The Indian cricket team is really fortunate to be enhanced with a plethora of batting options. Team India has consistently highly esteemed this viewpoint for many years. The next generation likewise guarantees a decent future for the 'Men In Blue' and among those is Abhimanyu Easwaran.

He burst on to the scene for certain stupendous exhibitions against solid teams like Mumbai and Tamil Nadu. Life couldn't have been something more, there was a hustling clamoring cricket institute set up by his dad 6 years before he was even conceived. There was solace, there was comfort, however, Abhimanyu decided to stay cramped and gave his all, without fail.

The right-hand opening batsman had a guard 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season wherein he notched up 861 runs from six matches at a normal of 95.66 with a most noteworthy score of 201*. On the eighteenth of July, the Cricket Association of Bengal remunerated his adventures with 'Best Cricketer of the Year'. With an eye on turning into an all-format player, the adolescent has placed in a great deal of difficult work. Every one of these endeavors has seen him ascend in the line for the opening batsmen spots for the test team.

Abhimanyu Easwaran has been named as a backup for the impending World Test Championship finale and five-match Test series against England. What's more, this comes as an immense lift for the Bengal Ranji team skipper since it shows the public selectors have been watching out for his advancement.

In a conversation with ANI, Abhimanyu Easwaran opened up on his expectations from the UK visit and what he has gained from any semblance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma by watching them intently in nets sessions.

"Really excited and really delighted about the selection. For me, it will be more important to learn as much as I can and picking cues from other players who are really experienced and have been performing at the highest level for a long time. I guess it is just about becoming a better player when I come back," he said.

"I think the intensity of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at practice was amazing to watch. Everybody's preparations were very specific on what they needed to do in the game. That was really important learning and they were very precise on what they wanted from the practice. I think that was good learning for me.

"There were few interactions about the preparation and how specific they were, the intensity at practice. These learnings were very important for me and how clear they were about the game plans they would have the next day. As we saw after the second Test, the wickets were turning quite a bit so I saw they were pretty clear in terms of the game plan and to see them do exactly that on the next day in the ground was pretty amazing," - he added.

"I guess it was more about playing white-ball cricket because we did not have red-ball cricket this year. When I was with the Indian team and a week before that also, I started working on my red-ball game and for the past 10-12 days, I have been working on the long format. It is about bringing that discipline back.” – on how difficult it would be adjusting to red-ball cricket since Ranji cricket was scheduled this year due to the COVID outbreak.

"In ODI cricket, you tend to attack a bit more and there are balls in ODIs which you attack which probably would leave in Test cricket, it is about having that balance and just being disciplined about my batting," he added.

Talking about the difficulties of bio-bubble in the present age, Easwaran said: "It is a part of life now. A week's quarantine first, you stay inside your rooms, you are not allowed to go out, sometimes that helps you also. Anyway, there is a lot of cricket going on so you get a week to yourself and you can relax and you can train inside your rooms.”

"After a week, you get to meet your teammates; you are allowed to go to the team room. That is not such a big issue but not being able to go out, that's difficult, but it is a part of life now, so we have to adjust," he concluded.

Virat and Rohit's intensity in training, execution perfect lesson: Abhimanyu Easwaran

Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan and all-rounder Hardik Pandya are being touted as the captaincy options for Team India if Shreyas Iyer doesn’t get fit for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka in July.

India’s limited-overs specialists will head to the island nation to play three T20Is and as many ODIs against Sri Lanka in the second half of July. Interestingly, the big guns like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah among others will be in England for a five-match Test series.

"It is still not clear if Shreyas will recover fully and will be match-fit in time for tour of Sri Lanka. Normally, a surgery of this scale along with rest, extensive rehab and training to get back in shape takes around four months," a senior BCCI source privy to selection matters told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"In case Shreyas was available, he would have been the automatic choice for captaincy."

"Yes, Hardik hasn't been regularly bowling for MI or India in recent times. However, he is the man with x-factor and among options available. He is miles ahead of his peers in terms of being an impact performer. And who knows, maybe extra responsibility brings the best out of him."

Even though the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 has been postponed for the time being but the performances in the lucrative T20 tournament continue to be a talking point in the cricketing world. While many players impressed with their outings in IPL 2021, Prithvi Shaw’s resurgence was one of the biggest highlights of the tournament.

The Delhi Capitals opener, who struggled to make a mark in IPL 2020, was back to his best as he gave solid starts to his franchise in the 14 th edition of the tournament. But when a player emerges from a shock – Shaw is an exceptional player – but even an ordinary player at any level finds it easy in his first year, but when the second year comes – if he can surpass it, he can leave everyone behind," Jadeja told Cricbuzz.

Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga could make a comeback to the national team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, national selection committee chairman Pramodya Wickramasinghe said while adding that the selectors are set to have talks with the veteran fast bowler.

"We will talk to Lasith soon. He is in our plans for the forthcoming T20 tours, including the T20 World Cup coming up in October," said Wickramasinghe.

"We are working out a long-term plan aiming at the 2023 (50-over) World Cup. There, our main focus is to adjust ourselves to forming an accurate average in terms of two main aspects. Those are the age and the fitness," Wickramasinghe told Morning Sports.

Malinga had announced his retirement from ODI cricket and was released by his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2021 auctions. However, he continues to remain the leading wicket-taker in IPL history with 170 scalps in 122 matches.

"Lasith is also in our plans. We always should not forget that he is one of the greatest bowlers in our country even in his present form. His records speak for that. There are two back-to-back T20 World Cups that are coming up, this year and next year. We are going to discuss our plans with him when we meet him in the next couple of days," said Wickramasinghe, a former Sri Lanka pace bowler.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month Awards for April which recognise and celebrate the best performances from both male and female cricketers across all forms of international cricket throughout the year.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April 2021, for his consistent and outstanding performances across all formats in the recently concluded series against South Africa and was chosen as the April winner by fans and the ICC voting academy.

Babar's match-winning 82-ball 94 in the third ODI against South Africa helped him gain 13 rating points to reach a career-best 865 points. He also contributed 122 from 59 balls in Pakistan’s successful chase in the third match of a T20I series against the same opposition.

Commenting on Azam’s performance in April, Ramiz Raja representing the ICC Voting Academy said: “The world bats in two ways in white ball cricket. India to field white-ball specialists for Sri Lanka tour in July: Sourav Ganguly

Former India captain Rahul Dravid has predicted the score-line of the upcoming Test series between England and India. Team India will play five-match Test series against England in August-September after the conclusion of the much-awaited ICC World Test Championship final, scheduled to be played in Southampton, against England in June.

Dravid predicted that the series will be “tough” but said that he believes that India have a very good chance to defeat the Joe Root-led side. Notably, Dravid was the last Indian captain to win a Test series on England soil in the year 2007.

However, Dravid questioned England’s batting line-up and said they have only two word-class batsmen in Joe Root and Ben Stokes. The living legend further added that no team has had better preparation heading into England series as the Virat Kohli and Co. would be spending almost a month in preparation following the conclusion of the World Test Championship final.

They have a lot of players to pick and choose from and that's going to be terrific.

"But if you look at their top six or top seven, you really think of one great batsman, a world-class batsman who is Joe Root. Obviously, Ben Stokes is another one, who is a good all-rounder, but for some reason [R] Ashwin seems to do well against him. And that should be an interesting contest. I know he's done well against him [Stokes] in India, but it'll still be an interesting subplot to the series.

"But I just think India will be well-prepared, have the confidence from Australia, there's lot of belief in the squad. A couple of players have been to England a few times, there's a lot of experience in the batting order this time around, so this is probably our best chance, maybe say 3-2 to India."

The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has cleared the air surrounding the postponed IPL 2021 as he said that there is no window for IPL 2021 in between the WTC final and England series as the Indian team will play Sri Lanka for three ODI and five T20Is.

“No (on playing IPL 2021 in between WTC final and England series). India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organisational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It can’t happen in India. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL,” Ganguly told Sportstar.

The BCCI drew widespread criticism for continuing with the IPL 2021 at a time when India is battling with the devastating second wave of COVID-19. While many had called for an early suspension of the T20 tournament, the BCCI eventually postponed it after the virus hit the players inside the bubble. Should it have been called off earlier?

“You can say that now in hindsight that the IPL should have been called off earlier. Mumbai and Chennai (legs) did not have cases. Only when the IPL reached Delhi and Ahmedabad did the cases rise. People will say a lot of things in any case. The English Premier League had so many people affected. But they could reschedule the matches. But you can’t do that with IPL. You stop it for seven days and it is done. Players go back home and then the process of quarantine starts from scratch,” Ganguly told the same publication.

Can IPL 2021 be played in between WTC final and England series? Sourav Ganguly responds

Australian legend Ian Chappell reckons that the suspension of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 came as a reminder of cricket’s vulnerability as he didn’t rule out the scope of shifting the upcoming T20 World Cup from India owing to the devastating COVID-19 pandemic.

The IPL 2021 was postponed indefinitely earlier this week after multiple members tested positive for the dreaded virus inside the bio-secure bubble.

India is fighting a terrifying second wave of COVID-19 pandemic with over 400,000 cases being reported on a daily basis. The country is scheduled to host the T20 World Cup later in the year but a change of venue is on the cards.

Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has been pretty vocal about a possible return from international retirement after calling it quits in 2018. De Villiers, regarded as one of the finest batsmen to play the game, last played against Australia, in a Test match, in March-April 2018 and has since only featured in franchise cricket.

De Villiers’ super performances in franchise cricket and especially for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL has always triggered opinions that he retired too early from international cricket. In April, South Africa head coach Mark Boucher hinted towards de Villiers’ South Africa comeback in the T20 World Cup and even the swashbuckling right-handed batsmen gave a positive reaction to it.

“It will be fantastic to play for South Africa again, I will be speaking with Boucher late end of IPL – last year, he asked me whether I am interested and I said ‘absolutely’,” de Villiers had said in an IPL press conference.

Now, Cricket South Africa Director Graeme Smith has also hinted towards AB de Villiers’ comeback in international cricket along with the likes of Imran Tahir and Chris Morris.

“AB is different discussion as he is retired and whether he comes out of retirement is an ongoing discussion,” Smith was quoted as saying by Sport24.

“In terms of free agents, they are always available. They play in T20 leagues around the world and are gaining more experience in the format than most. We have seen the success the West Indies have had with that policy, so it would be considered by selectors. The Team India squad for the much-awaited ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, which will be played against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, is likely to be picked on Friday (May 7).

While not many changes are expected in the Indian Test squad, which played against New Zealand, there are talks over whether to leave Hardik Pandya out, due to him not being able to bowl full-tilt. The Chetan Sharma-led Indian selection committee is expected to pick a jumbo squad consisting of four openers, five middle-order batsmen, around nine pacers and three wicket-keepers, according to reports.

However, the exact size of the Indian squad will depend on BCCI advisory on whether to select the squad for just the WTC final or for the five-Test series against England.

The final of the World Test championship will be held from June 18 to 22 with a reserve day.

India Test squad for WTC final to be selected soon, selectors likely to mull over Hardik, Shaw

A number of English counties have offered to host the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season in the month of September. IPL 2021 was been postponed indefinitely owing to the rising cases of COVID-19 across teams.

The MCC, Surrey, Lancashire, Warwickshire – based at Lord’s – the Kia Oval (London), Edgbaston (Birmingham) and Old Trafford (Manchester) are part of the group of County clubs to have written to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) while inviting them to extend the opportunity to the BCCI, according to ESPNCricinfo.

The plan is to complete the postponed IPL 2021 in around two weeks in the second part of September.

Apart from completing the T20 tournament, the County clubs have pointed out that top players will get high-quality cricket ahead of the T20 World Cup and will ensure the pitches in the UAE are fresh. Notably, UAE is being tipped as an alternate host for IPL 2021.

Moreover, the counties are hoping that the games could be played in front of packed crowds.

However, there are a few hurdles to the plan, as stated in the report. While it is hard to predict what the pandemic will bring next, there is still some time before any final call is taken on the T20 World Cup hosting. The quarantine issue of bringing players and staff from around the world into the UK will be a major challenge. But with a number of Indian players being in the UK at the time for the Test series against England, could be helpful.

However, the counties are hoping that a window could be managed with some flexibility.

IPL 2021: CSK's Michael Hussey, L Balaji air-lifted to Chennai from Delhi

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was indefinitely postponed on Tuesday due to the multiple COVID-19 cases across teams. While fans and pundits have questions the BCCI for keeping multiple venues for the T20 tournament at a time when India is fighting the second wave of the coronavirus, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has said that they would have held the IPL 2021 overseas had they knew this situation was going to arise.

Dhumal said that the series between India and England boosted the confidence that IPL 2021 could be held in multiple venues in India and the board wanted to boost the spirit of the country through the IPL.

The BCCI treasurer further said that no one imagined such a situation would arise and everyone was quite confident of pulling off the tournament.

“In a normal scenario, we would have had more venues, like Indore and Pune. They also used to host IPL games. When we were conducting the England series, everything went so smoothly that we thought that it’s time to take cricket back to each zone. At least, the main centres of India,” Dhumal told the Indian Express.

“The IPL should have been played in all areas. We all thought that after what the country went through in 2020, the IPL will boost the spirit of the country. We conducted a dummy run and planned out things. When the England series was conducted in Ahmedabad, Chennai and Pune, the situation was far better. Had we known, we could have held the IPL overseas. It was during the time when things were getting normal that we took the call. Since the postponement, the biggest question being asked to the BCCI is what was the need of conducting the IPL in multiple venues? Could it have been played in a single venue?

When we started, Mumbai was the worst- affected city. Then too, there would have been criticism. At that point of time, this was the best option we had,” Dhumal explained.

While some of the players have already returned back to their bases, there are a few still waiting for the quarantine to be over. Dhumal said the BCCI is still standing by its word that IPL isn’t over until the participants reach their homes safe and secure.

“We stand by our word that for us, the IPL is not complete until our players and officials reach their homes safe and secure. We are working on that and will come out with a detailed plan in two days,” Dhumal quipped.

When asked when the fans can expect the IPL 2021 to resume, Dhumal said they haven’t discussed anything about a potential window in future and want to focus on players’ return.

“We haven’t discussed anything as all our focus is now on ensuring players, support staff and officials reach home safely. When a window is available, we will hold it,” Dhumal said.

With India going through a deadly second wave of COVID-19, some countries, including Australia, have banned travelers from flying back to their nation from India. However, eight out of 11 England players flew back last night and landed in London on Wednesday morning.

Only three England players – Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan and Eoin Morgan – are still in India and expected to leave India within the next 48 hours.

"I can confirm that 8 of the 11 England players in India managed to get on a flight to Heathrow last night and have landed this morning. They will now quarantine in government-approved hotels. The remaining three -- - Chris Jordan, David Malan (both Punjab Kings) and Eoin Morgan (Kolkata Knight Riders) should leave India within the next 48 hours," an ECB spokesman confirmed to WION.

On Wednesday, CSK’s Michael Hussey’s second test result came positive.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are in touch with the BCCI and IPL officials, the UK government, and the individual players over the safe return of 11 England cricketers after the 14th edition of the T20 tournament was postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 cases across teams.

The BCCI was forced to suspend IPL 2021 indefinitely on Tuesday following positive cases at four of the eight franchises.

The English players are set to face significant obstacles on their way back. The UK government regulation insists on a 10-day hotel quarantine for those returning from India whereas the UAE is not accepting flights from India.

The return of 11 English players could change the selection of the team for their visit to New Zealand for two Tests.
