Aaron Finch opened the batting with Narine for KKR as they began their pursuit of the 218-run target. While KKR were hoping to get off to a flying start, they were dealt a blow on the very first ball after Shimron Hetmyer ran out Narine with a sharp throw. Facing the first ball from Boult, Finch played towards cover and ran for a single.

However, it was an abysmal call from the Australian batter as the ball went straight towards Hetmyer, who picked it up and hit the bullseye with a perfect throw. It was a direct hit from Hetmyer as Narine was caught short at the non-striker's end after trying to get back from halfway mark.

Aaron Finch has stepped down from the captaincy of Big Bash League (BBL) side the Melbourne Renegades but is determined to lead Australia's T20 World Cup title defence on home soil next year.

Finch's Australia claimed their first global T20 title with victory over New Zealand in the final in Dubai on Sunday and have less than a year to prepare for the next tournament which starts in Oct. 2022.

Finch, who turned 35 on Wednesday, has had knee problems after surgery in recent months but said he would hold onto the captaincy if fit.

"If I can get there, absolutely," the short-format skipper told reporters on Thursday.

"I was never worried one bit about Dave's form. He's one of the all-time great batsmen of our era. I think you can look at it as though he had a really lean IPL and then the start of this tournament. But the two halves of the IPL were a long way apart. So, if you miss out a couple of times at the end of the first part, which was in India, and then the first couple of games in Dubai, it looks as though a run of form is a pattern there. But I certainly wasn't worried. He's all class, trained hard, mentally fresh and ready to go. It`s great to see the best of him fit and firing. It`s a great sight when he`s up and about and scoring runs for Australia." 
 
Finch felt that momentum is something which doesn't carry forward in a tournament like this. "I don't think that momentum is something that really goes over -- in a tournament like this, I don't think it carries over a huge amount because you're playing a totally different opposition, in different conditions. It's going to be a different wicket again. I don't think you can read too much into anything like that. One thing that -- all you can control is your process and your planning, and we've been doing that really well. We've got confidence in that. Pakistan are playing really good cricket, so it'll be a great test."

Adam Zampa picked up five wickets to help skittle Bangladesh for 73 on Thursday and Finch said the leg-spinner, who has 10 victims in the tournament so far, is a "huge weapon".

"He's someone who`s been so consistent over the last couple of years in both white ball formats of the game," Finch said.

"He often bowls maybe sometimes one (over) in the powerplay but then he`ll bowl straight after the powerplay. He puts so much pressure on opposition.

"What's been the most important thing is he gets very, very good players out consistently."
