The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to lose over INR 2000 crore (US$ 217 million) of the broadcast and sponsorship money from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which was indefinitely postponed on Tuesday owing to a rise in COVID-19 cases across teams.<o:p></o:p>

The BCCI was forced to postpone the IPL 2021 after multiple cases of COVID-19 were reported among players and support staff from Ahmedabad and New Delhi in the last couple of days. <o:p></o:p>

“We would be losing anything between Rs 2000 to Rs 2500 crore for the midway postponement of this season. I would say something in the range of Rs 2200 crore will be closer to accurate estimation,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.<o:p></o:p>

The 60-match T20 tournament was set to conclude on May 30 in Ahmedabad. However, the postponement came after 29 completed matches as the dreaded virus halts the T20 tournament.<o:p></o:p>

The biggest deficit for the BCCI is the money from Star Sports – for the broadcast rights – of the tournament.<o:p></o:p>

If the host broadcaster pays the amount on a per match basis then it would be around INR 1580 crore out of the INR 3270 crore for the full tournament.<o:p></o:p>

If Star pays per match, then the amount for 29 matches would be Rs 1580 crore approximately out of what would have been Rs 3270 crore for a full tournament. This means a loss of Rs 1690 crore for the Board.<o:p></o:p>

Similarly, the BCCI is likely to get less than the half amount agreed with mobile manufacturers VIVO – IPL’s title sponsors. Additionally, more sponsors like Unacademy, Dream11, CRed, Upstox, and Tata Motors, who pay in the range of Rs 120 crore each. Some subsidiary sponsors are also there.<o:p></o:p>

“Slash all the payments by half or a bit less and you will be reaching a loss in the range of 2200 crore. The actual losses could be much more but this is a back of the hand calculation for the season,” the official said.<o:p></o:p>

Delhi Capitals told to quarantine as COVID-19 hits IPL 2021

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was rocked on Monday when two players from Kolkata Knight Riders – Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier – tested positive for COVID-19. The development forced the BCCI to reschedule the match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore, which was to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.<o:p></o:p>

While both Varun and Sandeep are isolating after testing positive, all other KKR members have returned negative. However, KKR are strictly following the SOPs and have quarantined all the players and members in their respective hotel rooms. <o:p></o:p>

KKR CEO and Managing Director, Venky Mysore, has now shed light on the situation as he said the franchise was quick to take the necessary precautions and bring the situation under control. <o:p></o:p>

"Difficult times, but I'm happy to report that both Varun and Sandeep are doing well," Mysore told Star Sports.

"We have taken all the precautions that are necessary and have been advised by the medical teams of IPL and KKR and also getting appropriate advice from outside on what the right thing to do is. Sandeep, in particular, is doing fine. No temperature, no other symptoms, and he is feeling good. Varun is still a little under the weather, but better than yesterday and both of them are in good spirits."<o:p></o:p>

KKR, including owner Shah Rukh Khan, joined the players and staff on a video call to boost everyone’s morale. The KKR CEO further said that players may return back to training on May 6 upon completing the quarantine.<o:p></o:p>

"I think everyone has been very proactive. We found out approximately 24 hours ago about Varun testing positive, so the immediate steps we took was to isolate him, and then later on in the night when we got test results which also involved Sandeep, we put them on a different floor with a different Air Conditioning ducts system to make sure others are appropriately protected. We have asked everybody in the bubble (players, support staff, management, hotel staff and service staff) to quarantine, so they are isolated in their rooms. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was rocked on Monday when two players from Kolkata Knight Riders – Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier – tested positive for COVID-19.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was rocked on Monday when two players from Kolkata Knight Riders – Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier – tested positive for COVID-19. The development forced the BCCI to reschedule the match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore, which was to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. While both Varun and Sandeep are isolating after testing positive, all other KKR members have returned negative. However, KKR are strictly following the SOPs and have quarantined all the players and members in their respective hotel rooms. KKR CEO and Managing Director, Venky Mysore, has now shed light on the situation as he said the franchise was quick to take the necessary precautions and bring the situation under control. "Difficult times, but I'm happy to report that both Varun and Sandeep are doing well," Mysore told Star Sports. Sandeep, in particular, is doing fine. No temperature, no other symptoms, and he is feeling good. Varun is still a little under the weather, but better than yesterday and both of them are in good spirits." KKR, including owner Shah Rukh Khan, joined the players and staff on a video call to boost everyone’s morale. The KKR CEO further said that players may return back to training on May 6 upon completing the quarantine. Speaking on the immediate steps in consultation with the officials and other governing bodies involved, Venky Mysore said: ALSO READ: Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman likely to leave IPL 2021 early "I think everyone has been very proactive. IPL 2021: KKR CEO Venky Mysore sheds light on situation as Varun, Sandeep test positive for COVID-19

England have said that their players participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 must make their own minds whether to carry playing the tournament as COVID-19 continues to ravage the nation. At least two franchises have been affected by the virus after KKR players – Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier – and CSK staff – L Balaji and bus cleaner – tested positive for COVID-19.<o:p></o:p>

The T20 tournament headed into turmoil on Monday with the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore being postponed after positive results.<o:p></o:p>

However, the IPL 2021 will, in all likelihood, continue and ECB remains concrete with their decision to not withdraw any of the 11 English players in the lucrative tournament. <o:p></o:p>

Instead, the ECB has given an option to carry on with the IPL 2021 or quit and face 10 days in quarantine before they can return to their homeland. <o:p></o:p>

“We continue to monitor and communicate with our players and staff currently in India,” said an ECB spokesperson as quoted by DailyMail.<o:p></o:p>

“In terms of continued participation it will be a decision taken by each individual. We acknowledge these are challenging times and our thoughts are with the people of India.”<o:p></o:p>

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Chakaravarthy recently left KKR’s bubble in Ahmedabad via the IPL ‘green channel’ to have a shoulder scan and it is being assumed that the spinner contracted the virus there.<o:p></o:p>

Bangladesh players Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman might have to return to their country from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 sooner than planned. The development comes due to the quarantine rule imposed by the Bangladesh health ministry, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board chief said on Monday. <o:p></o:p>

The new quarantine rule by the Bangladesh health ministry, which came into effect from May 1, states that travelers coming from India and South Africa will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine period before resuming work. BCB will need special permission from the Directorate General of Health Services to avail any relaxation on the new rule.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <o:p></o:p>

Earlier, BCB had reduced the quarantine for their foreign coaching staff and cricketers but the scale of the second COVID-19 wave reduces the chances of the same happening this time.

IPL 2021: After 2 KKR players, 3 members of CSK contingent test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka spinner Praveen Jayawickrama enjoyed a dream debut as he claimed 11 wickets to seal a 209-run victory over Bangladesh in the second Test at Pallekele on Monday.

Chasing a daunting 437 to win, Bangladesh were dismissed for 227 in the first session of the final day after resuming at 177-5 as Sri Lanka wrapped up the match, and the series 1-0, after 90 minutes of play.

The 22-year-old left-armer Jayawickrama was named player of the match after claiming 11-178 on his first Test appearance as he added five second-innings wickets to his six in the first.

Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis dismissed four batsmen as all 10 Bangladesh second-innings wickets were taken by slow bowlers. &nbsp;

Jayawickrama struck in the third over on Monday, taking his ninth wicket of the match when he trapped Liton Das lbw with a ball that went straight on and setting a Sri Lankan record for a Test debutant, surpassing Akila Dananjaya's 8-44 against the same opposition in Dhaka in 2018.

Mendis was replaced after a 15-over spell during which he took two wickets and the bowling change worked immediately as part-time spinner Dhananjaya de Silva struck with his second delivery. &nbsp;

Taijul Islam, on two, attempted a late cut, but only managed to edge it to wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella.

Mendis returned to have Taskin Ahmed caught by Dimuth Karunaratne off a top edge as the fielder moved to his left from cover point.

Jayawickrama then mopped up the tail. Mehidy Hasan fell first to take the young bowler's match haul into double figures, before Jayawickrama sealed the Test and the series three balls later when he trapped Abu Jayed leg before.&nbsp;

Jayawickrama is the 16th Test cricketer to take 10 wickets or more on debut but only the second this century after Australia's Jason Krejza, who took 12 wickets against India at Nagpur in 2008.

Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne was named player of the two-match series for scoring 428 runs in three innings.

The first Test was drawn after an avalanche of runs, the two sides scoring 1,289 for the loss of just 17 wickets over the five days.

Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis dismissed four batsmen as all 10 Bangladesh second-innings wickets were taken by slow bowlers. Mendis was replaced after a 15-over spell during which he took two wickets and the bowling change worked immediately as part-time spinner Dhananjaya de Silva struck with his second delivery. Taijul Islam, on two, attempted a late cut, but only managed to edge it to wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella. Mendis returned to have Taskin Ahmed caught by Dimuth Karunaratne off a top edge as the fielder moved to his left from cover point. Jayawickrama then mopped up the tail. Mehidy Hasan fell first to take the young bowler's match haul into double figures, before Jayawickrama sealed the Test and the series three balls later when he trapped Abu Jayed leg before.

Lewis Hamilton delivered a flawless drive in his Mercedes to win the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday from his arch title rival Max Verstappen.

Seven-time world champion Hamilton's 97th Grand Prix triumph extended his early season lead over Red Bull's Verstappen in the Formula One drivers' standings to eight points.

In third place in Portimao was pole-sitter Valtteri Bottas in the other Mercedes with Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull in fourth.

"That was such a tough race physically and mentally. I didn't get a good start and also lost out at the restart but it was a great result in the end," said Hamilton.

"Today wasn't all perfect and we need to get ready now for the quick turnaround for Spain."

At a sun-drenched Algarve International Circuit Bottas led Hamilton from the two Red Bulls into the first corner.

By the end of lap one it was the safety car which led after the two Alfa Romeos collided, with Kimi Raikkonen's front wing littered across the straight after clipping Antonio Giovinazzi's car.

Bottas carefully controlled the rolling restart on lap seven but in his rearview mirror he will have seen Verstappen charge past Hamilton and into second.

<h2>- 'Sitting duck' -</h2>

"That a boy" was the pleased reaction on the team radio from the Red Bull pits.

But four laps later and a mistake by the Dutchman on turn 14 let Hamilton regain second, darting past on the inside with Verstappen snapping: "I'm just a sitting duck on the straight. It's unbelievable."

Hamilton hit the front with a superb sweeping move past Bottas at the start of lap 20, quickly establishing daylight between the Mercedes men.

Verstappen was the first of the leading group to pit on lap 36, with Bottas next, followed by Hamilton, with Perez yet to change tyres, in front.

With 13 laps left Hamilton pushed past Perez to regain control of the third leg of the record 23-race season, and from there the race was his to lose.

"I think Max made a mistake at some point and that was perfect. With Valtteri I had to make the move early on before the tyres were destroyed and I just managed to get him at turn one. Right on my limit. Great race," added Hamilton.

"We were not on top of it here but we'll see what we can do in Barcelona," said Verstappen, referring to next weekend's race in Spain.

Intrigue in the closing stages surrounded the question of who would end up with a potentially crucial point for the fastest lap.

Verstappen thought he'd clinched it only for his effort to be ruled out due to track limits with Bottas eventually taking the honours.

The Red Bulls are emerging as serious challengers to Mercedes' supremacy but the world champions have evidently worked hard to redress any imbalance in performance between the two teams.

And after three legs of the season it is Hamilton in his quest for a record eighth world crown that has won twice, adding this to his opening success in Bahrain, with Verstappen the winner in Imola.

Sitting third in the drivers' standings is Lando Norris for resurgent McLaren after the Briton took fifth on Sunday.

He came in ahead of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, with the Alpines of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso, Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) and the AlphaTauri of Pierre Gasly completing the top 10.

IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals humble Punjab Kings with well-constructed chase

Delhi Capitals on Sunday continued their dominating run of form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as they defeated Punjab Kings by seven wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. DC, with the win, move atop the IPL 2021 standings as they impress yet again under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant.<o:p></o:p>

Batting first, Punjab Kings, without KL Rahul, lost opener Prabhsimran Singh for 12 early in the innings. Chris Gayle, who smashed a six and four, was sent packing by Kagiso Rabada for 13. Making his IPL debut, world number one T20I batsman Dawid Malan struggled during his stay on the pitch and was dismissed by Axar Patel after a watchful 26 off 26 balls. <o:p></o:p>

The middle-order and lower-middle order for PBKS failed with the likes of Deepak Hooda (1), Shahrukh Khan (4), Chris Jordan (2) falling cheaply as DC bowlers ran riot. However, Mayank continued to flourish and scored a breathtaking 99 not-out off 58 deliveries laced by eight boundaries and four sixes, to take Punjab Kings to a competitive total of 166/6 in 20 overs.

IPL 2021: Shikhar Dhawan dominates again as Delhi Capitals defeat Punjab Kings

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen was full of praise for Mayank Agarwal, who slammed an unbeaten 99 on his captaincy debut for Punjab Kings, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.<o:p></o:p>

PBKS captain KL Rahul was rushed to the hospital for surgery after the batsman was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and Mayank was named the stand-in captain for the Punjab outfit. Mayank didn’t disappoint as he led his troops from the front and smashed 99 not-out off 58 deliveries to help PBKS post 166/6 in 20 overs. <o:p></o:p>

Mayank’s 99-run knock in 58 balls is the second-best score on a captaincy debut in IPL – next to Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson’s score of 119 which came against Punjab Kings earlier in IPL 2021.

"I think I said on commentary that captaincy can go one of two ways. You can either deal with it, that weight of expectations that clearly is just thrown straight amongst what you got to do for your team. It can create pressure, you start to worry about your players, your team," Pietersen said on Star Sports.<o:p></o:p>

"He also did not play the previous game and KL Rahul did so well so there has been so much pressure leading into this game. Yes, he has been playing so well and he is a quality player. But sometimes you do question yourself," he added.

Just breathtaking: Kevin Pietersen lauds Mayank Agarwal's 99-run knock on IPL captaincy debut

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday continued their torrid run of form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as the franchise lost their match against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Kane Williamson replaced David Warner as the captain of SRH but it didn’t change the fortune of the side as they suffered a 55-run defeat to RR.<o:p></o:p>

SRH dropped Warner from the playing XI but the batting line-up still failed to live up to the expectations. Kane Williamson was asked about whether Warner will be seen playing as a pure batsman in the upcoming matches in IPL 2021, to which the Kiwi said that they will have conversations around including him in the team while adding the Aussie is a world-class batsman. <o:p></o:p>

Rajasthan Royals, riding on Jos Buttler’s maiden T20 century, posted a 220/3 in 20 overs as the Englishman hammered the highest score by a RR batsman in IPL. However, SRH were dull in their chase and could manage just 165/8 in 20 overs.<o:p></o:p>

“A tough day. A very competitive total from RR. It was Jos' day and he was outstanding. With the bat, you do need to get a few things to go your way and when you're losing wickets it makes it all the harder to chase 220. We have had a lot of challenges over the last three weeks, but we need to make small adjustments and put in improved performances. Jos and Sanju were key, so we wanted Rashid to bowl as many deliveries as possible against them. It is a bit of character building for us, so we just need to swallow it and move ahead,” Williamson said in the post-match presentation on Star Sports.<o:p></o:p>

“This game can change quickly and it is a game of fine lines. We just need to be clear of what we want to do each day. [On leaving the fifth bowler for the end] It wasn't the initial plan, but we wanted to use our resources and it was a decision we had to make. Those are the risks you need to take and not let the game just unfold. Exceptional batting from Rajasthan, you just have to tip your hats off to them. There are a number of leaders in the group. It's important we stay tight. And for us it about building as a side and make adjustments. Rather than over-search for the win, we just have to be clear about how we need to operate. Warner is a world-class player, the cards are on the table and I am sure there are a number of conversations to be had,” he added.<o:p></o:p>

'World-class player': Kane Williamson opens up on David Warner's exclusion from SRH playing XI

Sunrisers Hyderabad not only removed David Warner as the captain of the team but also dropped him from the playing XI for the match against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday. "It was evident that SRH is being controlled by someone from the outside – coach, management, whoever. But the captain Warner was not in full control," Jadeja said on Cricbuzz.

Buttler hammered 124 runs off just 64 deliveries – the highest total for Rajasthan Royals – as they set Sunrisers Hyderabad a target of 221 in what was a belter of a pitch to bat on.<o:p></o:p>

Regarded as one of England’s best ever white-ball batsman, Buttler had never reached the century mark in the shortest format of the game. After his maiden century in T20 cricket, Buttler said he struggled to time the ball at the start of his innings and tried to hang in there before finding his mojo.<o:p></o:p>

“Really enjoyed it. Great to spend time out there and have fun. I didn't find it easy at the start. I haven't been feeling in my best form for a while now. so a little bit of a struggle and just acceptance. I just tried to hang in there. At times I have been guilty of trying to get back into form too quickly and not give myself a chance. I just got better as the innings went on,” Buttler told Star Sports after the first innings.

“The mindset against Rashid was to just try and stay out there. He's had my number for a long time, so thankful to not get out to him. I have spent a lot of my career in the middle order where hundreds aren't easy to come by. At the top of the order you get a great chance. I finally will have Alastair Cook stop telling me that he has got one T20 hundred more than me (laughs). It is obviously a great score. We saw how MI chased it down yesterday, it is a small ground with a quick outfield and SRH have some fantastic players. We'll have to execute our plans really well,” the Rajasthan Royals batsman added.<o:p></o:p>

ALSO READ: IPL 2021: Netizens react after David Warner gets dropped against Rajasthan Royals “The mindset against Rashid was to just try and stay out there. We'll have to execute our plans really well,” the Rajasthan Royals batsman added.

Mumbai Indians on Saturday defeated Chennai Super Kings by four wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi as the five-time IPL winners chased down a mammoth 219, courtesy of a herculean effort with the bat by Kieron Pollard.

Batting first, Chennai Super Kings posted a mammoth total of 218/4 in 20 overs with Ambati Rayudu standing out among others with a blistering knock of 72 off just 27 deliveries laced with four boundaries and seven sixes.

While opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (4) was dismissed for cheap by Trent Boult in what was a superb spell with the new ball, Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali scored 50 and 58 respectively to take CSK to 112 in just 10 overs. CSK lost du Plessis, Ali and Suresh Raina (2) in quick succession but the herculean knock by Rayudu supported by Ravindra Jadeja (22 not-out), helped CSK post a 218 – their highest total against arch-rivals MI.&nbsp;

Interestingly, Jasprit Bumrah conceded 56 runs against CSK in his four-over quota – the most expensive figure in IPL for the ace speedster. Kieron Pollard picked up two wickets for MI whereas Bumrah and Boult ended up with a scalp each.
Chasing 219, Mumbai Indians enjoyed a brisk start as openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock connected well early in the innings.

However, Shardul Thakur was quick to remove the MI skipper early in his spell. De Kock was sent packing by Moeen Ali while in-form Ravindra Jadeja got rid of Suryakumar Yadav (3).&nbsp;

Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard smashed some lusty blows before Hardik Pandya smashed a few in a brief cameo. However, Pollard continued with his blitz and took MI over the winning line with a stunning knock of 87 not-out of 34 balls.
CSK bowlers did well to change till the 15-over mark but lost the plot as soon as Pollard started dominating the show.

Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered their second defeat in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Friday as Punjab Kings defeated the Virat Kohli-led outfit by 34 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While it was another disappointing outing with the willow for skipper Kohli, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg has said that the Bengaluru outfit cannot expect Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers to bail them out every time.<o:p></o:p>

The troika of Kohli, Maxwell and AB de Villiers failed to perform against PBKS as Harpreet Brar, playing his first match of IPL 2021, sent the three batsmen packing back to the hut. The RCB batting collapsed miserably and fell short by 34 runs. <o:p></o:p>

"RCB going at 6 an over after 10 overs with only the loss of 1 wicket chasing 179 was not ideal. Yes you have Maxwell and de Villiers to come, but you can't expect them to pick up the pieces all the time," Hogg said on Twitter.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is, for the second consecutive season, being played behind closed doors owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the last edition was played in the UAE, the ongoing edition is being held in India, but with empty stands and stadiums. Big-hitting Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell, said he misses the feeling of playing in front of the crowd as it brings out the fire inside. <o:p></o:p>

“I miss playing in front of crowds and especially Eden, where I know thousands of people got your back. That keeps me going. And it brings out the fire inside. The loud cheer, even before I face the first ball when I start running onto the crease, those vibes are unreal,” Russell said in the KKR’s latest release called Russell: The Knight of Eden.<o:p></o:p>

The West Indies all-rounder was slapped with a doping ban in 2017 and went on to miss the IPL and all formats of the game for a year. However, the setback didn’t affect Russell’s motivation as he said the ban made him stronger while adding that the KKR management wanted him to relax and focus on cricket.<o:p></o:p>

“To be honest, that year was the toughest year. When you're doing well, sometimes people look for any reason to try and get it down. But that actually made me stronger. You know, Venky (Mysore) reached out to me, said they just want me to have a peaceful year to relax my head and to actually focus on cricket.

Many footballers face rather difficult times when they need to go under the knife to correct injuries sustained on the pitch. It is not only the physical recovery that they have to deal with, but they are also constantly mindful of the uncertainty of the recovery process, and how long it could take.

However, even in such trying times, the ‘Beautiful Game’ has its own way of bringing people together. Bangladesh National Football Team striker Nabib Newaj Jibon had come across the border to Kolkata for surgery earlier in April, only to find a guardian angel in someone who he barely knew prior to this trip to the ‘City of Joy.’

“I never really knew Pritam-da (Kotal, India National Team defender) personally, before this trip to Kolkata,” Jibon said to aiff.com.

"Yes, I had heard about him. I have played against him for my National Team. But we were never properly acquainted.”

In fact, it was one of Jibon’s teammates from the National Team, Raihan Hasan, who introduced the Bangladesh striker with the Blue Tigers defender.

“I’ve been well acquainted with Mamunul-bhai (Islam) and Raihan. In fact, it was Raihan, who took a lot of initiative and approached me about Jibon. I was told that he was coming to Kolkata, and requested me to look after him during his stay here,” said Pritam.

Pritam instantly agreed to help out his fellow footballer from across the border. “Of course, if someone comes across the border, we need to take care of him. We may be from different countries, but at the end of the day we are all from the footballing community, and we need to take care of each other,” said Pritam.

“He’s like a brother from across the border.”

Once Jibon was in Kolkata, he had set up at a hotel that was quite close to Pritam’s house, and the latter, along with his girlfriend Sonela Paul left no stone unturned to help Jibon.

“Pritam-da and Sonela-di both provided so much support when I was there in Kolkata,” Jibon mentioned. “The main thing that they provided me was the mental support. That was very important -- especially because I was in a city where I did not know anybody.”

“They used to visit me every day at the hospital, and at my hotel. I could not move around much after my surgery. But they would often come around and get different things for me – whatever I’d require. They’d even check on whether I’ve had my meals properly every day, and that meant a lot,” Jibon continued.

While Pritam could not go visit Jibon towards the end of the latter’s stay due to certain COVID-safety protocols in his locality, it was Sonela who stepped up and made sure that the Bangladesh striker was able to get back across the border, despite the fact that his flight was cancelled.

Pritam sent his driver and his car along with Sonela, to pick up Jibon and take him all the way to the India-Bangladesh border in Benapole, near the town of Bongaon.

“We also contacted the Petrapole immigration authorities and, got a permission from them. The BSF at Benapol also helped a lot. They reached in the morning, but there was a long wait till the evening, and finally he was allowed to cross the border,” said Pritam. “There were some difficulties, but the good thing is that the surgery was successful, and that he was able to get back across the border without much hassle.”

Jibon’s club Basundhara Kings are set to play against Pritam’s side ATK Mohun Bagan in the AFC Cup in May, whereas Bangladesh are set to play India in the World Cup Qualifier in Qatar, later this year. While the now recovering Jibon may be out of contention for both the matches, the two footballers who had forged a strong friendship in this short period of time, are looking forward to face each other on the pitch once again.

“Since his operation was successful, I’d very much like to see him return to the pitch soon. Even if he can’t return in time for the AFC Cup matches, it’s not that big a deal. I just hope that he gets well soon and can return to the pitch. It will be great to play against him. I pray to God for his speedy recovery,” said Pritam.

Bangladesh National Football Team striker Nabib Newaj Jibon had come across the border to Kolkata for surgery earlier in April, only to find a guardian angel in someone who he barely knew prior to this trip to the ‘City of Joy.’ “I never really knew Pritam-da (Kotal, India National Team defender) personally, before this trip to Kolkata,” Jibon said to aiff.com. "Yes, I had heard about him. I have played against him for my National Team. But we were never properly acquainted.” In fact, it was one of Jibon’s teammates from the National Team, Raihan Hasan, who introduced the Bangladesh striker with the Blue Tigers defender. “He’s like a brother from across the border.” Once Jibon was in Kolkata, he had set up at a hotel that was quite close to Pritam’s house, and the latter, along with his girlfriend Sonela Paul left no stone unturned to help Jibon. “Pritam-da and Sonela-di both provided so much support when I was there in Kolkata,” Jibon mentioned. “The main thing that they provided me was the mental support. That was very important -- especially because I was in a city where I did not know anybody.” ALSO READ: Sport unites for social media boycott against online abuse “They used to visit me every day at the hospital, and at my hotel. “There were some difficulties, but the good thing is that the surgery was successful, and that he was able to get back across the border without much hassle.” Jibon’s club Basundhara Kings are set to play against Pritam’s side ATK Mohun Bagan in the AFC Cup in May, whereas Bangladesh are set to play India in the World Cup Qualifier in Qatar, later this year.

Delhi Capitals will look to keep up their momentum when they take on each of the franchises for the second time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The Delhi Capitals, who defeated&nbsp;Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in their previous game on Thursday, have won five out of seven matches in the ongoing season.

Speaking about the team's performance in the competition so far, the JSW and GMR co-owned franchise&nbsp;opening batsman&nbsp;Shikhar Dhawan said, "We are performing very well as a team this season. We have won five out of seven matches, so we are in a pretty good position at the moment. The good thing is that the entire team is doing well, and we are not depending on any one individual. There has always been someone who has taken the responsibility to win matches for us. We have a strong side, and I am glad that we are in this position at the moment."

Dhawan had the best seat in the house when his opening partner&nbsp;Prithvi Shaw struck six fours in an over against KKR. The 35-year-old said that&nbsp;Prithvi showed a lot of courage during his innings of 82 runs from 41 balls, "It was lovely to see Prithvi strike six boundaries in one over in the last game. We got 25 runs in the first over and the game was over there itself. He made the game easy for me as I didn't have to take any risks. Prithvi was in a good flow, and he backed himself to continue scoring runs in that flow, which I think shows a lot of courage he has as a batsman. His innings of 80-odd is bigger than many centuries because the manner in which he got the runs was of a different class altogether.

The Delhi Capitals are set to take on Punjab Kings in their next match here at the&nbsp;Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, 02 May 2021. Dhawan expressed that the Delhi franchise is looking forward to registering another win in the competition, "The Punjab Kings are a good side. We cannot take any team in the IPL lightly. We have to make sure that we give our best and implement our plans properly every time we step on the field. They are playing well at the moment, and we respect that, but at the same time we are looking forward to beating them and win another match in our campaign."

Brar cleaned up Kohli before beating the defence of Maxwell as he castled him in successive deliveries. In the next over, Brar scalped the in-form de Villiers as the Mr 360 hit the ball straight to the hands of Rahul at short extra cover. The Punjab Kings all-rounder finished with three wickets while conceding just 19 runs.

In the match, Punjab Kings posted 179/5 after a flourishing knock by KL Rahul as the skipper got support from Chris Gayle and later Brar. Chasing 180, RCB kept losing wickets and fell off the chase early in their innings. While there were plenty of match-winners for RCB, none performed well to take the team over the winning line as they fell short by 34 runs to concede their second defeat in IPL 2021. <o:p></o:p>
