As per a report in Cricbuzz, the first-ever season of the Women's IPL will get underway on March 07 and will conclude on March 22. In addition, the report stated that it will be a five-team event -- with major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru to be the venues --&nbsp;for which a whopping&nbsp;160-170 Indian players and 30-40 overseas cricketers will be given by the selectors for consideration.&nbsp;

The new IPL chairman Arun Dhumal expects the maiden Women's IPL season to be a huge hit and mentioned that the purpose of the tournament is to let the game reach a newer set of fans and encourage girls to pick up the sport.&nbsp;In November, Dhumal was quoted as saying by the NDTV, "Fans should make it to the stadium in large numbers whether we have the WIPL in rural areas or main city centres. We will evaluate that and take a call soon." He added, "We are working on making it one of the best women's cricket tournament in the world. What we did in the IPL, we want to do something similar with WIPL."

Current Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has high hopes from the inaugural edition and revealed how it will feel Indian cricket. She told Star Sports, "When they (domestic players) are playing for the Indian team, they will not face any extra pressure, because right now, the players that are selected from the domestic teams, sometimes I can see that they are blank, they are not able to understand how to change their game plan."

“To cut that gap, the tournament will play a major role. So, in the coming years, with the girls who play in the IPL, we will definitely see some major changes in their performances," Harmanpreet further asserted.

In November this year, the BCCI sacked the entire selection panel headed by Chetan Sharma. The other members were Harvinder Singh, Sunil Joshi, and Debasish Mohanty.

It is understood that Chetan, despite his unceremonious dumping and an adverse performance report after India's semi-final debacle at the T20 World Cup, has reapplied for the post alongside Harvinder. However, Joshi and Mohanty (tenure ended) have decided against reapplication.

As per a report in the PTI, BCCI is likely to give the T20I captaincy to Hardik Pandya for a longer duration with the senior players, such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and the likes, set to focus on ODIs and Tests. Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief Ramiz Raja has issued an outright warning to BCCI. The former World Cup winner, on a recent chat on Urdu News, said if the BCCI won’t allow its players to travel to Pakistan next year for the Asia Cup then Pakistan will also not travel to India for the 50-over World Cup in 2023.

Since the time the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) granted Pakistan the rights to host the 2023 Asia Cup, there have been numerous speculations going around in regard to India opting to not travel to Pakistan for security reasons. However, as of now neither the board nor anyone closely associated with the board has commented on the matter.

But just going by the speculations that the event will not go ahead in Pakistan as planned, the PCB chief commented on the matter. He rather issued a warning to BCCI claiming Pakistan will stick to its stance of boycotting the 50-over World Cup in India next year if what he or the board fear happens.

Ramiz Raja even said if Pakistan doesn’t travel to India for the 50-over World Cup, who will watch the mega tournament?

“If Pakistan doesn't take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here then we will go for the World Cup. If they don't come then they can play the World Cup without us," Raja has told Urdu News.

The board chief further said the PCB will continue to adopt an aggressive approach, adding Pakistan’s improved performance recently is speaking for them now.

"We will adopt an aggressive approach. Our team is showing performance. I've always said we need to improve the economy of Pakistan cricket, and that can only happen when we perform well. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, we beat India. We beat India in the T20 Asia Cup. In one year, the Pakistan cricket team defeated a billion-dollar economy team twice."

Meanwhile, Pakistan this year has hosted Australia for a full tour while teams like West Indies and England travelled to the Asian country for their respective tours as well. New Zealand is also in line to return to Pakistan for the 2 Tests and 3 ODIs, starting December 26th.

IPL's newly-appointed chairman Arun Dhumal said the board is looking to introduce various innovations to further enhance the league's reputation in the upcoming years.&nbsp;

"We are definitely looking at various innovations that can be brought to make it more fan-friendly. For those who are watching it on TV and those who are experiencing at the stadium, we want them to have a better experience," Dhumal was quoted as saying by PTI.

"If we can make the IPL schedule well in advance, people from all around the world can plan their travel accordingly. It should be a value-for-money experience for the fans," he added.

The BCCI president confirmed that the number of teams which was increased to ten this year, is expected to remain the same in the next five-year cycle, however, the number of matches per season will rise. IPL 2022 consisted of a total of 74 matches - 70 league games and 4 playoff matches. However, the number of matches is likely to rise by 20 to 94 by the fifth year.

"Teams will stay at 10 only. If you increase that, it becomes difficult to have the tournament in one go. We are looking at 74 games to begin with for the first two seasons, then 84 and if things permit maybe 94 in the fifth year of the media rights cycle, that itself would make it a long enough event," said Dhumal.

"We can't compare ourselves to football and other sporting leagues around the world as the requirement in cricket is totally different. You can't play on the same pitches for six months," he explained.

Currently, all male players contracted by the Indian cricket board are not allowed to take part in any T20 league overseas to maintain their exclusivity to the IPL. Despite growing calls over allowing Indian players to participate in foreign leagues, Dhumal said BCCI has no intention to change the rule anytime soon.

"This in principle is the decision of BCCI that our contracted players can't go and play for other leagues. As it is there is so much of cricket happening. Keeping in mind their overall well-being that decision has been taken. As of now, we stick to that decision," said Dhumal.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah made the announcement on Thursday and according to the new system, the match fee will be same for both sides when it comes to all three formats of the game.

"I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCIWomen cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Cricket."
