'Gyanu must go': CJP's Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka after release, despite Jantar Mantar protest undertaking

The Delhi High Court has questioned CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka's lawyer Abhik Chimni, asking him about the procedure followed after their bail bonds were furnished and allegedly breached with Jantar Mantar trespass act. The HC was hearing a petition filed by Das and Ranka On Tuesday, challenging a special executive magistrate’s order extending their judicial custody. The court observed that the petitioners had furnished bail bonds on October 11 and questioned why the procedure prescribed under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for breach of bail bonds was not followed. The court was referring to the peace bond valued at ₹50,000 each, and an obligation to maintain public peace and refrain from disruptive activities for one year signed by two leaders on Oct 11 after they were placed under preventive arrest at the Delhi Airport under Sections 126 and 170 of the BNSS.

Also Read: US lawmaker Pramila Jaypal writes to Rubio, urges to raise handling of CJP protest with India

The challenge follows an October 19 order by the special executive magistrate (SEM) at Delhi's Mandir Marg police station extending their custody by two days. A revolution ‘recommended’ by the algorithms? At the heart of the government's actions is a sense that social media recommendation algorithms are deliberately amplifying protest-related content, pushing it even to people who do not necessarily wish to consume such content. But higher engagement leads to heightened emotions, a sense of urgency and more shares of the content, increasing watch time, which further fuels the online feeds, and support for such protests offline. Neha Bora questions police action All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora, who was also detained during Friday’s protests, was released early Saturday after completing the required formalities under the Delhi Police Act. Bora accused the police of unlawful detention and demanded an end to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She also called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and imprisonment. "I was detained at Mandi House and kept here (at the police station) the whole night, until 5 am. Why are you (police) carrying out these illegal detentions?" she told PTI. Security tightened in central Delhi Police said around 150 people were detained on Friday to maintain law and order and prevent traffic disruption. Security personnel cordoned off Central Park in Connaught Place, with Rapid Action Force personnel deployed in the area. The demonstrations come amid opposition and student protests over alleged electoral irregularities. CJP activists Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das remain in judicial custody in a separate case linked to alleged trespass at Jantar Mantar.

Protesters took to Delhi's streets during the CJP's Tiranga march, renewing their demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation.

As the row over alleged irregularities in S.I.R. continues, people again took to the streets, as the Cockroach Janata Party called for a 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest in India's national capital. Delhi's Connaught Place turned into a fortress, with the deployment of thousands of cops as well as military personnel. At least 150 protesters, including CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, were detained by the Delhi Police. People waved the national flag and marched peacefully in the national capital on CJP's appeal. This was part of the larger protests to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Similarly, AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj, along with several party workers, took out a Tricolour Yatra near the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Senior leaders such as Gopal Rai also took part in the protests. Left MPs and workers from student organisations such as SFI, DYFI and AISF also carried out the Tiranga March protest. Also Read: 'Who was that VIP?': Rahul Gandhi urges President Murmu to reconsider Gautam's appointment as Sikkim Governor This is not all. Members and supporters of CJP also held protests in Bengaluru and Mumbai's Azad Maidan. A few hours earlier, Delhi Police placed Abhijeet Dipke under preventive detention, citing that permission had not been granted to the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest. According to sources, police has taken the CJP founder to a safe place in Delhi and is preparing to take legal action against him. Earlier in the day, Delhi Police reached Dipke's residence and served him a notice instructing him not to visit Central Park. AISA president Neha Bora, another leader who has been at the centre stage of protests, was also detained along with other AISA workers by Delhi Police near Mandi House. Now, even as police advised people to stay away from the protests, citizens still turned up, voicing their dissatisfaction against the Election Commission of India. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court of India refused an urgent hearing on a plea challenging the New Delhi Municipal Council's decision to shut Central Park where CJP called for protests. Observing that it was conscious of difficulties that such a closure could cause to small shopkeepers and their families, the court hinted that it could intervene if the restrictions result in business losses. Meanwhile, various trade and business organisations wrote to PM Modi over their losses due to the recent protests and also demanded his intervention in the matter to protect their interests. The spate of protests raises some key questions. Will the central government initiate a dialogue with the opposition and CJP, which is unrelenting on its demand for the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation? Will there be a conscious effort to address concerns over the deletion of eligible voters' names? With both sides at loggerheads, an early end to the impasse seems quite unlikely.

Mumbai: CJP brings Tricolour protest to Azad Maidan after weeks of demonstrations

Amid protests against India’s top election officer Gyanesh Kumar, led by the youth movement Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and joined by opposition political parties, some sections of the media and government-aligned observers allege foreign attempts to destabilise the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Much of this speculation has focused on the US. While the merits of these allegations are up for debate, analysts and historians point to the US record of engineering or attempting regime change in several countries, including democracies. Allegations of US interference in Indian politics have resurfaced amid protests against the Modi government over the actions of top election official Gyanesh Kumar. This is nothing new. Foreign funding and influence claims are part of historical political discourse in India

Such operations involved various agencies and organisations such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), aid agencies that channel funds through non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and arms suppliers that equipped different sides of the political divide in countries across continents. Allegations of foreign backing for the current protests in India A recurring theme in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) allegations is that foreign forces are backing the protests. Sukanta Majumdar, a Union minister, described the movement as an attempt to “destabilise the country”, while BJP president Nitin Nabin accused it of acting “at the behest of foreign forces”. Security agencies are examining social media posts and profiles allegedly linked to foreign countries, including Pakistan, as well as claims about financial and material support for the CJP and other groups. Questions have also been raised about whether some protest organisers were in contact with personnel linked to the US Embassy, whether workshops involved American consultants, and whether money transfers from US-based foundations to Indian NGOs were connected to the protests. At the time of writing, no official findings confirming these allegations had been made public. https://www.wionews.com/videos/cjp-protest-supreme-court-rejects-plea-for-free-hand-to-delhi-police-1791545747388/embed American organisations under scrutiny in India: Recent developments What is often described as the US “deep state”, the official American aid agency, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and its affiliated institutes are frequently mentioned in these allegations. Protests were organised in several parts of the country, including Mumbai and Delhi, as demonstrators called for accountability over the alleged irregularities. The Mumbai Police maintained that permission had not been sought for gathering at August Kranti Maidan. CJP workers, however, claimed that they had emailed the authorities requesting permission but had not received a response.

In Delhi, more than 4,000 protesters were detained due to the protest, primarily in areas around Jantar Mantar, the designated protest site.

A day after being detained by the Mumbai Police, actress Zayn Marie shared a video on social media where she showed her injury marks and said, “Do not scare us so much that no fear is left in the first place.”

Actress Zayn Marie, daughter of filmmaker Mansoor Khan and niece of Aamir Khan, was detained by the Mumbai Police along with her cousin, actor Imran Khan and his girlfriend Lekha Washington on Saturday for an hour while protesting against Gyanesh Kumar. A day later, Zayn shared pictures of injury marks on her body on social media. On Sunday, Zayn shared a reel on Instagram, showing marks on her arm, fingers and legs and spoke about fear in a message that accompanied the video. Looking directly into the camera, Zayn said, "Do not scare us so much that no fear is left in the first place." The actress captioned the post, "she exposes (the state) on the internet." Zayn had earlier shared videos documenting her detention alongside Imran Khan and Lekha Washington. The three were taken into custody while attending a protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai.

She later said she had been taken to Dwarka North police station with five MPs and announced that she would remain in Delhi to participate in the INDIA bloc’s planned march on Monday. “4pm. Along with our 5 MPs, we have started our dharna at Dwarka North PS where we have been brought. We were kidnapped and driven around in a prison van for two hours. I am not returning to Kolkata tonight and in protest against all that is happening today against the youth and all, I will join the I.N.D.I.A march on Monday,” she said in a post on X. Heavy security, metro restrictions across Delhi CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, along with Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, was detained at Indira Gandhi International Airport, a senior police officer confirmed. More than 1,500 CJP supporters were also reported to have been detained from different parts of Delhi as a preventive measure. Around 35,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed across the capital. Barricades and vehicle checks were introduced around central Delhi and along routes leading to Jantar Mantar. The security arrangements also affected public transport. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation restricted entry and exit at 45 stations from 9 pm on Friday until 6 pm on Saturday, revising an earlier list of 57 stations. Interchange facilities remained available at the affected stations, except New Delhi. The Election Commission has maintained that the electoral-roll revision involves verification and that eligible voters removed from draft rolls can enrol again.
