The BCCI has rescheduled Team India’s away white-ball series against Bangladesh, earlier scheduled in August (17-31) this year. Earlier reports suggested that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) called off the series, with early signs of which emerging after they paused their media rights sale. Although the reports claimed that strained political relations following a fallout between India and Pakistan led to that, the latest developments read something else. Both boards, however, have decided to reschedule it next year during the September window. "This decision has been reached following discussions between the two boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams," a BCCI statement read. "The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course." In April this year, the BCB announced a tentative schedule, consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is. While the One-Dayers were scheduled to take place on August 17, 20 and 23, the three-match T20Is were to follow – August 26, 29 and 31. Mirpur and Chattogram were the two venues scheduled to host all matches. Since no India matches will take place in August this year, the centrally contracted players will be available for the Duleep Trophy during that window.
Asia Cup 2025
Following the Pahalgam terror attack in April this year, where Pakistan-based terrorists killed 26 innocent lives in broad daylight, all tourists from India and abroad, India retaliated with ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting Pakistan’s terror and military camps, leading to a war-like situation between the arch-rivals. Although the Indian government took harsh steps to boycott Pakistan across all fronts, including cutting diplomatic ties, neither they nor their respective cricket boards made anything official on the sports front, especially cricket. However, the latest reports have suggested that the BCCI and PCB have agreed to honour the Asia Cup commitments, scheduled for September this year. The six-team event would begin in early September, sometime around the 7th, with the UAE hosting all matches. Meanwhile, India and Pakistan mutually agreed to play their head-to-head matches on neutral venues ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. Considering India played all its CT matches in Dubai, later winning the tournament, and with them scheduled to host the Asia Cup (in T20 format) this time, UAE could again be used as the neutral venue for the tournament.

Liverpool to pay Diogo Jota’s remaining two-year contract to family – Report

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj delivered a sensational performance at Edgbaston on Friday (July 4), dismantling England’s batting lineup with a six-wicket haul. This marked his fourth five-wicket haul in Test cricket, placing him in a rare group of Indian pacers to have achieved this feat in Australia, West Indies, South Africa and now England. But what made this performance truly special was the timing, when India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was missing, Siraj rose to the challenge. Statistics show that Siraj thrives when given more responsibility. As Siraj picked a six-fer in the absence of Bumrah, let's understand how Siraj has fared when he led the pack. Since his Test debut in July 2017, Siraj’s stats show a clear trend: he performs with more responsibility and there is a psychology behind it. When Bumrah is part of the team, there’s a natural expectation that he will take charge and lead the bowling attack. However, in his absence, Siraj recognises the responsibility that falls on his shoulders to get the job done for India. Let's understand this through stats. Also Read | IND vs ENG, 2nd Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal leapfrogs Sunil Gavaskar in THIS elite list – Details inside
Siraj without Bumrah and Shami

In 23 Tests played with Bumrah, Siraj averaged 33.82 with the ball.

In 15 Tests without Bumrah, that average improves significantly to 25.20.

In 12 Tests without Bumrah and Shami, Siraj’s bowling average drops even further to an impressive 22.27.

These numbers state that bigger the responsibility, the better Siraj performs. Interestingly, during the Birmingham Test, Siraj made a smart tactical shift to line and lengths. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old prodigy, has turned heads in cricket like never before. The rookie opener has had a successful IPL debut this season for the Rajasthan Royals. He racked up 252 runs in seven contested matches, including hitting a record-breaking 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans (GT) at home – the quickest by an Indian and the youngest ever to do so. Having achieved plenty at this tender age, with more in abundance waiting to come to him, former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has warned him against getting spoiled by all the luxuries and distractions, including fame, money, stardom and whatnot. From hitting his first ball for a six in the cash-rich league to sharing the dressing room with the game’s giants, active and former stars, Vaibhav is exposed to everything this game has to offer, including its twists and turns. Shikhar Dhawan underlines challenges for 14-year-old Suryavanshi after his dreamy IPL debut

It began with a simple and a random tweet. A simple, heartfelt plea from Ranjith Ravichandran, ana vid sports fan from Coimbatore: If anyone sponsor me 2000 rupees, I can go to watch this from Coimbatore.” He was talking about the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 — India’s first global javelin competition, a dream that finally found shape in 2025. He didn’t expect a reply. Let alone from the man himself. But hours later, his phone buzzed with a flurry of notifications. Neeraj Chopra, two-time Olympic medalist and reigning world champion, had quote-tweeted him. Not just acknowledged him — invited him. He had posted saying, “Hi, Ranjith. You've got a full VVIP experience waiting for you in Bengaluru because your trip to the @nc_classic is on me! And thanks to @RadissonHotels, you'll be staying about 90 metres away from me. See you soon!” In that moment, Ranjith wasn’t just a fan. He was seen. “I thought it was fake,” he laughed while talking to WION exclusively. “I had to check twice if it was the real account.” The disbelief lingered even when someone from JSW Sports called to coordinate logistics. “Until that call, I thought this couldn’t be happening.” But it was.
See the viral tweet below

What makes this story more than a feel-good viral moment is the depth of Ranjith’s fandom. His journey as a sports lover goes back over 18 years — tracking Olympic disciplines, following Indian athletes, and even competing himself during his college days. He ran the 1500m when he was in college. He also played hockey. He was in the NCC. His life wasn’t defined by headlines, but by consistent, quiet dedication to Indian sport. And then came 2016 — the year a teenager from India shattered the junior javelin world record. “I still remember seeing the name Neeraj Chopra on the World Athletics website. An Indian holding a world record — that gave me goosebumps,” Ranjith said. That record still stands. So does Ranjith’s awe. “I’ve followed him ever since. Every tournament. From Commonwealth Games and Asian Games to the Diamond League and Tokyo Olympics and Paris Olympics. Whatever the time zone — even 2:30 am — I stay up.” When Neeraj made history at the Tokyo Olympics, Ranjith was on a post-COVID trip with friends. But even there, sport came first. “I dragged everyone to watch the final. We were watching casually at first, but once the final three throws started, nobody moved. I explained the rules to them — who throws first, what matters — everything. When he won, we were all screaming. I’ll never forget that moment.” Now, he’s about to make another unforgettable memory — seeing Neeraj Chopra in person. There are sporting legends. And then there are icons who make you feel seen. Neeraj Chopra didn’t just achieve greatness. He carried his fans along for the journey. And this response to Ranjith’s tweet wasn’t a PR stunt. It was a reflection of how deeply he values his supporters. “Not everyone replies to a random fan. But he did,” Ranjith says. “It means the world.” For a man who’s followed Neeraj across time zones, from juniors to Olympic gold, this isn’t just about meeting a celebrity. It’s about finally closing the circle — from being a fan behind the screen to standing beside the man who lit the spark. The Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 is more than an athletics meet. It’s a symbol. For the first time, India is hosting a global javelin event named after one of its own. And it’s being broadcast live, in the Indian time zone. For fans like Ranjith, that matters. “You don’t have to wait till midnight anymore. You can go to the stadium. You can feel it. For the next Neeraj, this is huge,” he says. “I hope some boy in Bangalore sees it and says — I want to be that.” When asked if meeting Neeraj Chopra will be his top memory, Ranjith doesn’t hesitate. “No doubt. I’ve had many moments. But this? This will stay with me forever.” From quietly following middle-distance races in college to jumping with joy in a hotel room during Tokyo, to now getting a personal invitation from India’s greatest-ever athlete — this is the kind of fan story that reminds you why sport matters. Because sometimes, one tweet, one throw, one reply — can change a life.

The tweet that changed everything: How Neeraj Chopra made one fan’s wish a reality

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said his team's Club World Cup quarter-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday will be an enthralling encounter because of their similar "extreme" styles of play. Club World Cup: Bayern’s coach Kompany ready for PSG clash, calls it ‘perfect storm’

As Bengaluru braces itself for the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, one of the most influential voices in Indian and global athletics is quietly confident—and deeply proud. Adille Sumariwalla, the vice-president of World Athletics and former president of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), spoke to WION exclusively ahead of the event about what this means for the country, what’s to come, and why India’s athletic revolution is just getting started. “This is going to be a great event,” Sumariwalla said. “It’s a great start for India and for Indian sport. Neeraj deserves an event in his name—he’s not just one of the greatest, he is the greatest athlete India has ever produced, both pre and post-Independence.” For Sumariwalla, the Neeraj Chopra Classic is more than just a landmark meet—it’s a symbol of the long game India has been playing in athletics. “What you see today is not by chance,” he said. “Wherever Indian athletics has reached today is because of our vision, our strategic planning. We’ve only just begun. In five years, you’ll really see the results," he added. He points to a carefully structured two-pronged approach—targeting both grassroots and elite levels—as the key driver behind India’s recent sporting rise. “We run one of the largest grassroots program in the world. That’s where Neeraj, Dutee, and 90% of our top talent have come from. It’s all part of the plan.” According to him, the AFI has already built a domestic calendar featuring over 30 national-level events and has started to seed future stars through a robust talent identification pipeline. “We’ve laid the foundation. The real outcome—the medals, the domination—will come in the next three to five years.”
India to bid for World Championships in 2029 and 2031
So what’s next? Hosting the World Championships. “Yes, we are going to bid,” Sumariwalla confirmed. “We’ll bid for the World Athletics Championships in 2029 and 2031. We’ve already expressed our interest in the World Relays, the World Juniors, and the World Indoors. There’s a lot on the plate.” He also offered a grounded take on rising Indian javelin thrower Sachin Yadav, who many have tipped as the next big thing. “We put so much pressure on young athletes, and that kills them,” he said. “Let’s not do that. Sachin is a promising talent, and we’re working with him step by step. We’ve brought in a foreign coach who’s a former world champion himself. Let’s focus on the journey, not just the result. If the journey is good, the results will follow.” As for the elite line-up at the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, Sumariwalla couldn’t hide his excitement. “It’s an excellent event. I’m dying to go to the ground, sit there, and just enjoy myself for two hours.” From strategic blueprints to elite showdowns, the Neeraj Chopra Classic is already writing a new chapter in Indian athletics. And if Sumariwalla’s vision stays on track, it might just be the beginning of India’s golden era in track and field.

In an era where cricket dominates every stretch of India’s sporting landscape, javelin quietly made history under the skies of Bengaluru. The inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic isn’t just another athletics meet — it is the beginning of something deeper, more powerful. For the athletes, the fans, and for Neeraj himself, this isn’t just a competition; it is a movement. “I never even dreamt of something like this,” Neeraj said during a press conference on Friday (July 5), his voice steady but eyes betraying emotion. “I never thought I’d represent India, win a medal, and then see something like this happen… in India.” Neeraj wasn’t alone in his sentiment. 2016 Rio Olympic silver medallist Julius Yego and 2016 Rio Olympics gold medalist Thomas Rohler sat beside him, echoed similar hopes — that javelin, often seen as a niche sport, now had a chance to shine in countries where it was once sidelined. “You say Kenya isn’t popular for javelin? Well, now it is,” Yego said with a smile. “India was cricket-first, but look at this — javelin is coming up, and it’s only going to grow," he added. Yego's right. The sight of global champions assembling in Bengaluru to compete — not at the World Championships or Olympics, but at an Indian-organised event dedicated solely to javelin — is something surreal. The Classic issn’t just about distance or records. It is about visibility, community, and planting the seeds for future generations. Thomas Rohler, who has long been more than just a champion thrower but also a mentor through his popular YouTube channel, reflected on this larger vision. “After Neeraj became the best in the world, this was the next logical step,” he said. “Bringing the sport to people not just through screens, but live, right in front of their eyes," he added. His videos, he said, have reached villages across India. “I get messages from kids throwing sticks on dusty fields — it’s beautiful. They’ve only seen javelin on the internet, and now, we’re here — bringing it to them.” Neeraj, for his part, is balancing dual roles — competitor and organiser. “The athlete in me is always up,” he said, brushing off questions about fatigue. “Even today I trained. This is the dream I had — throwing here, with others throwing beside me, in India. That it’s finally happening is emotional.” The logistical hurdles weren’t small. The event had been rescheduled once, some athletes withdrew, and funding questions lingered. But Neeraj was clear: “For now, it’s not about business models. Our focus is to make this successful. That’s it.” India’s next-gen star — Sachin Yadav sat on stage, nervous but determined. “This is a huge opportunity,” Sachin said. “To compete with legends, in India, is something else. Yes, there’s pressure. But I am going to give my best.” And while the spotlight was on India, the vision was global. “You never know,” Yego said. “Next year, maybe Kenya will host a javelin-only event. Or Germany. It’s all possible now.” And so, as Bengaluru is all set to host its first international javelin-only competition, the stage is set for more than medals. This is India saying: we belong here. This is the sport saying: we’re just getting started. And this is Neeraj Chopra proving, once again, that gold isn’t just something you wear — sometimes, it’s something you give back.

A late own-goal by goalkeeper Weverton took Chelsea through to the Club World Cup semi-finals on Friday as the Premier League side edged Palmeiras of Brazil 2-1 in a last-eight tie that had been lit up by a moment of magic from young star Estevao Willian. The teenage Brazil forward, who will join Chelsea after the tournament, was eager to impress his future employers and his brilliant 53rd-minute finish cancelled out Cole Palmer's opener in Philadelphia. But a deflected Malo Gusto cross went in off Palmeiras goalkeeper Weverton in the 83rd minute to give Chelsea the victory and set up a semi-final showdown with another Brazilian side in Fluminense. The scoreline was a repeat of Chelsea's victory when the teams met in the final of the Club World Cup under the tournament's old guise in 2022. Enzo Maresca's team will now be fancied to go on and reach the final of FIFA's new, expanded version of the competition, with Fluminense standing in their way in the last four at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Tuesday. If not everyone has yet been won over by the tournament, the intensity levels on the pitch are rising as it reaches the business end and there was a big-game atmosphere in the stands in Philadelphia. Lincoln Financial Field was almost sold out for the occasion, with 65,782 fans in attendance despite much of the city having emptied out for the July 4 holiday and long weekend. This game played out to a backdrop of Independence Day fireworks lighting up the sky over the nearby Delaware River, but there were fireworks on the pitch too. Jamie Smith made the highest Test score by an England wicketkeeper of 184 not out and Harry Brook passed 150 yet again but India still ended Friday's third day of the second Test at Edgbaston with a lead of over 200 runs. England were in dire straits at 84-5, more than 500 runs behind, when Smith joined forces with Brook in just the second over of the day's play. They came together after Mohammed Siraj had taken two wickets in two balls, including removing Ben Stokes for the first golden duck of the England captain's Test career. And by the time England were dismissed for 407, Smith had long since surpassed Surrey mentor Alec Stewart's previous highest Test score by an England wicketkeeper of 173 against New Zealand at Auckland in 1997. IND vs ENG: Smith, Brook revive England but India still ahead at Edgbaston

A lot of drama ensued in dying moments of day 3 (Jul 4) of the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston over a DRS call taken by India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The southpaw was given LBW just after India crossed fifty-run mark in the second innings and had a long chat with partner KL Rahul before opting to review. England skipper Ben Stokes, however, wasn't amused as he ran to on-field umpires to complain that the DRS was taken after stipulated time limit of 15 seconds. The umpires denied request but Jaiswal was out upon review and had to go back. Jaiswal scored 28 runs before being dismissed and had added 51 runs for the opening wicket with Rahul to take India's lead past 200. Also Read - IND vs ENG: Brook, Smith rewrite records with 303-run 6th wicket Test partnership at Edgbaston
WATCH THE WICKET BELOW:

How much time is allowed to take DRS call?
As per the ICC's rules, a batter has 15 seconds to challenge the on-field umpire's decision of out and take a review. Similarly, the fielding side also gets 15 seconds to challenge the on-field umpire's not out call against the batter.
What happens after taking DRS call?
After a batter or the fielding side takes DRS call, the on-field umpire sends the decision to get reviewed by the third umpire. The third umpire then checks the validity of the decision including if the delivery was a no-ball and conveys the decision to on-field umpire who then gives the signal on ground.
How many times DRS can be taken in an innings?
Each team, batting or bowling, can take DRS three times in an innings. In case the DRS call goes in favour of the team or the on-field umpire's call stays then they retain the review else the review is lost.
What is umpire's call?
The umpire's call is on-field umpire's decision about a potential out or not out decision. For eg, if a batter is given LBW out by the on-field umpire and decides to review it then the on-field umpire's decision (out or not) stays in case of impact of ball on the off stump or ball hitting the wickets - even if marginally.

Jaiswal was given LBW just after India crossed fifty-run mark in the second innings and had a long chat with partner KL Rahul before opting to review. Ben Stokes, however, wasn't amused as he ran to on-field umpires to complain that the DRS was taken after stipulated time limit of 15 seconds.

IND vs ENG: WATCH | India sink to new low as Jamie Smith almost eclipses Shahid Afridi for record ton at Edgbaston

Magnus Carlsen was left embarrassed at SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz Croatia 2025 in the Grand Chess Tour after losing to reigning world champion and Indian chess star D. Gukesh. Carlsen, who had an infamous incident with Gukesh recently at Norway Chess, had questioned the world champion's abilities in rapid and blitz format and had said in a chat with organisers: “Gukesh hasn’t done anything to indicate that he’s going to do well in such a tournament.” Carlsen's statement, however, proven wrong as Gukesh beat Carlsen in round 6 of the rapid format and now leads the points table with 10 points from five wins in a row. Also Read - Wimbledon 2025: Djokovic surpasses Federer, just one step away from century of wins
What Carlsen said after losing to Gukesh?
Carlsen was more humble in his opinion of Gukesh after the loss on July 3 and said in an interview with Take Take Take: “No, I've played kind of poorly the whole tournament and this time I got soundly punished. I think I had a very, very nice position. He took his chance to open up a position with c6. After that it was a little bit , like earlier, where I get short of time."I can't really handle it that well. And he found a lot of really, really good moves. And I think he did that part very well. I think I had one kind of last chance at some point to bail out to something that was very draw-ish. And I thought, well, let's continue playing. And then a couple of minutes later, I was pretty hopelessly lost. So, it was poor, but all credit to Gukesh. He's playing well and he's taking his chances too.”
What happened between Gukesh and Carlsen in Norway?
On June 1, Carlsen had lost to Gukesh in round 6 of Norway Open and slammed the chess table in frustration. The video of Carlsen's attitude, which can already be described as quirky the most times, went viral with netizens slamming him for the behaviour.
