David Warner comes up with hilarious response as Rohit Sharma flaunts India's T20 World Cup jersey

IPL 2021 ended in a fitting manner on Friday evening (October 15), with the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) meeting the Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

The 14th edition of the cash-rich league has been very different from all the preceding seasons as it took place in two halves, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the 14th season lived up to expectations despite the BCCI facing plenty of issues to complete the marquee edition in 2021. The just-concluded season saw many uncapped players standing tall with the bat and ball whereas some known and big names also outperformed for their respective franchises.

While Harshal Patel ended with the Purple Cap, with as many as 32 wickets for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), CSK's Ruturaj Gaikwad earned the elusive Orange Cap after Dhoni & Co. won their fourth championship, beating KKR by 27 runs in the finale.

Ruturaj ended with 636 runs at 45.35 along with a strike-rate of 136.26 following his 32 in the summit clash. His opening partner Faf du Plessis gave him a very tough fight for the cap, however, the 24-year-old youngster topped the run-scoring chart courtesy of a two-run lead.

In this way, Ruturaj has joined some elite names in the list for the Orange Cap winners. It includes some big names such as Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, David Warner (winning it thrice), KL Rahul, etc. Here's the whole Orange Cap list after IPL 2021:

David Warner had a torrid and forgettable run in IPL 2021. The Aussie opener started once again as the Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) captain, but back-to-back losses and his indifferent form led to his sacking during the first leg in India, early this year. When the second and final leg commenced in the UAE, by then Warner had lost the faith of the SRH team management.

While he played the first two games of the Hyderabad franchise, his low-returns with the bat led to his ouster. Moreover, he was not even seen in the SRH dugout for a few games; raising eyebrows among the ardent SRH fans. While Warner finally returned to the stands, during SRH's face-off versus Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he wasn't included in a video shared by the franchise -- featuring all their players -- after they ended IPL 14 at the bottom.

'NoWarnerNoSRH' trends on Twitter as fans back David Warner, demand his retention ahead of IPL 2022

David Warner has finally broken his silence on his fall from grace at the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Warner had started the season as the captain of the Hyderabad franchise before being sacked from captaincy midway through the season. He was then dropped from the playing XI and managed to make only eight appearances for SRH in the tournament this year.

Warner was sacked as the captain of the side after SRH managed only a solitary win in their first six matches in IPL 2021. He was replaced by Kane Williamson, however, the move didn't change SRH fortunes as their woeful season continued under the Kiwi batsman.

SRH became the first team to be eliminated from the race for the playoffs and finished at the bottom of the table with just three wins from 14 matches this season. Warner opened up on being sacked from captaincy and being dropped from the playing XI in what was one of the worst seasons for him in the history of IPL.

The Australian star said it was a tough pill to swallow to not being explained why he was sacked from captaincy and that he thought what he has achieved for the franchise in the IPL over the years would be taken into account when such treatment was being rendered out to him.

“I am not 100 per cent sure how to answer that. With the utmost respect for the owners, Trevor Baylis, Laxman, Moody and Murali, when a decision gets made, it has to be a unanimous one. You don't know who the person is going for you and who isn't," Warner said on Sports Today, when asked about what went wrong for him at the franchise this season.

David Warner has finally broken his silence on his fall from grace at the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Warner had started the season as the captain of the Hyderabad franchise before being sacked from captaincy midway through the season.

However, Warner insisted there are some questions that he would never get answers for and it was in the best interest of all parties to move on. Warner scored 195 runs in eight matches that he played for SRH this season as the franchise failed to make it to the playoffs. “Especially when you have played about 100 games for the franchise, I think I had four bad games in those first five matches in Chennai. David Warner leaving SRH? Australian star's heartfelt post on Instagram hints at his exit

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)'s former captain David Warner had a season to forget in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Warner started the season as the captain of the side before being asked to step down from captaincy midway. He was then dropped from the playing XI, hinting at his exit from the side ahead of the upcoming mega auction.

Warner was replaced by Kane Williamson as the captain of SRH after the side managed only one win in their first six games. He was then left out of the playing XI for SRH's seventh game of the season before the tournament had to be postponed due to COVID-19. The Australian batsman returned to playing XI for SRH's first two games in the UAE leg before being dropped again for the remainder of the season.

Warner didn't even get to travel with the rest of the squad to the stadiums during the later stages of the tournament and the franchise's treatment of their former captain was questioned by many. On Saturday, SRH released a farewell video for fans after the conclusion of IPL 2021's league stages as they failed to make it to the playoffs this year.

Warner was missing from the video shared by the Orange Army on social media, prompting fans to ask about his absence. One of the fans tagged Warner on Instagram and asked him why he was not in the farewell video. The Australian star responded and stated that he was not asked to be in the video.

'I wasn't asked to do it': David Warner responds to fan after going missing from SRH's farewell video

West Indies batting legend Brian Lara feels that Sunrisers Hyderabad need to look at building a side around tall all-rounder Jason Holder for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season, adding that the skipper should be a local pick as it "allows them to manage overseas slots better".

SRH had a forgettable IPL 2021, finishing the season last with only three wins from 14 games. They removed David Warner as skipper following a dismal run during the India leg and put New Zealand`s Kane Williamson in-charge of the side. However, their struggles continued and, on Friday, they lost the final league match of IPL 2021 to Mumbai Indians by 42 runs.

"Jason Holder is the shining light in a disastrous season. I`m not sure if he is an out-and-out T20 player, but I feel they can build a team around him," Lara told cricket.com on Saturday.

Lara said having a local player as captain allows teams to be more flexible with their foreign recruits for the four slots in playing eleven.

"It`s always great to have a local player to lead the side because you only have four selections in the playing XI and you are carrying the captain in that. There is a big auction coming up and SRH have a lot of shaking up to do. Let`s see how they will get the right group to move forward," he said.

Lara said that it was difficult to find positives in a side whose performance kept slipping with every match.

"It`s tough to pinpoint any positives. Rashid Khan was not at his best. They lost Jonny Bairstow and they got Jason Roy, there is not much they gained from that," Lara said.

However Lara praised the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians, who despite bowing out of the tournament on Friday, scored their highest ever total in the IPL.

"Mumbai scored their highest ever total in the IPL, so where was 75 per cent of that effort in previous matches which would`ve kept them in the tournament. They went from abysmal to outstanding. It was about personality, the way Ishan Kishan (84) and Suryakumar Yadav (82) batted so well. The IPL is just six months away so I think they will carry this into the next tournament just like CSK did from IPL 2020.

"Mumbai Indians had an equation which was almost impossible but they gave it a go. But they will be happy that the Indian players got good runs ahead of World Cup," Lara added.

Tom Moody's desire to become India's next head coach reason behind David Warner's fall from grace at SRH?

David Warner has had to endure a disastrous season with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Warner was sacked from captaincy midway through the season before being dropped from the playing XI in what has been one of the worst campaigns for him in the cash-rich league.

However, Warner was not included in the playing XI against MI despite Kane Williamson missing the clash. Manish Pandey is leading the side in the absence of Williamson. Hinting at his SRH exit, Warner took to social media to post an emotional message for the fans.

David Warner hints at SRH exit in emotional post: My family and I are going to miss you

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final league game of the season in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Friday (October 08). Kane Williamson & Co. have already been eliminated from the race for playoffs and will be playing for pride against the defending champions, who are also all but out of the competition.

Ahead of the clash, talks of David Warner's potential return to the playing XI have intensified on social media. Fans have been requesting SRH to give Warner the farewell he deserves by including him in the playing XI for the final league game against MI.
Amid talks of Warner potentially making his comeback against Mumbai Indians on Friday to play his 'farewell' game for SRH, former India opener Gautam Gambhir has given his take on the matter. Gambhir said SRH's job is to win matches and not give farewell to players while stating that Warner should play if he fits in the best possible XI for SRH.

"See, a lot of great players didn't get farewells. We all know that even some legends didn't, although legend is a big word. I don't understand this system of farewells. Ultimately, you are playing to win the match. If your best playing XI includes him, then absolutely give him a chance. If not, then absolutely don't give him a chance. As simple as it gets. SunRisers' job is to win matches and not give farewells," Gambhir said on ESPN Cricinfo.

SRH's job is to win matches, not give farewells: Gautam Gambhir on David Warner's potential return against MI

David Warner has had a terrible IPL 2021. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener, who has crossed the 500-run mark every time for the Orange Army since 2014, didn't have a great start to IPL 2021 with the bat and the franchise's back-to-back defeats in the first leg saw him before removed from captaincy.

In the second and final leg, currently underway in the UAE, Warner had two forgettable outings before being dropped from the playing XI. In addition, he wasn't even spotted in the SRH dugout following his ouster -- raising eyebrows among Hyderabad fans worldwide. While Warner was seen cheering for Hyderabad from the stands, during SRH's face-off with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 49 on Sunday (October 3), many ardent followers of the franchise became emotional; seeing the plight of Warner.

Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has now opened up on Warner's mysterious omission and believes it is 'non-cricketing reason' behind his sudden ouster.

Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo's RunOrder, "Reason has to be non-cricketing. Warner's numbers over the last few years have been just mind-boggling. I think he is the best IPL batter we have ever seen with regards to longevity," said Manjrekar. Warner has managed just 195 runs in eight matches this season, in stark contrast to his record in the previous seasons of the IPL. He indicated in comments on Instagram that he may never play another game for SRH this season and if that turns out to be true, this will mark the first time since 2013 that Warner has scored less than 500 runs in a season.

"His poor form has not been going on for so long that Warner gets dropped on batting form. So, it has to be a non-cricketing reason and we have no idea what that is. That is the other thing I don't understand, why everything is so hush-hush, but there is something definitely going wrong there," said Manjrekar.

For the unversed, Warner has crossed the 500-run mark on every occasion ever since he joined the SRH camp in 2014. In 2016, the swashbuckling left-hander had led SRH to their only title in the IPL. However with such unfortunate turn of events of Warner and the SRH team management's possible fallout, it seems very likely that the Aussie opener will be released from the franchise and enter the mega auction pool, ahead of IPL 2022 edition.

ALSO READ | IPL 2021: Out of favour David Warner cheering for SRH from stands breaks fans' hearts on Twitter Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo's RunOrder, "Reason has to be non-cricketing. SRH, meanwhile, lost their face-off versus KKR and continue to remain at the bottom with two more games to go. They are set to finish the season at the last position.

IPL 2021: Sanjay Manjrekar opines on David Warner's SRH axing, believes 'non-cricketing reason' behind his ouster

David Warner has had a terrible season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2021. The swashbuckling SRH opener was criticised for his ordinary strike-rate and dwindling form during the first leg of IPL 14 whereas his team's back-to-back defeats added to his woes. Eventually, he was sacked as the SRH captain in the first leg and also lost the faith of the team management to be dropped after successive failures with the bat in the UAE leg.

Warner has played only two games for SRH in the second and final leg. Despite the team struggling and set to end the season at the bottom, Warner has been dropped from the playing XI of the Kane Williamson-led Hyderabad franchise. During match 49 which was held between SRH and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday evening, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, Warner was finally spotted at the stands after not even travelling with the team to the stadium in their last few encounters.

As the cameras spotted Warner sitting in the stands, cheering and waving the SRH flag, it sent the ardent Hyderabad fans into a meltdown seeing the plight of the Aussie opener. Regarded as one of the biggest stars and performers from the SRH camp since 2013, Warner's disastrous season is very likely to see him get released and go under the hammer in the upcoming mega auction before IPL 2022. Hence, the SRH fans became emotional seeing Warner at the stands.

IPL 2021: Out of favour David Warner cheering for SRH from stands breaks fans' hearts on Twitter

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star David Warner has had a dramatic fall from grace in the Indian Premier League (IPL). One of the best batsmen in the history of the league, Warner had failed to cement his spot in SRH's playing XI after being sacked from captaincy. From leading SRH to their maiden IPL title in 2016, Warner is now struggling to make the cut in the XI as a pure batsman.

Over the years, Warner has played an instrumental role in SRH's success in the IPL, however, the Australian batsman has had to endure a terrible campaign so far this season. Warner was sacked from captaincy midway through the season during the first leg of the tournament in India earlier this year.

He played the first two matches in the ongoing UAE leg before being dropped from the playing XI after failing to impress with the willow. After being left out of the playing XI against Rajasthan Royals, Warner once again did not travel with the SRH squad for their game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Sharjah on Thursday.

Amid reports that SRH have started to look beyond him and are planning to offload him ahead of the upcoming mega auction, Warner took to Instagram to post a cryptic message in his story. “It's not about who is real to you face. 'It's about who stays real behind your back': David Warner posts cryptic message after being left out of SRH's playing XI against CSK

IPL 2021: From David Warner to KL Rahul! 5 captaincy options for RCB as Virat Kohli set to step down

David Warner was left out from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)'s playing XI against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Monday. His exclusion came as a surprise to many as the left-hander continues to struggle to cement his spot in the playing XI after being sacked from captaincy earlier this season.

Warner, who has been one of the most consistent run-getters in the league over the years, was sacked from captaincy midway through the IPL 2021 season. He was asked to step down after SRH managed only one win in their first six games of the season with Kane Williamson taking over as captain.

However, the decision to sack Warner didn't work quite well in SRH's favour as Williamson & Co. have managed only two wins so far in ten games and are all but out of the race for playoffs. Warner was part of SRH's playing XI in their first two games of the UAE leg where he managed to score 0 and 2 before being dropped on Monday.

Former India pacer Irfan Pathan shared his thoughts on Warner's situation at SRH and said the franchise has sent a clear-cut signal to the Australian batsman about his future. Pathan feels it's the end of Warner at SRH and that the franchise has already started looking beyond him to plan for the future.

“Sunrisers are looking for the future, isn’t it? It’s a clear-cut signal to David Warner as well, that we are looking beyond you. It’s a very simple thing,” Pathan said on Star Sports.

Warner has so far played 150 matches in his IPL career and is one of the leading run-getters of all time with 5449 runs to his name at an impressive average of over 41. He remains the only captain to have led SRH to an IPL title but his time at the franchise seems to be coming to an end now.

Sunrisers Hyderabad went on to win the game against RR by seven wickets on Sunday after successfully chasing down the target of 165 runs with 9 balls to spare. In the absence of Warner, his replacement Jason Roy slammed a cracking 60 off 42 balls while skipper Williamson scored an unbeaten 51 off 41 balls to help SRH secure their second win of the season.

Clear cut signal to David Warner, Sunrisers are looking beyond him: Irfan Pathan makes bold claim on SRH star's future

David Warner has been one of the biggest match-winners for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise ever since he joined the side in 2014. Since then, the Aussie opener has been most consistent for the Orange Army, surpassing the 500-run mark on every occasion and ending as the leading run-getter in three seasons.

Apart from this, Warner has also led the SRH camp to their solitary IPL title so far, in the 2016 edition. However, things changed for the worst for the veteran opener in the IPL 2021 edition. He started the first leg of IPL 14 on a slow and ordinary note, with a strike-rate way below his standards, before some reports stated that the team management wasn't happy with the way he reacted to Manish Pandey's omission, after the Super Over game versus Delhi Capitals (DC) early this year.

Not being able to score freely, along with the SRH franchise facing back-to-back defeats, Warner was removed from the playing XI. He was also replaced by Kane Williamson as the captain before IPL 14 came to a halt in early May, due to the Covid-19 crisis in India.

Come the second and final leg, which is underway in the UAE, Warner's struggles have continued. He managed scores of 0 and 2 before being overlooked for SRH's encounter versus Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday (September 27). Nonetheless, many viewers couldn't even spot Warner in the dugout. Not seeing him travel with the team to the stadium led to many speculations.

Now, Warner has all but confirmed that he won't be travelling to the stadium any further in the ongoing season, hinting at his possible exit from SRH. Here's what he replied to a fan who asked about his whereabouts when the Aussie opener shared a glimpse of the SRH-RR encounter from his hotel room:

It is highly possible now that Warner is set to enter the mega auction, which is slated to be held later this year ahead of the IPL 2022 edition. With two new teams entering the scene, along with some other franchises also looking for a captain, Warner's stakes might rise further in the next season. However, his likely departure at the SRH franchise leaves many disappointed given how big a player he has been at the Orange Army.

Sandpaper Gate was badly handled, it was a joke: David Warner's manager opens up on ball-tampering scandal

Cameron Bancroft is out of quarantine and, in the wake of being "brutally cold" on his appearance in Durham a week ago, the Australian batsman is starting to defrost and open up to another period of English county cricket. “I wouldn’t say the mornings have been red-hot,” he says dryly at Durham’s serene Riverside ground, “but they’re significantly warmer than when I got here and the wind was coming in from the Arctic.”

Bancroft gives a burning understanding of the unforgiving pressing factors that shadow elite game when he was requested that he return us to the second day of his Test debut against England at the Gabba in Brisbane in November 2017. After England had been bowled out for 302 in their first innings, Bancroft left with David Warner to confront Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad. “I remember feeling so nervous that I couldn’t control my body,” Bancroft reveals. “I had a lot of stress because I wanted to do really well and it was a dream of mine to play Test cricket for Australia.”

“I invested too much to the point where I lost control of my values. What had become important to me was being liked, being well valued, feeling really important to my teammates, like I was contributing something by using sandpaper on a cricket ball. That’s something I don’t think I even understood until that mistake happened. But it’s part of the journey and a hard lesson I needed to learn.” – said Cameron Bancroft in a conversation with The Guardian.

Cameron Bancroft has proposed that Australian bowlers were likewise aware of the sandpaper plot in the Cape Town Test against South Africa in 2018. An interior investigation at the time by Cricket Australia found that David Warner asked Bancroft to rub sandpaper ready, while captain Steve Smith chose to choose to disregard.

Thus, Cameron Bancroft, David Warner, and Steve Smith were suspended. In any case, in a surprising disclosure, Bancroft has implied that the Australian bowlers were likewise very much aware of the sandpaper ploy. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, and Nathan Lyon were the Australian bowlers who included in the scandalous Test match.

In the wake of being trapped in 2018, Steve Smith said the team's "leadership group" knew about the thing that was going on, and no names had come out at that point. However, Cameron Bancroft has now recommended that the bowling department thought about the plot.

"Yeah, look, I think, yeah, I think it’s pretty probably self-explanatory," an uneasy Bancroft told The Guardian when asked about whom else knew about the ploy apart from the banned players.
