Shreevats Goswami has opened up on the captaincy change in the franchise, saying the previous captain David Warner was was not happy after being deprived of the captaincy. Nonetheless, as per Shreevats Goswami, David Warner acknowledged the shift following a couple of days.

SunRisers Hyderabad went through unrest both on and off the field in the now-suspended IPL 2021. They won only one of the seven games played, and David Warner – who has been their foundation for a very long time at this point – was replaced by Kane Williamson as the skipper after the sixth match. The 34-year-old Aussie was even dropped for the tie against the Rajasthan Royals.

Shreevats Goswami saw every one of these advancements from lacking elbow room. He conceded that while this huge change didn't actually trouble the remainder of the SRH squad, it influenced David Warner however much it did the intense 'Orange Army' in the country. Goswami further added that Warner played the ideal 12th man during the Rajasthan Royals match in Delhi.

“It was officially announced to the team a day before the game. Again this was the management’s decision, we actually don’t have a say and we don’t worry about what’s going on, who’s getting dropped, and who’s not. While Goswami expressed he didn't detect such a conflict between the skipper and the management over dropping Manish Pandey, many trusts it was David Warner's remarks on that choice that prompted his omission. 'It might have affected David': Shreevats Goswami opened up on the leadership change in SRH

Aakash Chopra has said that Kane Williamson taking over as Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper from David Warner has not achieved a prompt change in fortunes for the franchise.

Sunrisers Hyderabad delegated Williamson as their skipper for the rest of IPL 2021 ahead of their match against the Rajasthan Royals. In any case, the move didn't yield the ideal outcomes as the Orange Army went down to Rajasthan Royals by 55 runs.

While assessing the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals clash, Aakash Chopra brought up that changing the skipper didn't bring any luck to the IPL 2016 champions.

"The sun has set for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their captain has changed but not their fortunes. They have won just one of their seven encounters. They changed the combination and played Nabi with Rashid," said Aakash Chopra.

The commentator said the fact that SRH got Mohammad Nabi as an all-rounder to the detriment of David Warner, he was not utilized successfully.

"But they didn't make him bowl at all and got very little batting as well because he came too low down. I mean it was as good as playing with three overseas players. Bhuvi was back but the form was missing for the other players," he Chopra.

Mohammad Nabi was given the ball just in the 15th over of the Rajasthan Royals innings and was taken for 21 runs around there. He was sent in to bat at No. 6, with the match nearly past Sunrisers Hyderabad's scope at that stage.

"I was a little surprised at Kane Williamson's bowling choices. He didn't give bowling to Nabi at all or gave just the one over, finished Rashid by the 11th over. I was slightly stunned," said Chopra.

"You had to finish the overs with Vijay Shankar at the end because the calculation had gone slightly wrong. You were waiting for a wicket to fall but that wicket did not fall," signed off Chopra.

The consolidated four overs bowled by Vijay Shankar and Mohammed Nabi for Sunrisers Hyderabad yielded 63 runs. The Rajasthan Royals batsmen pillaged 134 runs off the last nine overs, whenever they had seen off Rashid Khan's spell.

IPL 2021: 'Sunrisers Hyderabad captain has changed but not their fortunes': Aakash Chopra

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday continued their torrid run of form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as the franchise lost their match against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Kane Williamson replaced David Warner as the captain of SRH but it didn’t change the fortune of the side as they suffered a 55-run defeat to RR.

SRH dropped Warner from the playing XI but the batting line-up still failed to live up to the expectations. Kane Williamson was asked about whether Warner will be seen playing as a pure batsman in the upcoming matches in IPL 2021, to which the Kiwi said that they will have conversations around including him in the team while adding the Aussie is a world-class batsman.

Rajasthan Royals, riding on Jos Buttler’s maiden T20 century, posted a 220/3 in 20 overs as the Englishman hammered the highest score by a RR batsman in IPL. However, SRH were dull in their chase and could manage just 165/8 in 20 overs.

“A tough day. A very competitive total from RR. It was Jos' day and he was outstanding. With the bat, you do need to get a few things to go your way and when you're losing wickets it makes it all the harder to chase 220. We have had a lot of challenges over the last three weeks, but we need to make small adjustments and put in improved performances. Jos and Sanju were key, so we wanted Rashid to bowl as many deliveries as possible against them. It is a bit of character building for us, so we just need to swallow it and move ahead,” Williamson said in the post-match presentation on Star Sports.

“This game can change quickly and it is a game of fine lines. We just need to be clear of what we want to do each day. [On leaving the fifth bowler for the end] It wasn't the initial plan, but we wanted to use our resources and it was a decision we had to make. Those are the risks you need to take and not let the game just unfold. Exceptional batting from Rajasthan, you just have to tip your hats off to them. There are a number of leaders in the group. It's important we stay tight. And for us it about building as a side and make adjustments. Rather than over-search for the win, we just have to be clear about how we need to operate. Warner is a world-class player, the cards are on the table and I am sure there are a number of conversations to be had,” he added.

'World-class player': Kane Williamson opens up on David Warner's exclusion from SRH playing XI

Sunrisers Hyderabad not only removed David Warner as the captain of the team but also dropped him from the playing XI for the match against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday. Former India batsman Ajay Jadeja has that it felt like Warner was not in full control of the team while adding Kane Williamson is a better captain than the Aussie.

Warner has been a successful captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad and even led to the IPL trophy win in 2016 besides being the highest scorer in SRH history.

However, with results going against SRH in IPL 2021, the franchise decided to make whole-scale changes in the team in a bid to turn their fortunes around. SRH have lost five out of six matches in IPL 2021 so far.

"It was evident that SRH is being controlled by someone from the outside – coach, management, whoever. But the captain Warner was not in full control," Jadeja said on Cricbuzz.

Kane Williamson or David Warner? Ajay Jadeja opines on better captaincy choice for SRH in IPL 2021

David Warner was dropped from the Sunrisers Hyderabad playing XI for their game against the Rajasthan Royals. The news comes only one day after Sunrisers Hyderabad the board declared Kane Williamson as their new captain, supplanting David Warner. Dale Steyn has reacted to SRH dropping David Warner from the playing XI.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost five out of their six games this season and the franchise felt a troublesome choice must be made concerning the team's leadership.

In any case, SRH Director of Cricket Tom Moody stunned everyone during his pre-match meet by saying that David Warner was dropped 'to have a better combination'.

As per Tom Moody, two overseas batsmen, an all-rounder, and the twist of Rashid Khan is the ideal mix for the team going ahead. Henceforth, David Warner has been supplanted by all-rounder Mohammad Nabi in the SRH playing XI.

While Jonny Bairstow is in splendid form, Kane Williamson is indispensable and Rashid Khan is a certifiable match-champ, he believes David Warner actually has a ton to offer SRH as a batsman.

Dale Steyn who has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the past told ESPNCricinfo: “When you hear of Sunrisers I think of two players Rashid Khan and David Warner. But, I think in the past if you think you only think of David Warner straight up. He is Orange Army. So it’s very strange to not see him as a part of the XI. Something is going on there, I don’t know what is going on, but it is strange to not see him in the starting XI.”

“To give up the captaincy to Kane Williamson who is a great captain for New Zealand. He has done it many times before for Sunrisers, but you would still want him (Warner) in the XI. Warner is a destructive player; he is great in the field, great at giving advice and he is a phenomenal batsman.” – he said.

“Sometimes these captaincy things do happen you do often see getting it handed over to another captain, but to be completely omitted from the XI is a strange thing”.

“It seems like there is definitely something happening behind the closed doors and the public are not aware of. At the beginning of the season, they were all in it ‘Dave (Warner) is our boy’ he has been for many years and now they have gotten to a point where they are at the bottom of the table.”

“It is strange that he is not a part of the XI. Understandable if they want to maybe change ownership in terms of captaincy. I think this will be the last time we will see David Warner in an orange army shirt”. – he added.

'Might be the last we have seen of David Warner in a Sunrisers shirt: Dale Steyn

Sunrisers Hyderabad have witnessed a change in captaincy mid-season after a poor run in IPL 2021. Kane Williamson was named the skipper after the team management axed David Warner.

The decision sparked an uproar across social media as David Warner had led the team to a maiden title in IPL 2016. In their first clash under Williamson as the captain this year, SRH decided to drop Warner against Rajasthan Royals.

David Warner sitting near the boundary rope while the match was on caught the attention of netizens. Some called it "egoless", while others felt that it was a black day in IPL history.

IPL 2021: Netizens react after David Warner gets dropped against Rajasthan Royals

Ajay Jadeja trusts David Warner needed more say in team choices at Sunrisers Hyderabad and added that it was the group the board from outside who was settling on the significant choices.

Sunrisers Hyderabad caused a stir when they stripped David Warner of the captaincy halfway through IPL 2021 and delegated Kane Williamson as captain for the remainder of the period.

Ajay Jadeja implied that David Warner wasn't permitted to run his group in his own particular manner.

"It was evident that SRH is being controlled by someone from the outside – coach, management, whoever. But the captain Warner was not in full control. He himself stated that the selection of the final XI is not done by him so he does not have a complete say in it,” Ajay Jadeja.

SRH have had an inauspicious beginning to their mission, losing five out of their initial six games. It will take a monstrous turnaround from here onwards if the Hyderabad establishment needs to make the end-of-the-season games, as they presently sit absolute bottom in the focuses table.

Ajay Jadeja may have been incredulous of SRH's group the board yet recommended that Kane Williamson is head and shoulders above David Warner as commander. The previous India batsman said:

"Anyone who is following cricket for a period of time will tell you that between the two, Williamson is a better choice as captain. Warner is a great batsman and he has also led the Sunrisers to victory in the past but it is a no-brainer as to who is a better choice as skipper."

Warner drove the Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden IPL title in 2016, and the Hyderabad franchise has arisen as perhaps the most predictable sides from that point forward, making the playoffs every year in the last five seasons.

Notwithstanding, breaks have apparently framed inside the team, with the board choosing to mitigate David Warner of his captaincy obligations.

Besides, Sunrisers Hyderabad likewise indicated that the Australian opener probably won't make the playing XI for the side's forthcoming game against the Rajasthan Royals.

Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to change their captain midway after a disappointing first half of IPL 2021. The reigns were handed over to Kane Williamson after axing David Warner as the skipper. The Orange Army have won just one of their six games and are at the bottom of the points table.

The decision sparked a debate on social media on whether it was the right decision by the management or not. IPL commentator and former Kiwi pacer Simon Doull also gave his take on the matter.

"I think there must have been a falling out somewhere along the lines and not with the team, there has to be a falling out with the coaching structure. After what he said in that game about leaving Manish Pandey out, it was not his decision at all, he didn't want to do it clearly. And basically, you passed the buck, you blamed it on someone else and I think he has paid the price for that," said Doull while speaking to Cricbuzz.

"That dynamic... you sack a coach, Tom Moody, you employ Trevor Bayliss and then you bring Tom Moody back to oversee your cricket. I don't know how that relationship can possibly work. And I wonder whether one [win] in 5 (6) is the direct result of that relationship not working... And the press release suggests that he [David Warner] won't even play now that's even more strange," Doull added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner on Wednesday achieved a few milestones in T20 cricket during his 57-run knock against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Warner played a watchful knock of 57 off 55 deliveries and in the process, touched a couple of landmarks. The Australian opener took 47 deliveries to touch the 40-run mark as he completed 10,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Warner became only the fourth player to complete 10,000 runs in the shortest format of the game as he joined the likes of Chris Gayle (13839 runs) and Kieron Pollard (10694) and Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik (10488).

The southpaw also became the first SRH player to score 4,000 runs in IPL in what has been a legendary career. Warner, with his half-century, also completed 50 IPL fifties.

SRH went on to score 171/3 in 20 overs, courtesy Kane Williamson’s blistering knock of 26 off 10 laced with four boundaries and a six as the Kiwi played the field in the last two overs helped by a four-ball 10-run cameo by Kedar Jadhav.

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner thinks that the decision to drop Manish Pandey from the playing XI was a brutal call. Notwithstanding, he upheld the youngster Virat Singh and referred as a lack of experience on testing surfaces like those in Chennai.

In the three matches that Manish Pandey played, he scored 101 runs at 50.5 at a strike rate of 112.2. His replacement Virat Singh has overseen just 15 runs from two innings in IPL 2021.

Batting at No.9, Jagdeesha Suchith hammered an unbeaten six-ball 14 to help Kane Williamson and aided the Sunrisers Hyderabad to tie the game, yet the Delhi Capitals secured success in the Super Over.

Warner was struck by the injury during the second ODI match against India and was ruled out of the first two matches of the four-match Test series last November. However, Warner was brought back to playing XI for the third match when the series was levelled at 1-1.

"It put me back a little bit. Looking back in hindsight, I probably wouldn't have done that. If I'm thinking about myself and the injury, I probably would have said no. I've had this time to heal and obviously with South Africa being called off, it gave me a bit more time to get that strength work done," Warner was quoted as saying by AAP.

Warner was visibly in discomfort during the third and fourth match and struggled to run between the wickets. The Aussie opener scored 5, 13, 1 and 48 in the remaining two matches.

However, the 34-year-old still remains one of the best batsmen in the Australian lineup and could play a key role in the upcoming T20 world cups (back-to-back tournaments). He will also be a part of the 2023 World Cup in India.

"We've got a good opportunity to play that (2023 World Cup) and win in India. The core team there, with the age group as well, it's probably going to be the last for a few of us. Then obviously it's a given you just have to call it time unless you're going to play until you are 41. From a Test cricket point of view, I'd love to play as long as I can," he said.

However, the Australian opener just lasted eight balls before catching a thick edge off Siraj's ball giving an easy catch for the first slip.

Waugh was highly unimpressed by the shot selection of David Warner and called the dismissing shot and a 'loose one'. “That’s not a shot you want to be playing in the first 20 minutes of a Test match. You’re driving on the up, it’s not there to drive and it’s wide as well and you’re throwing your hands at it,” Mark Waugh said.

“Even if his groin was okay, he would have had to take an almighty step to get even close to that delivery. Just an impatient shot really and maybe trying to get runs on the board quickly.”

Another former legend Michael Hussey was concerned by Warner’s body language, saying judging the manner in which he was running, it doesn’t look too promising. “He was running through, he’s certainly labouring a little bit and it’s not the David Warner we are used to seeing. He certainly is not even close to 100 per cent fit. It’s not a great sign,” Hussey said.

'That was loose shot': Mark Waugh unimpressed in the way Warner got out in third Test

Australia coach Justin Langer on Tuesday said David Warner was "very, very, very likely" to play the third Test against India, with Will Pucovski shaping as his opening partner after being given the all-clear from a concussion.

Warner missed the first two Tests with a groin injury, but looks almost certain to return for Thursday's crucial clash in Sydney, with the four-Test series locked at 1-1.

"He looks like he's moving pretty well. He's very determined to play," said Langer. "I'd say he's looking very, very, very likely to play the Test match."

But he added: "He's going to be playing through pain though. It's not so much in the muscle but in the tendon area."

Joe Burns opened with Matthew Wade in the opening two Tests in Adelaide and Melbourne, but after a run of poor scores has been axed.

It opens the door for Pucovski to make his debut after Langer said an independent neurologist had cleared him of any lingering damage after the latest in a series of concussions.

"Will has still got a few boxes to tick today then we weigh up whether this Test match is right, or the next Test match is right. Time will tell," said Langer.

Pucovski, 21, has a long history of being hit on the helmet, and has also dealt with mental health issues.

But Langer said his mind has been put at ease by the neurologists' all-clear on Monday.

"The real heartening thing for him is that while he's had a few concussions in the past ... it's not necessarily going to have any long-term impact on him," he said.

"And I think when you can put your mind at rest with that then that's a real positive for him.

"He's in a great frame of mind, he's incredibly positive about playing cricket, he's trained hard this week and, as he and I have discussed a number of times, the only way to get back on the horse is to get back on the horse," he added.

If Pucovski plays, Wade will almost certainly drop back to his more accustomed number five position with allrounder Cameron Green retained at six.

That would likely see Travis Head dropped.

Langer says Warner 'very likely' to play through pain

David Warner's return will provide the Australians much-needed confidence for the third Test match, however, his fitness is still in doubt and the assistant coach Andrew McDonald on Thursday said that the opener will play against India even if he is not 100 per cent fit.

“That’s a real, clear option. He may not be 100 per cent fit -- who is coming off an injury? You never know until you get out there,” McDonald said during a virtual press conference.

“Look, if he’s 90-95% fit and the conversation is that he’s fit enough to be able to go out there and perform his duties for the team, then I’m sure that’ll be a conversation the coach has with the player.

Warner sustained a groin muscle tear during the ODI series against the Men in Blue and will return to bolster Australia's batting order.

“Most times Justin (Langer) is pretty open with the players in terms of giving them accountability around that.”Warner has been named in the squad along with Victorian young gun Will Pucovski for the third Test as Australia look to bounce back from the eight-wicket loss in the Boxing Day Test here.McDonald said Warner is optimistic about making a comeback in Sydney.

“He’s (Warner) very optimistic that he should be ready to go, which is great news for us. We are really excited to have him back.

“I’m sure that he’s excited to come back into the group as well. There’s nothing worse than being injured when you are at the top of your game as David has been over a period of time.”Pucovski, too, is set for a potential debut after the youngster suffered a concussion in the first warm-up match against the Indians earlier this month.

“He will be put through tests whatever it needs to be put through to make himself available for selection to potentially open the batting. So it’s good to have a little bit of depth out there.”One of the biggest setbacks for the Aussies so far has been a rare slump in form for batting mainstay Steve Smith, who has so far scored only 10 runs in four innings in the series.

“I wouldn’t be too quick to be judging Steve Smith not looking good in the middle. He looks pretty solid and hitting the ball well at the nets,” McDonald said.

The third Test will be played from January 7-11 at the Sydney Cricket ground.

David Warner, Will Pucovski return to Australian squad vs India; Joe Burns dropped

Star Australian batsman David Warner will miss the Boxing Day Test against India after failing to shake off the groin injury that kept him out of the opening fixture, Cricket Australia said Wednesday.

The governing body said Warner and paceman Sean Abbott had also been excluded from the Australian team's bio-secure bubble in Melbourne as a precaution due to a Covid-19 outbreak in their hometown Sydney.

"While neither player has been in a specific hotspot as outlined by NSW Health, Cricket Australia's bio-security protocols do not allow them to rejoin the squad in time for the Boxing Day Test," it said.

The second Test against India starts at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 26 and the teams have been training in bio-secure bubbles.

Warner and Abbott flew to Melbourne on Saturday hoping to avoid quarantine issues arising from the Sydney Covid-19 outbreak.

But the team's Covid-19 protocols prevented them from joining the squad in time for the Test, and Cricket Australia said Warner would not have recovered from in time anyway.

Warner limped out of Australia's second one-day international against the tourists last month in agony after suffering the injury.

Authorities in New South Wales state have been scrambling to contain a virus cluster that emerged in Sydney's northern beaches after a long period of no community transmission in Australia's largest city.

The cluster currently stands at just under 100, and the state government announced a second day of single-digit growth in cases Wednesday and eased lockdown restrictions for Christmas.

It remains unclear whether the outbreak will affect the third Test against India, which is due to begin in Sydney on January 7.

"I know Cricket Australia's doing everything in their power to have the Test match in Sydney but we'll know more in a couple of days," off-spinner Nathan Lyon told reporters Wednesday.

"Fingers crossed it's in Sydney, but more importantly hopefully everyone stays safe and can have a decent Christmas."

Australia's Warner, Abbott ruled out of Boxing Day India Test

Virat Kohli's absence in the final three Test matches against hosts Australia has been the talking point of the tour. Ajinkya Rahane is likely to lead the team in Kohli's absence. Rahane will be leading with a huge void left by Kohli's absence.

Aussie legend Ian Chappell feels that captaincy should not be a problem for India in the Test series as they have Rahane, however, he agreed that Virat's absence could play a huge role.

Chappell recalled Rahane’s ‘aggressive’ style of captaincy in the Dharamsala Test in 2017. “Well, I saw him captain in one Test against Australia (in Dharamsala in March 2017) and found his captaincy to be fabulous. He was really an aggressive captain,” Chappell told PTI during a virtual interactive session “Cricket Conversations”, anchored by senior cricket journalist Ashis Ray.

“I remember a couple of aspects about his captaincy. What stood out for me was in the Australian first innings, Warner was going well and getting on top of Indian bowlers. He brought in Kuldeep Yadav (debutant) and he dismissed Warner.

“The second thing I remember was India chasing a low total and they lost a couple of wickets. Rahane just came in and attacked the Australian bowlers and scored some 20 odd (38 off 27 balls). I liked that approach.”

“Look, as a captain, you always have two choices -- one is the aggressive route and the other is a conservative approach. I have believed that in Test cricket aggressive approach is must and Rahane is aggressive.”

India have an edge against the Australian side in the day and night test match where Kohli will be present but the hosts will be missing out on Warner.

“Everything that could have gone wrong with opening has gone wrong. Warner is out and Joe Burns has been struggling. Luke Pucovski after another concussion, I don’t think it would be good to play him both in terms of confidence and medical point of view.”

“I think Australians will go with Joe Burns and Marcus Harris opening combination. I thought Cameron Green would have played in Sydney but after his century in the warm-up game and a couple of wickets that he picked, there may be a temptation to play him in Adelaide,” said the former Aussie legend.

Pacer Mitchell Starc will be replaced by James Pattinson. Starc is not available as he is out on compassionate grounds.

“But top order is the biggest concern. It’s not just about Warner’s presence but the manner in which he scores those runs as has detrimental effect on the opposition. In his absence, the responsibility will now be on Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne,” Chappell said.

He revealed a trick on how India could dismiss Smith. “You have to unsettle him (Smith) by changing plans. If you bowl short of a length, then he will be rocking back (and hitting for fun) all day. Somehow, you have got to get him to play forward even at the cost of few runs. But you will still have some chance of getting him out,” he said.

Rahane just came in and attacked the Australian bowlers and scored some 20 odd (38 off 27 balls). I liked that approach.” “Look, as a captain, you always have two choices -- one is the aggressive route and the other is a conservative approach. I have believed that in Test cricket aggressive approach is must and Rahane is aggressive.” India have an edge against the Australian side in the day and night test match where Kohli will be present but the hosts will be missing out on Warner. “Everything that could have gone wrong with opening has gone wrong. Warner is out and Joe Burns has been struggling. Luke Pucovski after another concussion, I don’t think it would be good to play him both in terms of confidence and medical point of view.” “I think Australians will go with Joe Burns and Marcus Harris opening combination.

In what comes as a massive blow to Australian cricket team, star opening batsman David Warner has been ruled out of the first Test against India, starting December 17 in Adelaide, but will try and return for the Boxing Day Test.

Warner suffered a strained adductor muscle that forced him to walk out of Australia’s second ODI against India in November following a stunning knock of 83.

"I feel I have made great progress in a short amount of time and it's best for me to stay here in Sydney to continue working on getting back to full fitness," the 34-year-old said in a statement.

"The injury feels a lot better, but I need to be able to satisfy in my own mind and to my team-mates that it is 100 percent ready for Test match conditions.

David Warner ruled out of Day-Night Test vs India, likely to be fit for Boxing Day Test

Australia's swashbuckling opener David Warner's participation in the remainder of the limited-overs series against India was thrown into doubt after he suffered a groin injury during the second ODI here on Sunday.

Warner hobbled off the field after he struggled to get up following a dive in the fourth over of the Indian innings.

A car waited outside the Sydney Cricket Ground to take the senior player to a nearby hospital for undergoing scans. Asked about the opener's condition at the post-match presentation ceremony, Australian skipper Aaron Finch said he was not aware of its severity but didn't expect the southpaw to be available.

"No idea. We've got to reshuffle it around, I don't think he'll be available," Finch said after the 51-run triumph which gave the home side an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-ODI series.

Considering the way Warner grimaced in pain after falling while diving to stop the ball, it appears he could not only miss the third and final ODI but also the following three-match T20 series.

The T20 games are scheduled to start on December 4 in Canberra. Teammates Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell and physio David Beakley helped Warner take the first few steps on his way to the Australian dressing room, from where he headed straight to the hospital.

Stationed at the mid-off before getting injured, Warner had earlier made a brisk 83 in Australia's 389 for four in the second ODI after starting the series with a 69-run knock on Friday. The final 50-over fixture will be played in Canberra on Wednesday.

The limited overs engagement will be followed by a marquee four-match Test series between the two heavyweights of international cricket.

The Test series will begin in Adelaide on December 17, which is less than three weeks away. The former vice-captain's injury comes two days after Marcus Stoinis suffered a side strain during the ODI series-opener.

Australian opener David Warner on Monday vowed to keep his temper in check and rather let his bat do the talking in the upcoming series against India while adding Virat Kohli’s Men in Blue will try to unnerve him with verbal taunts.

Warner, who was once known to keep heart in the sleeves during on-field confrontations, said he has toned down himself as he matured.

The flamboyant opener expects to have some words thrown his way during the upcoming series, which starts with a three-match ODI series on Friday.

"The last time we toured in India they really engaged us like that," Warner told a conference call.

IPL 2020: David Warner's Sunrisers take on Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers for a playoff spot

Wriddhiman Saha stamped his class with a 45-ball 87 before Rashid Khan dished out a clinical bowling performance as Sunrisers Hyderabad kept themselves alive in the race for IPL play-offs with a whopping 88-run win over Delhi Capital, here on Tuesday.

Asked to bat first, splendid knocks by Saha (87), skipper David Warner (66) and Manish Pandey (44) powered Sunrisers to 219 for two.

Star spinner Rashid then led a fine bowling display to end with the impressive figures of 4-0-7-3, his best in this season.

The Afghan bowled an astonishing 17 dot balls in his quota of four overs, helping his side bowl out the Capitals for 131 in 19 overs.

Sunrisers (10 points) have now moved up to sixth from seventh position with this win, while the Capitals, who slumped to their third consecutive loss, were pushed down to the third spot with 14 points.

Chasing a stiff target, it was a rather ordinary performance by the the Capitals batsmen. Shikhar Dhawan (0) and Marcus Stoinis (5), who was elevated to number 3, perished in the first two overs.

Ajinkya Rahane (26) and Shimron Heytmyer (16) quickly started the recovery work, stitching a 40 run stand, the highest for their team. The duo targeted Jason Holder, collecting 22 runs in the sixth over as Delhi reached 54 for two at the end of the Powerplay overs.

However, Rashid dealt Delhi with twin blows, getting rid of both Rahane and Hetmyer in the seventh over. Skipper Shreyas Iyer (7) was next to depart as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.

Seven of Delhi's batsmen failed to reach double digits with Rishabh Pant (36) being the top scorer.

While Rashid was the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers, Sandeep Sharma (2/27) and T Natarajan (2/26) picked two wickets apiece. Vijay Shankar(1/11), Shahbaz Nadeem (1/8), Holder (1/46) took a wicket each.

Earlier, both openers Warner, who looked in good nick, and Saha, playing his second game of the season, went after the Delhi bowlers from the word go.

Fully capitalising on the field restrictions, the duo smashed boundaries (11 fours and two sixes) every over to collect 77-runs in the first six overs, the best Poweplay figures of the season.

In the sixth over, Warner smashed the tournament's leading wicket-taker Kagiso Rabada (0/54) for four boundaries and a six, helping the Sunrisers reach 100 runs in just 8.4 overs.

Till Warner was taking on the bowlers, Saha played the second fiddle to perfection.

The Australian celebrated his 34th birthday with a half-century off just 25 balls, hitting two sixes and eight fours at the Dubai International Stadium.

To Delhi's relief Ravichandran Ashwin (1/35) broke the 107-run opening stand in the 10th over as he dismissed danger man Warner, who was caught at extra cover by Axar Patel.

With Warner gone, Saha hammered the Capitals bowlers all around the park. The wicketkeeper batsman reached his fifty in style with a boundary. He plundered 12 fours and two sixes before pacer Anrich Nortje (1/37) dismissed him in the 15th over.

Pandey and Kane Williamsion (11 not out) continued the assault on a listless Delhi bowling unit.

Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag has named two cricketers who can beat Lara's unbeatable quadruple century in Test cricket.

On his daily social media show, titled 'Viru ki Baithak', he answered a fan's question while speaking about Lara's unbeaten 400 against England at St. John’s, Antigua back in April 2004.

According to Sehwag, David Warner and Rohit Sharma are the batsmen who he believes can break the record. "If anyone can break this record of Lara, it is David Warner and Rohit Sharma. If Rohit Sharma has one and a half days according to them and they happen, then they can break these records," he said.

Brian Lara remains the highest individual score in Test cricket. Sehwag was the first Indian to smash a triple century for India. He achieved this feat against Pakistan in Multan in 2004. The second time he scored 300, he became the fastest to score a triple century.

Karun Nair became the second Indian batsman to score a triple century. He was the first Indian to convert a maiden test century into a triple hundred.

Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad take on in the 29th match of this year's Indian Premier League at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Chennai Super Kings have had a woeful run in this year's IPL after losing five matches and winning just two. To make it into the playoffs, CSK need six wins from their remaining seven fixtures. However, CSK will want to get back to winning ways. Sunrisers have already beaten the Super Kings earlier in this tournament. SRH won the match by 7 runs. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, have had a season full of ups and downs. David Warner and Co. have won three matches and lost four matches. David Warner's side has been stronger than the Chennai side. With Warner back in form, the opening pair could wreak havoc on a ground like Dubai. Manish Pandey has been in the best of his form. Rashid Khan has an asset for SRH and could be vital in today's match. The two teams have faced each other 13 times in the IPL so far, and CSK holds a 9-4 head-to-head win/loss record over SRH. Probable XI: Sunrisers Hyderabad: David Warner (c), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Priyam Garg, Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan. IPL 2020, CSK vs SRH: Preview, stats, players to watch out for

Hyderabad cruised to a 69-run win against Punjab in Match 22 of the 2020 IPL, at Dubai. Hyderabad got 201/6 largely due to a 160-run opening stand off 91 balls, between David Warner (52 in 40 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (97 in 55). Punjab were then bowled out for a mere 132, Rashid Khan leading the way with 4-1-12-3, the high point being a double-wicket maiden in the 15th over.

In the My11 Circle Cricbuzz Live, Michael Vaughan praised the Hyderabad openers: “If they come out and play the way they did today, the Warner-Bairstow combination … When they have a night out, they are very difficult to stop. They run between the wickets hard, they are powerful, [they are a] left-hand-right-hand combination.”

“He is a class act,” added Vaughan, making special mention of Bairstow, who was named Player of the Match. “If you look at white-ball cricket of the last five years, you have to put him in the top bracket because of the consistent levels at which he has performed … He is a powerful player. You can see the way he can strike the ball. He is so busy, so difficult to keep quiet because he runs between the wickets so hard.”

Vaughan criticised Punjab’s strategies, pointing out that Mujeeb Ur Rahman is not good enough to bat at No. 7. “There are too many brains, too many chefs in the kitchen. It’s a simple game that has almost been overcomplicated … But the basics of the game haven’t changed. I don’t care what format it is – you don’t send Mujeeb to deal [with] Rashid [Khan]”.

“To be brutally honest, they [Punjab] have got some good individuals that, on their day, can surprise anyone,” added Vaughan, citing the example of Nicholas Pooran, who helped himself to the fastest fifty of the season, off 17 balls, and finished on 77 from 37 balls. However, Vaughan concluded that “is just not a good team,” contrasting them with more balanced sides like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

“Anil Kumble, as we know him, is very systems-driven,” Bhogle expressed his surprise at Punjab’s tendency to frequently chop and change members from the playing XI. “Anil has been there, done that, he has been in the Mumbai Indians, he has been a magnificent captain for India, so that’s what surprises me a little bit.”

Thanks to the win, Hyderabad are now at third place, while Punjab are still languishing at the bottom.

They run between the wickets hard, they are powerful, [they are a] left-hand-right-hand combination.” “He is a class act,” added Vaughan, making special mention of Bairstow, who was named Player of the Match. “If you look at white-ball cricket of the last five years, you have to put him in the top bracket because of the consistent levels at which he has performed … He is a powerful player. You can see the way he can strike the ball. He is so busy, so difficult to keep quiet because he runs between the wickets so hard.” ALSO READ: Leaders without title play pivotal role in direction that team travels: Eoin Morgan Vaughan criticised Punjab’s strategies, pointing out that Mujeeb Ur Rahman is not good enough to bat at No.
