Former India all-rounder and 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny officially replaced Sourav Ganguly as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (October 18). Ganguly handed over the baton to Binny during the board's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai.

Jay Shah will continue as the secretary of the Indian cricket board and is set to be the board's representative at the International Cricket Council (ICC), replacing former president Ganguly. The new team of BCCI office bearers took charge of the office on Tuesday after being elected unopposed.

While Binny replaced Ganguly as the head of the board, Shah got another term as secretary. Rajeev Shukla retained the vice-president's post while Ashish Shelar was appointed as the new treasurer of the board. Former BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal will take over as the new chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ganguly reportedly was keen on continuing as the president of the Indian cricket board and had made up his mind to fight the election against Binny. However, the former India captain couldn't garner support from the board members to get another term.

He was offered IPL chairmanship which he politely declined and is now set to return as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Ganguly's exit from the BCCI has not only become a major talking point in the Indian cricket fraternity but has also made it to political debates in the country.

BCCI has not yet named a candidate for the ICC chairman post ahead of the ICC board's meeting to elect the next chairman in November. Ganguly was touted as one of the major candidates for the top post, however, it remains to be seen if the Indian cricket board will back him for the top job.

"Yes, I will be contesting the CAB polls. I plan to file my nomination on October 22. I have been in CAB for five years and as per Lodha rules, I can continue for another four years," Ganguly told PTI.

There was a strong buzz that Ganguly's elder brother Snehasish would contest in place of Avishek Dalmiya for the top post, but the former India player's nomination changes a lot of equations.

"Nobody spoke a word against him. All the Board members were extremely happy and satisfied with the entire team and how BCCI was run in the last three years despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.

"Dada has had a very distinguished career as an India captain, one of the best-ever leaders. As an administrator, he took the entire team along and we worked as one team," he added.

While the itinerary is being readied, it is believed that the first-ever season will kick off in India in March next year, soon after the conclusion of the T20 Women's World Cup and right before the men's IPL. 'He can bowl quickly' - Dale Steyn names Jasprit Bumrah's replacement for T20 World Cup

India will be without Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 edition, in Australia, which kicks off on October 16 with the qualifying round. Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. lost the services of Bumrah for the marquee tournament due to a back stress fracture.

It is to be noted that the 28-year-old Bumrah's back issues had kept him out of action for the Asia Cup 2022 edition as well. Chasing a big total, India scored at brisk rate for majority parts of their innings but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The likes of Dinesh Karthik (46 off 21), Rishabh Pant (27 off 14) got starts but couldn`t convert them into big innings.
