Andre Russell's all-round brilliance theoretically kept Kolkata Knight Riders in contention for a play-off berth as they recorded a comprehensive 54- run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a must-win IPL game on Saturday.

It was Russell's unbeaten 49 off 28 balls that took KKR to 177 for six in 20 overs after being down and out at 94 for 5.

In reply, SRH were never in the hunt as they huffed and puffed their way to 123 for 8 against a collective bowling effort from Shreyas Iyer's men with the flamboyant Jamaican finishing with best figures of 3 for 22.

Umesh Yadav (1/19 in 4 overs), Tim Southee (2/23 in 4 overs), Varun Chakravarthy (1/25 in 4 overs) and Sunil Narine (1/34 in 4 overs) -- all stuck to their respective game plans with near-perfect executions over after over.

KKR now have 12 points from 13 games with a net run-rate of +0.160 and moved to sixth place.

With Rajasthan Royals (14 from 12) and RCB (14 from 13 games) having chance to move up, even a victory is unlikely to be enough for Shah Rukh Khan owned franchise which played its 13th 'first XI' combination in as many games.

For Sunrisers, 10 points from 12 games with a dismal NRR of -0.270 means that even two big wins and 14 points might not be enough after five straight defeats.

While he is a sentimental favourite among Indian cricket lovers, a lot of SRH's poor batting show could be attributed to skipper Kane Williamson's nightmarish season that has yielded only 208 runs in 12 games at an average of less than 19 and a strike-rate of 92.85.

Williamson (9 off 17 balls) has been SRH's weakest link this season and his failure at the top of the order has been one of the biggest reasons for their slump.

It was an ordeal for Williamson till Russell bowled one on the stumps to end his misery. Rahul Tripathi (9 off 1 balls) also looked scratchy even as Abhishek Sharma (43 off 28 balls) attacked Sunil Narine, hitting him for two sixes.

It was Tim Southee's brilliant reflex return catch that ended Tripathi's innings.

At the halfway stage, SRH weren't in a very comfortable position at 66 for two and even the statistic of teams chasing (highest successful chase of 170) at the Gahunje Stadium didn't paint an altogether rosy picture.

Once Abhishek was dismissed by Varun Chakaravarthy (1/25) and Narine took a fine return catch to dismiss SRH's big hope Nicholas Pooran (2), there wasn't much resistance from the rest of the batters.

Earlier, Umran Malik was back in his groove after a few forgettable outings as he ran through KKR's top-order but Russell along with Sam Billings (34 off 29 balls) added 63 runs for the sixth wicket to give the total a semblance of respectability after KKR were in trouble at 94 for 5.

KKR added 58 runs in the last five overs, mainly due to Russell as he hit three sixes off three full-tosses bowled by off-break bowler Washington Sundar (0/40 in 4 overs).

Malik (3/33 in 4 overs), who had gone for 120-odd runs in his last 10 overs (across 3 games) and that too wicketless, was back in his element as he bowled fast and straight to get rid of Nitish Rana (26 off 16 balls), Ajinkya Rahane (28 off 23 balls) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (15 off 9 balls) in his first two overs to peg back KKR.

He did get good support from T Natarajan (1/43), who nailed the block-hole deliveries with perfection, getting rid of Rinku Singh (5).

Venkatesh Iyer's "second season blues" continued as he chopped one from Marco Jansen (1/30 in 4 overs) onto the stumps.

As far as Rahane is concerned, he has well past his IPL sell-by date and even three sixes couldn't hide the fact that he played a lot of dot balls and once he started cramping, it became even more difficult to rotate the strike.

Finally he was out when he slashed hard at a wide rising delivery and Shashank Singh at sweeper cover fence maintained perfect body balance in a side on position to latch on to the catch.

Russell and Billings then took the attack back to the opposition camp with some big blows after initial period of struggle.

While the Jamaican had three fours and four sixes to his name, Billings hit three fours and one maximum.

IPL 2022: Kolkata Knight Riders 'stay alive' on paper after 54-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist, who shared a long relationship with late all-rounder Andrew Symonds, said that the all-rounder was full of life and a "real heart and soul type of guy" who could make everyone laugh.

Symonds, a two-time World Cup winner, died in a car crash on Saturday night. He was the sole passenger in the crash just outside of Townsville in his home state of Queensland and police confirmed that the former cricketer died at the scene of the mishap.

Gilchrist, who played alongside Symonds in most of the all-rounder`s 26 Tests and 198 ODIs with the duo achieving great success both with the red and white ball under Ricky Ponting, added he was simply stunned by the news.

"Simply stunned, I can't believe we`re in this space again (in) the cricketing world," Gilchrist told SEN on Sunday. "Anyone that had anything to do with `Symo` knew exactly what he was like, he was one of the good guys, a real heart and soul type of guy that really made you happy -- he just lit up the room wherever he was. He is just going to be so sorely missed."

Giving an insight into Symonds` life, Gilchrist said that while he wouldn`t call the all-rounder a practical joker but his ability to come up with funny comments endeared him to his fellow players.

"I wouldn`t say so much a practical joker, but he just seemed to find a funny line or a funny comment at any given time," Gilchrist said. "He was a true work hard and play hard (person), I think we all saw that. There was almost a beautiful naivety to a lot of things and innocence.

"He was so knowledgeable in the game of cricket, a whole lot more knowledgeable and articulate than what people might give him credit for. That was starting to shine through in his commentary, his ability to read the game and to know what was going to happen... it was amazing, it was an asset and a skill that Ricky Ponting as captain drew on a lot more than people know."

Gilchrist also lauded Symonds` contribution to Australian cricket, saying that many a time he brought the team back from the brink of defeat to win the games for the side with his powerful hitting, crafty bowling and superb fielding.

"So many times he did save us, particularly when he was batting at five or six in One Day cricket," Gilchrist said. "It`s a bit of a rebuild type position, and the one that jumps straight to mind is the innings against Pakistan at Johannesburg in the opening match of the 2003 World Cup.

"We found ourselves in trouble, `Roy` went in at 4/80 or something and pulled off one of the great hundreds, that was the launch of an undefeated run at a World Cup. Without Roy`s innings in that game who knows what happens, he set the tone. That`s probably the innings that really springs to mind for me."

He was a real heart-and-soul type of guy: Adam Gilchrist devastated after Andrew Symonds' death

Former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds was known for his all-round exploits on the cricket field. A hard-hitting aggressive batter and a handy bowler, Symonds was an integral member of the Australian team across formats under former captain Ricky Ponting and played an instrumental role in their success.

Symonds passed away on Saturday (March 14) after a tragic car crash in Queensland, Australia. The former cricketer's car got off the road and rolled over while he was driving. He sustained grave injuries in the accident and passed away despite the efforts from emergency services to revive him.

Regarded as one of the finest all-rounders to have graced the game, Symonds endured several ups and downs in his career. However, his biggest low, as per the former all-rounder himself, came in the aftermath of the infamous Monkeygate scandal. The Monkeygate saga rocked world cricket during India's tour of Australia in 2008.

Symonds had accused former India spinner Harbhajan Singh of calling him a 'monkey' during a verbal altercation between the duo in the Sydney Test. The controversy soon took the cricketing world by storm as the Australian team complained to the umpire about Harbhajan having made a racist remark towards Symonds.

Symonds had once revealed his life started going downhill post the Monkeygate scandal and that he started drinking heavily after the infamous saga. The incident was one of the lowest points in Symonds' international career and affected him adversely.

"From that moment on that was my downhill slide. I started to drink heavily as a result of it and my life was starting to dissolve around me felt the pressure and the weight of dragging those mates of mine into the cauldron of this cesspit that should never have got to this sort of point where we felt guilty," Symonds had said while opening about the controversy in a conversation with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Harbhajan was handed a three-match ban post the Monkeygate scandal. However, the Indian team stood in solidarity with the spinner and threatened to boycott the series which led to the ban getting reversed. Symonds said he felt guilty post the incident as he didn't want his teammates to be involved in the controversy.

"I was dealing with it the wrong way. I felt guilty that I'd dragged my mates into something I didn't think they deserved to be involved in," Symonds said.

Andrew Symonds, former Australian cricket all-rounder, dies in car crash

Top five records held by Australian cricket great Andrew Symonds

Former Indian cricket team wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta believes that the Chennai Super Kings pace duo of Mukesh Choudhury and Simarjeet Singh can represent the Indian cricket team in the future. While CSK have struggled in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, the fast bowlers have done well for them in absence of Deepak Chahar. The all-rounder, who was picked for INR 140 million in the mega auction, was ruled out of the entire tournament after picking up an injury.

“CSK has provided them enough opportunities, and they are known to make players and mentor them. Along with [Deepak] Chahar, MS Dhoni has certainly seen something in Mukesh Choudhary. In terms of mentoring, you can easily see the improvement in Simarjeet’s performance, in terms of confidence and body language. I think the likes of Mukesh and Simarjeet will be the frontline pacers for CSK and will have a very good chance to represent the country as well," he told Crictracker.

In the absence of their big-money signing Deepak Chahar, Mukesh became the first-choice fast bowler for CSK. The left-arm pacer has taken 16 wickets in 13 matches and although his economy rate is above 9, he has impressed everyone with his swing and also his athletic fielding prowess.

On the other hand, Simarjeet is a relatively newer addition to the CSK side as he made his debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 1 and in the five matches, he has taken three wickets.

CSK slumped to yet another defeat in the tournament as they were beaten by Gujarat Titans on Sunday.

The cricket fraternity was left mourning as the news of former Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds' tragic demise emerged. Symonds died in a tragic car crash in Queensland, Australia on Saturday (May 14). His car went off the road and rolled over while he was driving resulting in grave injuries to the former cricketer, who succumbed to death.

Australian cricket was yet to recover from the shock demise of the legendary Shane Warne and Rod Marsh but they lost another one of its heroes on Saturday. Marsh had passed away aged 74 in Marsh this year before Warne breathed his last after suffering a heart attack while holidaying in Thailand in the same month.

While Warne's last social media post was on Marsh's demise on Twitter, Symonds' last Instagram post was a tribute to his close friend Warne after his death. "Devastated, I’m hoping this is all a bad dream I just can’t get my head around never seeing you again. Love to all the Warne family I’m speechless," Symonds wrote in an Instagram post in March this year.

His car went off the road and rolled over while he was driving resulting in grave injuries to the former cricketer, who succumbed to death. RCB's collapse to LSG's surrender: Lowest team totals in IPL 2022 so far

Virat Kohli is likely to be rested from India's upcoming T20I series against South Africa at home following the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Kohli has been enduring a rough patch for his side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL this season and has been struggling to score runs consistently.

He has had a disappointing tournament so far with the bat having managed only one half-century in 12 matches for RCB. Kohli has bagged three golden ducks already this season and has only 216 runs to his name at a poor average of 19.64 and a strike rate of just over 111.

As per PTI, Kohli is set to be rested as he has been playing cricket for a long time now, the BCCI will also adopt a periodic resting policy for the senior players in the team. The senior players will be given adequate breaks to ensure they can manage their workload better in times of playing cricket in bio-bubbles due to COVID-19.

“Virat Kohli in all probability will be rested for the South Africa series. He has been playing a lot of cricket and has been in the bubble for a long time. It has been a policy decision regarding Kohli and other senior players that they will be given periodic breaks from time to time," a BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Brendon McCullum has reportedly informed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) that he will be stepping down as the head coach of the franchise following the conclusion of the ongoing season. McCullum has emerged as one of the favourites to take over as the new head coach of the England Test team.

As per BBC and reports in the British media, McCullum is likely to replace Chris Silverwood as the new Test coach of England and an official announcement is expected this week. Silverwood was fired by England earlier this year after their humiliating 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Australia in the Ashes 2021-22.

As per a report in the Indian Express, McCullum recently informed about his plans during a team meeting and revealed he will be taking over as coach of the England national team.

“He informed us that he won’t be part of KKR going ahead as he will be taking up a job as England cricket team coach. He informed us during a team meeting a few days ago,” a KKR insider was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

McCullum, who retired from cricket all forms of cricket in 2019, had taken over as the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders in August 2019. He was also appointed as the head coach of Caribbean Premier League franchise Trinbago Knight Riders in the same year.

KKR have an outside chance of making it to the playoffs this season if they manage to win their remaining two games by a big margin.

The 15th season of the IPL has seen plenty of young Indian stars light up the atmosphere with both bat and ball in hand. Here are some promising players for Team India in the future.

Top 5 young Indian finds in IPL 2022

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have enjoyed a terrific run so far in their debut campaign in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. LSG were one of the two teams who are drafted in the competition this year and have had a brilliant tournament under captain KL Rahul and mentor Gautam Gambhir.

LSG got off to a losing start in the tournament as they suffered a defeat in their opening game against Gujarat Titans. However, they were quick to stage a comeback and won 8 out of their next ten matches in the competition. With 8 wins in 11 games so far, LSG were placed at the top of the IPL 2022 points table heading into the game against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday (May 10).

Both the debutants LSG and Gujarat Titans have 16 points each in the tournament so far and the winner of Tuesday's contest between the two will become the first team to make it to the playoffs this season. Ahead of his side's clash against Gujarat Titans, Gambhir explained the reason behind his side's success in IPL 2022.

The former India opener credited work done at the auction as the major reason behind the team's stellar run stating how 50% of the job was done at the auction table. But Gambhir also explained it's not just about getting the players in but also their performances on the field matter.

"The auction is very important. 50% of the job is done on the auction table. It helps the management when you pick a good side. But as long as they don't perform on the field, it doesn't matter even if you pick the best possible players. The franchise is new but the players are not new. This is not an excuse as all the players are experienced," said Gambhir

Gambhir, who won two IPL titles as captain with his former IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also gave an insight about the dressing room atmosphere at LSG and said there is no her worshipping in the squad. Gambhir added there is only one monster which is the franchise itself and not any player.

"It helps all players come in with a clean slate and without any baggage. There is no better opportunity than playing for a new franchise and leaving a legacy from the start. The biggest secret to our success is that we have just one monster, and that is the franchise, LSG. There is no hero worship," said Gambhir.

" In T20s and in the IPL, you can't brush things under the carpet. The day you start feeling that you are doing extremely well, your downfall starts. Still, a lot to improve" he added.

While skipper Rahul has been among the runs and has led from the front with the bat, the likes of Deepak Hooda, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan and Quinton de Kock have been among the top performers for LSG and have played a huge role in their success so far this season.

With 16 points so far this season, LSG are all but certain to find a spot in the playoffs but they will be hoping to finish in the top two.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has backed his former teammate and Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma to bounce back to form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Rohit has not been in the best of form for the five-time champions, who have struggled for consistency and are already out of the race for the playoffs this season with only two wins in eleven matches so far this season.

Mumbai Indians got off to a woeful start in the league as they lost their first eight matches in a row before managing to bring an end to their losing streak against Rajasthan Royals to bag their maiden win. They went on to defeat Gujarat Titans in their next game before slipping to another huge loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in their last game on Monday.

Rohit's poor run with the willow continued in his side's last clash against KKR as he was once again dismissed cheaply. The Hitman was adjudged out controversially in the game as he could manage only 2 runs off 6 balls. Rohit has endured a rough patch with the willow this season as he has managed to amass only 200 runs in 11 matches at a shambolic average of 18.18. The Hitman is yet to score a fifty in this edition of the tournament.

England pacer Mark Wood believes players let down Joe Root as captain which led to him resigning from the post of England's Test skipper earlier this year. Calls for Root's sacking had grown after England lost a Test series against West Indies away from home to continue their woeful run in the longest format.

Root's decision came after a string of poor results for the England team in Tests both at home and away from home. England lost against New Zealand and India at home last year followed by a crushing 4-0 defeat against Australia in the Ashes 2021-22 Down Under. The defeat against West Indies came as the final nail in the coffin.

While Root was blamed by many for his poor leadership qualities and failure to inspire the side to bounce back from the poor run, Wood believes players too had a role to play in his decision to resign. Wood said there was a lot that Root was doing behind the scenes which went unnoticed.

The pacer also went on to reveal how Root would stay back to help him when Wood would bat in the nets. The England fast bowler said Root had done almost everything he could but the results were not going England's way in the longest format.

"I actually did really well under Joe's captaincy myself. He gave me an opportunity, even with injury, he could have quite easily have said, 'no, that’s enough'. But he's stuck with me and gave me a clear plan," Mark Wood told the Mirror.

"I felt like we let him down quite a bit. He was doing so much behind the scenes that people don't see. You know, getting coaches trying to change training. He was staying behind when I was batting the net.

"He would stay behind and work on batting with me after his net. He was doing so much with trying to get it right, the culture of the team, he was getting people in to do sessions and he did everything he could to try and improve the results but it just wasn't happening," he added.

Root has been replaced by star all-rounder Ben Stokes as the captain of the England Test team. Stokes has been one of the regulars for England across all formats and is easily one of the best all-rounders in the world at present. Wood admitted he didn't want Root to resign but is hopeful of Stokes doing a great job as captain.

"I didn't want that to happen to him. I really did believe he would turn it around, but it's exciting now having Stokes — I think he will do a great job," said Wood.

Also Read: Mumbai Indians star Suryakumar Yadav ruled out of IPL 2022 due to injury The pacer also went on to reveal how Root would stay back to help him when Wood would bat in the nets.

Devon Conway's blazing blade and Moeen Ali's effective off-breaks beautifully complemented each other as Chennai Super Kings outclassed Delhi Capitals in every department of the game, winning their IPL match by a comprehensive 91-run margin.

Put in to bat, Conway completed a hat-trick of half-centuries with a superb 87 off 49 balls to set up a winning score of 208 for 6 in 20 overs.

The scoreboard pressure was always mounting on Capitals as they finally managed 117 in 17.4 overs with Moeen (3/13 in 4 overs) taking wickets of Mitchell Marsh (25 off 20 balls) and skipper Rishabh Pant (21 off 11 balls) in quick succession to finish the contest.

Mukesh Choudhary (2/22 in 4 overs), Simarjeet Singh (2/27 in 4 overs) and Dwayne Bravo (2/24 in 2.3 overs) then completed the formalities as CSK are now up to eight points from 11 games and can earn a maximum of 14 points if they win their remaining three games, which unfortunately doesn't look like being enough for play-off qualification.

Delhi Capitals remain on fifth position with 10 points and will now need to win all three remaining games and also expect a few other results to favour them if they harbour any hopes of qualification.

What has been a major issue with DC's 2022 performance is lack of consistency. There are days when they are brilliant and then on other days less than ordinary with inept performances.

KS Bharat (8 off 5 balls) was playing his first game and can be excused but the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant have hardly done anything of note during the season and even 209 isn't a chaseable total eight out of 10 times, there wasn't a semblance of fight.

Pant was dismissed while trying to play against the turn while Marsh was holed out in the deep. By the time Rovman Powell was gone, the match was as good as over.

In fact, the track that looked as flat as a highway suddenly became difficult for strokeplay in the second half.

But when Conway was batting, it seemed like a walk in the park for CSK.

He hit seven fours and five sixes and also added 110 for the opening wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad (41 off 33 balls) to lay the foundation for a big score.

Conway added another 59 runs for the second wicket with Shivam Dube (32 off 19 balls) before MS Dhoni (21 no off 8 balls) added insult to DC's injuries at the fag end.

The South Africa-born New Zealander has been one of the key players for an ageing CSK side in transition and has responded nicely to captain Dhoni's call of being a like-for-like replacement of Faf du Plessis.

What makes Conway a standout performer among most overseas recruits is his mastery over spinners which is an absolute must to be a consistent success in IPL.

Whether CSK make it to play-off this time or not, Conway in all likelihood will be serving the franchise for the next five years at least.

Along with Gaikwad, Conway showed how aesthetically pleasing stroke-play can destroy the confidence of rival bowlers.

There weren't any lap-scoops, switch hits, reverse flicks but shots within the 'V' with immaculate use of feet wile negotiating the spinners. It did help that DY Patil Stadium track resembled a highway due to its flat nature.

Kuldeep Yadav's (3-0-43-0) length was completely in disarray as Conway repeatedly came down the ground to loft the deliveries with disdain.

If the delivery was flighted, Conway would come down the track and hit it down the ground or wide of long-on. If the bowler kept it flat, he would thump it through the covers and if it was fast an full, he would play the conventional sweep shot over deep square leg. The shot that stood out was a cover drive which was more like a slap with minimal back-lift.

Conway's third consecutive fifty came off 27 balls as poor Kuldeep had no clue as to what had hit him.

His deliveries were like cannon fodder as he was hit for four fours and two sixes in his first spell.

Conway repeated his 'dancing down the track' act in Kuldeep's second spell with another lofted six as DC bowlers were left short of answers on the day.

Jitesh has scored 162 runs in seven innings till now at an impressive strike rate of 167.0. Sehwag praised his performances and even compared his stroke play to VVS Laxman.

Not Ishan Kishan or Dinesh Karthik! Virender Sehwag names surprise wicketkeeper pick for T20 World Cup

Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga picked up a five-wicket haul after skipper Faf du Plessis' impactful half-century as Royal Challengers recorded a 67-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad to boost their play-off hopes in the IPL here on Sunday.

Opting to bat on a slow surface, du Plessis led from the front with a 50-ball 73 not out, while Dinesh Karthik (eight-ball 30 not out) provided the late flourish as RCB overcame an anxious start to post 192/3.

In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad were skittled out for 125 to crash to their fourth loss on the trot as Hasaranga stymied their chase with figures of 4-1-18-5.

The win also avenged their shocking nine-wicket loss to Hyderabad in the first leg at the Brabourne where Bangalore had collapsed to 68 allout.

Making amend for a sloppy outing on the field, Hasaranga cleverly used his wrong ones and derailed their chase in the middle overs with wickets of the hardhitting Nicholas Pooran and Jagadeesha Suchith in successive overs.

The Lankan then ended his spell in style with a double-wicket maiden, dismissing Shashank Singh and Umran Malik in successive deliveries to virtually seal it for Bangalore.

With this, he became the second bowler after Yuzvendra Chahal to get past the 20-wicket mark in the IPL. Hasaranga is now one wicket shy of current Purple Cap holder Chahal's tally of 22.

Hyderabad No 3 Rahul Tripathi made a fine 58 to keep them in the hunt but Josh Hazlewood (2/17) dismissed him and followed it up with the wicket of Kartik Tyagi next ball.

For Bangalore, it was their second win in a row, coming on the back of a hattrick of defeats as they firmed up their place inside top-four.

Likewise Bangalore, Hyderabad too had a jittery start and went on to lose two wickets in the first over in their tall chase of 193.

Like Kohli, Williamson also went for a golden duck in a rare instance -- only third in IPL -- that a wicket fell on the first ball of both the innings.

Earlier, Du Plessis slammed eight boundaries and two sixes en route to his third fifty this season and seized the initiative after he lost his opening partner Virat Kohli.

The South African veteran along with Rajat Patidar (48 in 38 balls; 4x4, 2x6) laid a solid foundation with a 105-run second wicket partnership off 73 balls.

But Hyderabad bowlers led by spinner Jagadeesha Suchith (2/30) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0/34) slowed things a bit in the middle overs before Dinesh Karthik gave a last-over flourish (25 runs) to prop up the total.

Making full use of a reprieve by Rahul Tripathi in the third ball of the final over, the Indian experienced wicketkeeper-batter went on to make a quickfire eight-ball 30 not out.

He smashed four sixes, three of them coming in succession followed by a boundary in the last over against Afghanistan debutant Fazalhaq Farooqi, en route to his entertaining cameo.

Hyderabad had their solitary moment of glory, the very first ball of the game when Kohli (0) got out for a third golden duck this season, sixth overall in IPL. This was also his second golden duck against the same team season.

Enduring his worst-ever IPL -- 216 runs from 12 innings at 19.6 -- Kohli had one soft dismissal off a Suchith half volley drifting onto his pads, and the star batter managed to flick it straight to Williamson at short midwicket.

It was all about RCB thereafter as Du Plessis and the young Patidar seized the momentum with their counter-attacking approach.

Hyderabad young speed merchant Umran Malik bowled back of the length on what was a slow pitch and the batters had all the time on offer to take him to cleaners in his first over that yielded 20 runs.

Well-settled Patidar however missed his fifty by two runs becoming Suchith's second victim, miscuing one in the 13th over.

Well-settled Patidar however missed his fifty by two runs becoming Suchith's second victim, miscuing one in the 13th over.

Cheteshwar Pujara continued his imperious form with a fourth successive hundred for Sussex against a quality Middlesex attack that had Pakistan international Shaheen Shah Afridi in its ranks.

Pujara was very attacking throughout the innings and it only helped that the pitch at Sussex's county ground at Hove was a flat one and with bright sunshine, there wasn't much happening in the air or off the track.
