<p>Dear readers, the most generic movie of the year is here. <em>Yodha,</em> directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha is more predictable than the results of the upcoming general elections. It has Sidharth Malhotra leading the show, who gets a perfect platform to showcase the brawn and good looks in a patriotic film that wants peace on both sides of the border and blames the fundamentalists for making it 'business' out of terror. The hijack drama faces too much turbulence in the course of two hours&nbsp;and the landing of the story is equally bumpy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sidharth Malhotra plays Arun Katyal, a trained commando of a special task force called Yodha, which was formed by his late father (Ronit Roy in a cameo), who has a knack for not following orders. On one such mission, his impulsive decision to act quickly costs the nation the life of a treasured scientist. Arun's beloved Yodha task force gets dismantled and his marriage to his bureaucrat wife Priyamvada (Raashii Khanna) also hits rock bottom. Years later, Arun finds himself again on an aircraft that has been hijacked. But all isn't as clear as it should be. There's a helpful but mysterious air hostess (Disha Patani), a desi uncle, a curious trainee pilot, and a suspicious bearded man - all are suspects in Arun's eyes and before the plane heads towards its ultimate target in Islamabad - where India and Pakistan are holding peace talks - Arun has to clear his name, save the 200 passengers and the leaders of the two nations.&nbsp;<br />

Despite the multiple twists the writing is so predictable that you know how the story will pan out, which moment in the film will be used as a flashback later, which character will die, and who will go rogue. That's not ideal for a hijack thriller.&nbsp;<br />

When the writing fails to create thrills, the screenplay tosses the passengers and makes the plane go upside down just to create excitement.&nbsp;<br />

Sidharth Malhotra gets to flex his muscles and look angsty at regular intervals. Malhotra's character Arun Katyal is perhaps the only character in the film that has been written decently. Malhotra's Katyal is a breaker of rules but a brave soldier who would go to any length to save his country. It's not a role that requires a lot of acting and Malhotra delivers his part well. Unfortunately, writer Sagar Ambre does not invest much time in defining other characters, so they all seem very disconnected from Arun - even though they are all integral to his story. Some of the actors have nothing to do in the film except look at the screen wide-eyed in horror or shock.<br />
<br />
The look of bewilderment is constant in the film. At regular intervals, each actor displays the same shocked expression looking far into the space or the monitor. It's like the director duo had a standard rule for all the actors on board that plane.&nbsp;</p>

A poster of the film was released with the announcement. In the image, scars are visible on Suriya's face, making him look like a warrior. The first glimpse will be put out at 12:01 AM on Jul 23. <em>Kanguva</em> is directed by Siva. The movie stars Disha Patani in the lead. This is the first time the actress will work with Suriya. Devi Sri Prasad is the composer. Studio Green, in association with UV Creations, has produced <em>Kanguva</em>.</p>

Later, director Siva had announced its name would be Kanguva. It is being reported that the teaser of the film may also be released on Suriya’s birthday. Arjun Kapoor plays Gautam, a rich brat&nbsp;who does questionable activities because he has to win at everything. To win a woman's love and attention, he can fake a rape. To put his ex-girlfriend in place and make her regret dumping him, he can crash her wedding and break bottles on people's heads and to take revenge for a silly online prank, he can sleep with a woman and make her fall in love with him. Thank god, Gautam only exists in cinema, because in real life the man would have either been in jail or in some mental health therapy centre for being this strange.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What's the plot of the film?</strong><br />

Gautam and rising singer Aarvi (Tara Sutaria) have a strange on-again-off-again relationship. Aarvi goes missing at the beginning of the film and is presumed dead and the police suspect Gautam as the killer. During questioning, the police also speak to Bhairav (John Abraham) a taxi driver who dropped Aarvi off hours before she disappeared. Bhairav has a complicated relationship with Rasika (Disha Patani). While investigating officer (Shaad Randhawa) feels Gautam is the killer, ACP Razi (JD Chakravarthy) connects it to previous murders which have had a similar pattern. Is Gautam responsible for the killing of Aarvi or has Bhairav done the crime forms the rest of the story.&nbsp;<br />

Written by Suri and Aseem Arora, the film has plot twists that put Abbas-Mustam thrillers to shame. And they are not always the most logical ones. Things begin to get bizarre from the first hour itself. Why is Gautam the way he is? How does a taxi driver in India manage to go and shop at expensive places? Why doesn't anyone get hurt or break a limb despite being thrown from heights, pushed against glass windows and hung from moving trains? Why do the women in this universe always cheat the men? Why are the men always the jilted lovers? Why does this movie even exist?</p>

In 'Ek Villain Returns', the women are always using the men. To get fame, to satisfy their sexual needs, to satiate their psychotics behaviour. So excuse these men if they turn psycho, okay? Because it is ok to brutally kill women as they have been hurt by other women. They are the victims, not the women. 'Ek Villain Returns' in a way glorifies the aggression of jilted lovers. And hey we can't put the blame on cinema for glorifying abuse, right? Who even takes films seriously these days?<br />
<br />
Mohit Suri's films usually have soulful numbers and this one too has some beautiful numbers. Not all of them make sense in the film's narrative but hey we are not supposed to look for logic here, right?&nbsp;<br />
<br />
With terrible editing, child-like VFX and action sequences inspired by several Korean action films, 'Ek Villain Returns' feels like a bad early 2000 action film that was the norm in Bollywood two decades ago. The film is as ridiculous as the innumerable FIRs that are being lodged against Ranveer Singh for his viral photos.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Average performances with bad writing</strong><br />

The performances are nothing to write about. The men- John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor struggle to look evil and vulnerable at regular intervals. The women- Tara Sutaria and Disha Patani at least try to deliver their respective roles but the characters are not fleshed out and they can't do much to elevate the film.&nbsp;<br />

A sequel to 'Ek Villain', which was a middling affair, 'Ek Villain Returns' makes the original look better. It glorifies the angst of jilted one-sided love throughout the film and only gives a mild sermon on how the feeling of love can be enough to keep one afloat even if it is not reciprocated. But the sermon comes at the fag end of the story and by then the brain has become numb watching this bizarre story.&nbsp;<br />

To put his ex-girlfriend in place and make her regret dumping him, he can crash her wedding and break bottles on people's heads and to take revenge for a silly online prank, he can sleep with a woman and make her fall in love with him. Thank god, Gautam only exists in cinema, because in real life the man would have either been in jail or in some mental health therapy centre for being this strange. What's the plot of the film? Gautam and rising singer Aarvi (Tara Sutaria) have a strange on-again-off-again relationship. Aarvi goes missing at the beginning of the film and is presumed dead and the police suspect Gautam as the killer. During questioning, the police also speak to Bhairav (John Abraham) a taxi driver who dropped Aarvi off hours before she disappeared. Bhairav has a complicated relationship with Rasika (Disha Patani). While investigating officer (Shaad Randhawa) feels Gautam is the killer, ACP Razi (JD Chakravarthy) connects it to previous murders which have had a similar pattern. Is Gautam responsible for the killing of Aarvi or has Bhairav done the crime forms the rest of the story. Written by Suri and Aseem Arora, the film has plot twists that put Abbas-Mustam thrillers to shame. And they are not always the most logical ones. Things begin to get bizarre from the first hour itself. Why is Gautam the way he is? How does a taxi driver in India manage to go and shop at expensive places? Why doesn't anyone get hurt or break a limb despite being thrown from heights, pushed against glass windows and hung from moving trains? Why do the women in this universe always cheat the men? Why are the men always the jilted lovers? Why does this movie even exist? Mysoginist and illogical In 'Ek Villain Returns', the women are always using the men. To get fame, to satisfy their sexual needs, to satiate their psychotics behaviour. So excuse these men if they turn psycho, okay? Because it is ok to brutally kill women as they have been hurt by other women. They are the victims, not the women. 'Ek Villain Returns' in a way glorifies the aggression of jilted lovers. And hey we can't put the blame on cinema for glorifying abuse, right? Who even takes films seriously these days? Mohit Suri's films usually have soulful numbers and this one too has some beautiful numbers. Not all of them make sense in the film's narrative but hey we are not supposed to look for logic here, right? With terrible editing, child-like VFX and action sequences inspired by several Korean action films, 'Ek Villain Returns' feels like a bad early 2000 action film that was the norm in Bollywood two decades ago. The film is as ridiculous as the innumerable FIRs that are being lodged against Ranveer Singh for his viral photos. Average performances with bad writing The performances are nothing to write about. The men- John Abraham and Arjun Kapoor struggle to look evil and vulnerable at regular intervals. The women- Tara Sutaria and Disha Patani at least try to deliver their respective roles but the characters are not fleshed out and they can't do much to elevate the film. A sequel to 'Ek Villain', which was a middling affair, 'Ek Villain Returns' makes the original look better. It glorifies the angst of jilted one-sided love throughout the film and only gives a mild sermon on how the feeling of love can be enough to keep one afloat even if it is not reciprocated. But the sermon comes at the fag end of the story and by then the brain has become numb watching this bizarre story. Think twice before going for this film.

'Ek Villain Returns' movie review: As ridiculous as the FIRs against Ranveer Singh's viral photos

<p>To promote their upcoming film 'Ek Villain Returns', actors John Abraham, Disha Patani and Arjun Kapoor joined producers Ekta Kapoor and Bhushan Kumar at Inox cinema hall in Delhi on Monday. While interacting with the media, they opened up about the Mohit Suri directorial and also spoke about several other trending topics.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While talking about their process of playing morally grey characters in the film, John Abraham said, "Even my character in my first film 'Jism' had grey shades, then 'Zinda', 'New York' was a different kind of grey for me, then 'Taxi No. 9211'. So, I have done several such films. And, I think normal is boring. In this film, in particular, the characters have so many different shades. And, when&nbsp;I watched&nbsp;the film, I found it very interesting. And, I think the audience will enjoy it. Also, it's not just about being a villain, it's about their journey and how they faced problems that changed them or impacted them."</p>

<p>Adding to the same, Arjun Kapoor shared, "I have played a grey character even in my first film 'Ishaqzaade' but ya, in this film, my character wants to be dark and his ideology is that he can die but not lose. And, he is okay being a villain in people's lives. So, for me, it was the extreme version of grey and that's taking things to a whole new level for me."</p>

<p>At the press conference, <strong>Ekta Kapoor also slammed Youtuber Kamaal R. Khan</strong> for claiming that&nbsp;'Ek Villan Returns' is a remake of a Korean film. She denied KRK's claims and said that the movie is not a remake of any film and that she had to ask for the film's script for Rohit Shetty because he was already thinking of making the&nbsp;film. However, at Ekta's request, Rohit Shetty handed over the script to Ekta and Mohit Suri since it fits better with the 'Ek Villan' franchise.&nbsp;"I don’t know what Korean Mr KRK is watching. But he seems to know more than I know I do I think," Kapoor said.</p>

<p>The 49-year-old actor also commented on Akshay Kumar's recent comments on finding it hard to convince actors for doing an ensemble or two lead actors film. "I have loved my association with Arjun, with Varun (Dhawan, in Dishoom), with Abhishek (Bachchan, in Dhoom). With Akshay I have done 3 films, I love him to death. And I think he’s probably right to an extent. But I think there are places where you can work with two, or three actors, maybe you can’t make an Oceans 11, you can make an 'Oceans 3' or 'Oceans 4', you know what I’m saying? So I think we can make things happen, and the new generation, the younger lot is more willing, I’m assuming. So I don’t see that as an issue," John said.</p>
