrictions on job roles. This could impact industries such as IT and consulting, where third-party placements are common.
Challenges and Legal Hurdles
While the Trump administration hopes to avoid the legal setbacks that occurred during his first term, the proposed changes could still face challenges in the courts. A similar rule attempted in 2020 was blocked by a judge, who argued that it violated the Administrative Procedure Act. The Trump government is working to ensure the new rule is legally sound, with an aim to implement it without facing similar opposition. These challenges highlight the ongoing debate over how the H-1B program should be structured to balance the needs of foreign workers, US employers, and American job seekers. As these regulations move forward, companies and foreign workers will need to stay informed about the evolving landscape of US immigration laws. The proposed changes, once finalised, could reshape the H-1B visa process for years to come, making it critical for stakeholders to adapt to the new rules as soon as they are announced.

Proposed Changes to H-1B Visa Regulations The Trump administration’s proposed reforms to the H-1B visa program are set to bring significant changes to both employers and foreign nationals seeking long-term employment in the US. Challenges and Legal Hurdles While the Trump administration hopes to avoid the legal setbacks that occurred during his first term, the proposed changes could still face challenges in the courts.

Trump's administration is seeking to tighten H-1B visa rules, including limiting third-party placements and increasing oversight, potentially making it harder to qualify

Will Donald Trump win Nobel Peace Prize or will it go to surprise candidate? Here's what experts suggest

US President Donald Trump has once again made a bold statement regarding his contributions on the global stage. He asserted that he has resolved more international conflicts than any other leader in history, including tensions between nuclear-armed countries and regional disputes. Specifically, Trump referenced his efforts in the India-Pakistan war earlier this year as a prime example of his conflict-resolution success. Speaking to reporters at the White House on Wednesday (October 8), Trump was asked about his chances of winning the Nobel Peace Prize this year. His response was characteristically self-assured, yet laced with a hint of skepticism. "I have no idea... Marco would tell you we settled seven wars. We're close to settling an eighth. I think we'll end up settling the Russia situation," he said, underscoring the scale of what he claims to be his diplomatic triumphs. Also Read: 'Everybody's liking me now': Trump speaks to Netanyahu after Hamas agrees for first phase of Gaza peace plan Trump’s remarks, however, are not new. The president has repeatedly said that he helped bring an end to multiple wars and geopolitical tensions during his time in office. His list of resolved conflicts, though, is somewhat vague. "I don’t think anybody in history has settled that many," Trump said confidently. Despite this, he added that he feels the Nobel Peace Prize may not be in his future, alluding to the possibility that the Norwegian Nobel Committee will find a reason to overlook him. "But perhaps they’ll find a reason not to give it to me," he quipped, seemingly acknowledging that, despite his diplomatic record, the prestigious award might elude him. Trump's self-assessment has drawn mixed reactions. Supporters argue that his direct approach to foreign policy, including brokering peace deals and facilitating dialogue between long-time adversaries, has been an underappreciated part of his presidency. Detractors, however, often point out the lack of concrete, long-lasting resolutions in many of the conflicts Trump mentions, questioning whether his interventions have truly led to lasting peace or merely temporary de-escalation. The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the most prestigious and highly scrutinised international honours, awarded annually to individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to peace. As the Nobel Prize announcements continue this week, with awards for medicine, physics, and chemistry already announced, all eyes will be on Friday’s announcement of the Peace Prize. Trump, despite his confident assertions, may find his name missing from the list of honourees—though he seems to expect that very outcome.

The Trump administration has ordered FBI employees in Washington, DC, and New York to search their offices for any records tied to the disappearance of aviator Amelia Earhart, reports citing law enforcement sources suggest. According to CNN, agents have received a high-priority message from leadership on Tuesday (Oct 7) marked “urgent,” directing them to search “any areas where papers or physical media records may be stored, to include both open or closed cases, for records responsive to Amelia Earhart.” The directive supposedly came directly from the Executive Office of the President. Employees have reportedly been given till Wednesday to respond. What's surprising is that this directive comes even as the federal government shutdown entered its seventh day. Also read | ‘She looked dead’: Rapist Husamettin Dogan’s appeal backfires as Gisele Pelicot’s ex-husband exposes chilling truth in court
The mysterious disappearance of Amelia Earhart
Earhart vanished in 1937 while attempting to become the first woman to fly around the world. Questions over US President Donald Trump’s health resurfaced Tuesday (Oct 7) after new photos showed his visibly swollen ankles during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House. The 79-year-old's glum ramblings about "being good" so he could get into heaven didn't help the matter.
Swollen ankles take up space in the spotlight AGAIN!
Images from the Oval Office appeared to show the 79-year-old president’s ankles bulging over the tops of his black dress shoes as he sat alongside Carney and Vice President JD Vance. The two leaders met to discuss trade relations, though the talks ended without a breakthrough. The swelling, which medical experts say is common among older adults, has been visible for several months. In July, the White House confirmed that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition in which weakened veins slow the return of blood to the heart, leading to fluid buildup in the legs. Also read |
'Healthier and stronger', but wrestling with the question of what happens once you die?
On Monday (Oct 6), during a press conference, he once again rambled on about the theological pondering thinkers have battled for ages: How to get into heaven?. In an ominous statement, the POTUS said, "You know, there’s no reason to be good," before adding, "I wanna be good because you wanna prove to God you’re good so you go to that next step, right?". His statement has once again raised questions about the real condition of his health.Trump, the oldest president ever inaugurated, has continued to brush off speculation about his fitness. Speaking to Navy personnel over the weekend, he said doctors had described him as a "healthier and stronger physical specimen" than former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.Still, observers have noted several public appearances where Trump appeared unsteady or unable to walk in a straight line. Photos have also shown what appeared to be bruising on his right hand, which he unsuccessfully tried to cover up by plastering on mismatched makeup. The White House has attempted to explain this as something caused by "vigorous handshaking" and the regular use of aspirin for cardiovascular prevention. Questions over US President Donald Trump’s health have flared up again after new photos from his Oval Office meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney showed his ankles visibly swollen. And his talk about being “good” to appease God isn't helping. All you need to know.

His statement has once again raised questions about the real condition of his health. Trump, the oldest president ever inaugurated, has continued to brush off speculation about his fitness. Speaking to Navy personnel over the weekend, he said doctors had described him as a "healthier and stronger physical specimen" than former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush. Still, observers have noted several public appearances where Trump appeared unsteady or unable to walk in a straight line. Photos have also shown what appeared to be bruising on his right hand, which he unsuccessfully tried to cover up by plastering on mismatched makeup. A Netflix documentary shows chimpanzee expert and conservationist Jane Goodall, who recently passed away, talking about which men she would love to send out of Earth and onto another planet, which "he’s sure he’s going to discover." In the documentary series titled Famous Last Words, Goodall revealed the names of these politicians in an interview in March. Goodall says she would love to put billionaire Elon Musk, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on "one of [Elon] Musk’s spaceships", and ship them off to another planet. Amid ongoing protests in cities like Portland, Oregon, President Donald Trump has increasingly discussed the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act. This law grants the president authority to deploy federal troops within the United States during times of civil unrest, but its use has sparked significant debate.
What is the Insurrection Act?
The Insurrection Act is a law passed in 1792 that allows the US President to deploy the military within the United States to address civil unrest, insurrection, or rebellion. The law gives the president the power to send federal troops to suppress violent protests or unrest, especially in cases where local authorities are unable to maintain order or enforce federal law. The Insurrection Act operates alongside the Posse Comitatus Act (1878), which generally restricts the use of military forces inside the US against its citizens. However, the Insurrection Act creates an exemption, granting the president special authority in situations that threaten public safety, federal authority, or national security.
Can the president invoke the Insurrection Act?
Yes, the president has the power to invoke the Insurrection Act, but the process can vary depending on the situation. Typically, the act is invoked when a state governor or state legislature requests federal assistance. This was the case in 1992 when California’s Governor Pete Wilson requested federal help to manage the violent Los Angeles riots. President George HW Bush then deployed federal troops to restore order. However, the Insurrection Act also allows the president to bypass state authorities if the situation becomes dire enough. For instance, if there is widespread “unlawful obstruction” or “rebellion” against federal authority, the President may invoke the act to send troops, even if state or local leaders oppose such intervention. In other words, the President has the discretion to deploy military forces without local consent if the law requires it. In recent remarks, Trump has suggested that he could invoke the Insurrection Act in response to ongoing protests in cities like Portland. Trump has described these protests as an “insurrection” and has vowed to restore order, even if that means bypassing local governments.
How does the Insurrection Act work?
The Insurrection Act authorises the president to call on the US military or National Guard to help enforce federal laws, maintain order, or suppress large-scale civil unrest. The law specifically comes into play when it is deemed impossible to enforce federal laws through the normal course of judicial proceedings. In essence, the president is granted emergency powers to use military forces when a crisis overwhelms local law enforcement and threatens public order. The use of troops is meant to restore stability and ensure that federal law is upheld, especially in cases where rebellion or violence undermines the functioning of government institutions.
Has the Insurrection Act been used before?
Yes, the Insurrection Act has been used on a few notable occasions, including during times of civil unrest or resistance to federal authority. One of the most famous instances occurred during the Civil Rights Movement. In 1957, President Dwight D Eisenhower invoked the Insurrection Act to send the 101st Airborne Division to Little Rock, Arkansas, to enforce the desegregation of public schools. This was in response to the state governor’s refusal to allow nine Black students to attend a previously all-white school. Eisenhower’s intervention was pivotal in ensuring the Supreme Court's ruling in Brown v. Board of Education was enforced.Similarly, President John F Kennedy used the Insurrection Act in 1962 to send federal marshals and troops to the University of Mississippi to enforce the desegregation of the school after violent resistance from local authorities and white supremacist groups. The most recent use of the Insurrection Act occurred in 1992, when President George H.W. Bush deployed federal forces to quell the Los Angeles riots following the acquittal of police officers involved in the beating of Rodney King. In this case, California's governor had requested federal help to restore order.
Trump’s consideration to use Insurrection Act amid protests
In 2020 and 2021, Donald Trump frequently referenced the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act to respond to protests and civil unrest, particularly those related to police violence and racial injustice. Protests erupted in cities across the United States following the death of George Floyd, and Trump characterized many of the demonstrations as "violent" or "insurrectionary."Trump has suggested that he could invoke the Insurrection Act to send federal troops into cities like Portland, where protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and police brutality had been ongoing. He described the protests as “violent” and pledged to restore order, claiming the law gave him the authority to deploy federal troops without local consent.
What are the criticisms of using the Insurrection Act?
While the Insurrection Act is a powerful tool that allows the President to restore order during civil unrest, its use is often highly controversial. Critics of Trump’s potential use of the law argue that sending federal troops into cities could exacerbate tensions, escalate violence, and violate the civil liberties of American citizens. There are concerns that invoking the Insurrection Act could infringe upon states’ rights by overriding local authority and using federal military forces to manage issues traditionally handled by state and local law enforcement. Furthermore, opponents argue that the use of federal troops could stoke further unrest, potentially leading to an erosion of public trust in law enforcement and the federal government.
Can the president deploy troops without the Insurrection Act?
In some cases, the president can deploy federal troops without invoking the Insurrection Act, but this typically occurs when the federal government has a direct interest in maintaining control over certain areas, such as protecting federal property or enforcing federal law. However, the Insurrection Act provides a legal framework for the president to take more decisive and broader action in the event of large-scale civil disturbances. It allows the president to call on military resources to address widespread unrest, something that may be deemed necessary when local authorities are overwhelmed or unwilling to cooperate.

US President Donald Trump's tariff treatment has now hit the trucks being imported into the country. Trump announced on Monday (Oct 6) that the medium and heavy-duty trucks will attract extra import duty from November 1. He had announced earlier that the tariff on trucks would start from October 1, but now the policy will come into effect from next month. Ever since Trump began his second term of presidency in January earlier this year, Trump has been bullish on imposing tariffs on the US trade partners as well as commodities imported to the country as his way of restoring balance in the US economy.
What did Trump say about the tariff on trucks?
The US President, on his Truth Social account, wrote: "Beginning November 1st, 2025, all medium and heavy-duty trucks coming into the United States from other countries will be tariffed at the rate of 25%. Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Thank you for your attention to this matter." The US mostly imports trucks from neighbouring Canada and Mexico with which it has a trade agreement in place already.

A medium truck weighs between 14,000-33,000 pounds while any truck above gross weight of 33,000 classifies as a heavy truck. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has ignited controversy after posting a video showing agents hauling away a detainee in Portland while blasting a song mocking the detainee. The clip, posted Sunday on X, shows a handcuffed person lying face down on a flatbed cart as officers roll them away. ICE captioned it, “PORTLAND — Refuse to walk? Trump says Israel has agreed to an initial Gaza withdrawal line as part of his ceasefire plan, calling it a step toward ending a “3,000-year catastrophe.” Hamas’ confirmation would lead to an immediate truce and hostage-prisoner exchange, with talks set to continue in Cairo on Monday.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday (Oct 4) said that Israel has agreed to an initial "withdrawal line" as part of his plan to end the Gaza war, adding that a ceasefire will come into effect once Hamas confirms the arrangement. Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote, "After negotiations, Israel has agreed to the initial withdrawal line, which we have shown to and shared with Hamas." He added that once Hamas confirms, the ceasefire will go into force "IMMEDIATELY". The POTUS also said that with this the world was getting closer to the "end of this 3,000 YEAR CATASTROPHE". Hostage-prisoner exchange soon “When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal, which will bring us close to the end of this 3,000 YEAR CATASTROPHE,” said Trump in his Truth Social post signing off in his signature style, “Thank you for your attention to this matter and, STAY TUNED!” Also read | US federal agent shoots woman in Chicago hours after court blocks Trump’s troop order Earlier in the day, White House Press Secretary Sarah Matthews reposted a video of Trump thanking regional partners for supporting his peace plan. A federal agent shot a motorist in Chicago on Saturday, just hours after a judge blocked President Donald Trump’s attempt to deploy military troops in Portland, Oregon. This happened amid an increasingly tense stand-off between Washington and Democratic-run cities. Both incidents come amid the Trump administration’s hardline law-and-order push, marked by mass deportation raids and heavily armed operations in cities such as Los Angeles and Washington. White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt was visibly triggered on Wednesday when a NYT reporter questioned Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner's involvement in the Middle East deals. New York Times reporter McCreesh asked Leavitt, “How did the White House decide that it is appropriate for Jared Kushner to be working on matters that involve Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, three countries that combined have given him more than $2.5 billion for his investment firm?”This angered Karoline Leavitt; she snapped, “I think it’s frankly despicable that you’re trying to suggest that it’s inappropriate for Jared Kushner."
