Under his leadership, CSK has registered a record 121 wins in 204 matches in the IPL.

The IPL games will be played across stadiums in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune with an audience occupancy rate of 25 per cent as per COVID-19 protocols.

In all, 20 matches each will be held at Wankhede Stadium &amp; DY Patil Stadium, 15 matches each at Brabourne and MCA International Stadium, Pune.&nbsp;

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been handed another huge blow ahead of the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as England all-rounder Moeen Ali is likely to miss the opening clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 26. Moeen is currently stranded in London due to a delay in his visa for India.

After losing star pace Deepak Chahar's services for at least a couple of weeks at the start of the season, CSK's troubles have intensified over Moeen's visa delay. Moeen was one of CSK's best players in their title-winning campaign last year and can contribute equally well with the bat and the ball.

Despite having applied for his visa quite some time ago and BCCI also intervening in the matter, Moeen is currently stranded in London waiting for his visa approval to catch a flight to India. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said the franchise had expected Moeen to land in India by Monday this week but there has been a delay due to the verification process.

"We were expecting Moeen to join us by Monday but because of the delay in issuing a visa, it is not clear when he will leave for Mumbai. He submitted the visa application on February 28, but because of the verification process, there has been a delay. Unless he enters the bubble by Wednesday noon, it won't be possible for him to play against Kolkata," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Moeen was roped in by CSK ahead of IPL 2021 last year and went on to revive the team's top-order with his brilliant performances at number three. Moeen notched up 357 runs and picked up six wickets in 15 games to help CSK win their fourth title after a win against Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.

He could only manage 200 runs at an average of just 25 in the 2020 season before scoring 114 runs last season at an average of just 16.28. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will kick off on March 26 with previous year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders going head-to-head in the opener. 

This season, the IPL will be played in four venues across Maharashtra. Mumbai's Wankhede and Brabourne Stadium alongside Navi Mumbai and Pune's DY Patil and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium will be the venues.

Most teams have already reached Mumbai and they are hosting rigorous practice sessions ahead of the start of the season. However, CSK have opted for a different approach in their training as they have travelled to the city of Surat in Gujarat which is a neighbouring state of Maharashtra.<o:p></o:p>

The move has gained a lot of attention on social media with a number of users trying to decode the reason behind this strategy and on Sunday, head coach Stephen Fleming explained the tactic.<o:p></o:p>

"It's good. They've been training well for the last week so it's nice to join them finally. It's good to be out in good facilities... The challenge obviously in Mumbai [is] that all teams are training there," said Fleming in a video posted by CSK's Twitter account.

“Shardul Thakur isn't there as well so you need to make sure that you find a replacement. They have one guy who is young, is raw - Hangargekar. You know he is a fantastic young talent. CSK managed to rope in some quality overseas players at nominal prices at the mega auction in the form of the Kiwi trio of Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway and Adam Milne. Du Plessis might not have led an IPL team but is one of the most experienced cricketers in the league and has won the title twice as a player with CSK. He has also led South Africa in the past and has significant experience as a leader in international cricket. Du Plessis spent nine seasons with CSK where he played&nbsp;under the legendary MS Dhoni.

Du Plessis admitted he has a quite similar captaincy style to Dhoni, who is known for his ability to stay calm under pressure. However, the former CSK batter said when he first arrived at the franchise he found Dhoni's style of leading the side complete opposite of what he had thought captaincy would look like.

“The crazy thing is, when I started over in Chennai, I had this idea of what captaincy looks like. And MS was the complete opposite of what I thought it would have looked like! Because my culture was South African, right? So I came to this environment and I was like, ‘this guy was completely different than I thought what it should be!’” Faf said in an interview for RCB.

A total number of 70 league matches and 4 Playoff games will be played in the duration of 65 days.

The 15th season will start on March 26 at the Wankhede stadium with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.

On March 27, the league will stage its first double-header starting off with a Day game at Brabourne where the Delhi Capitals will square off against Mumbai Indians.

The DY Patil Stadium will host the clash between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at night.

There will be 12 doubleheaders in total with the first match starting at 3:30 PM IST. All evening matches will start at 7:30 PM IST.

The final game of the league stage will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings on May 22 at the Wankhede Stadium.

The schedule for the Playoffs and the IPL 2022 final to be played on May 29 will be announced later.

This time around the Indian Premier League is all set to have ten instead of eight teams but each team will play 14 league games like before. The ten teams have been divided into two groups of five each with Mumbai Indians and CSK headlining Group A and B respectively.

As per the new format of the IPL, each team will play twice against the other four teams in their respective groups and against the team who are placed in the same row in the other group. The BCCI is so far announced the schedule for only the league stage of the competition featuring 70 matches in total. The venue and dates for the playoffs are yet to be announced while the final is confirmed to be played on May 29.

The final league game of the season will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings on May 22. The playoffs are expected to get underway from May 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The entire legaue stage will be hosted by four venues in Maharashtra.
