Indian-American golfer Megha Ganne etched her name into history by clinching the 2025 US Women’s Amateur title at Bandon Dunes, defeating Brooke Biermann 4 and 3 in the 36-hole final to stun the golfing world. The 21-year-old rising senior, playing in her seventh US Women’s Amateur, overcame the 2025 Michigan State graduate with a composed and clinical performance. Megha’s parents, Sudha, an endocrinologist, and Hari, an IT entrepreneur, immigrated from India to the United States and now live in Holmdel, New Jersey, with Megha and her younger sister, Sirina.<h2>Watch the moment when she became champion:</h2>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-media-max-width="560">A magnificent week for Megha Ganne! 🏆 The <a href="https://twitter.com/StanfordWGolf?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@StanfordWGolf</a> star is the U.S. Women&#39;s Amateur champion! <a href="https://t.co/QIcI6DA3Md">pic.twitter.com/QIcI6DA3Md</a>&mdash; USGA (@USGA) <a href="https://twitter.com/USGA/status/1954717711432388634?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 11, 2025</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Ganne first made headlines in 2021 as a teenager, when she led after the opening round of the US Women’s Open and was tied for third going into the final day, eventually finishing tied 14th. Now, alongside fellow Indian-Americans Akshay Bhatia and Sahith Theegala on the PGA Tour — and Indo-British PGA Tour winner Aaron Rai — she is emerging as one of the most exciting names in the sport.&nbsp;Golfers of Indian origin have been making waves globally this year. Indo-Canadian Sudarshan Yellamaraju and Indo-American Julian Suri both captured Korn Ferry Tour titles, while on the day Megha lifted her trophy, Bhatia finished tied sixth and Rai tied 22nd at the PGA Tour’s St. Jude Championship, and Yellamaraju placed fourth at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Pinnacle Bank Championship.&nbsp; With her win in the 125th edition of the world’s second-oldest women’s amateur championship, Megha secured exemptions into the 2026 US Women’s Open at The Riviera Country Club in California and a guaranteed place on the 2025 USA Women’s World Amateur Team for October’s event in Singapore.&nbsp; Her road to the crown was anything but easy. Ranked No. 11 in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking, she knocked out three consecutive top-20 players — Anna Davis (14), Kary Hollenbaugh (20), and Eila Galitsky (6) — before producing a stunning comeback in the semifinals against No. 63 seed Ella Scaysbrook, rallying from four down with seven holes to play to win in 19 holes.&nbsp; The final itself was far less dramatic. Megha never trailed; the match was all square through 11 holes in the morning, but three consecutive bogeys from Biermann handed her opponent a decisive edge. Megha took a three-up lead into the afternoon and never looked back. Only months earlier, she had beaten then-world No. 1 amateur Lottie Woad, now an LPGA winner — a result that, in hindsight, foreshadowed her breakthrough on one of amateur golf’s biggest stages.&nbsp;“It’s so crazy,” Ganne was quoted saying to USGA. “It's so much harder than it seems to win one of these, and it takes not only like a lot of patience, but so many things working in your favor: good health, good luck, good fortune, and good timing. All those things coming together just feels like it's fate. I feel very blessed right now.”

The union government on Monday (August 11) passed the National Sports Governance Bill and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Lok Sabha, amid protests from the opposition. Both the bills were tabled by sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya during the ongoing monsoon session in the presence of speaker Sandhya Ray of the BJP.&nbsp; The Sports Governance Bill aims to overhaul sports administration in India, while the Anti-Doping Amendment Bill seeks to grant greater operational independence to the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in line with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) directives.&nbsp;&nbsp;“The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025, seeks to enhance institutional and operational independence of the National Anti-Doping Appeal Panel and the National Anti-Doping Agency to ensure autonomy in their decisions pertaining to operations, investigations, and enforcement activities,” the Bill’s objectives said. “The Bill will be the single biggest reform in sports since Independence. Through this bill, we hope to realise the dream of ground to glory,” Mandaviya said of the Sports Governance Bill in Lok Sabha.&nbsp;“It will strengthen accountability and professionalism. It will give more opportunities to women in the country, and it will ensure justice for our athletes.” "It will have massive significance in India's sports ecosystem. It is unfortunate that such an important bill and reform does not have opposition's participation," he added. &nbsp; Most of the opposition MPs were absent when the bills were introduced, having been detained during a march to the Election Commission over alleged voter data manipulation in Bihar. After two MPs spoke in support, opposition members returned and started slogan-shouting. The bills were passed by voice vote and the House adjourned till 4 pm. Earlier, Parliamentary Sports Committee chair Digvijaya Singh had urged Speaker Om Birla to refer the Sports Governance Bill to the panel for detailed scrutiny.&nbsp;Mandaviya said the two bills were key reforms aimed at building a "transparent, accountable and world-class sports ecosystem" in India as the country aims to bid for the 2036 Olympics. "Efforts have been made since 1975 and in 1985, we had the first draft. But sports was also politicised for personal gains. Some ministers made efforts to bring this bill but could not move forward. "In 2011, we had a National Sports Code. Another effort was made to turn it into a bill. It reached the cabinet, there was a discussion as well but the bill was deferred after that. It did not reach the Parliament," the minister stated while presenting a timeline of the bill's journey."&nbsp;"The National Sports Bill Governance Bill is a force of change...Despite being such a large country, our performance at the Olympic Games and on the international stage has not been satisfactory and this Bill aims to build India's sports capacity," he added.

Through this bill, we hope to realise the dream of ground to glory,” Mandaviya said of the Sports Governance Bill in Lok Sabha. “It will strengthen accountability and professionalism. It will give more opportunities to women in the country, and it will ensure justice for our athletes.” "It will have massive significance in India's sports ecosystem. It is unfortunate that such an important bill and reform does not have opposition's participation," he added. Most of the opposition MPs were absent when the bills were introduced, having been detained during a march to the Election Commission over alleged voter data manipulation in Bihar. After two MPs spoke in support, opposition members returned and started slogan-shouting. The bills were passed by voice vote and the House adjourned till 4 pm. Earlier, Parliamentary Sports Committee chair Digvijaya Singh had urged Speaker Om Birla to refer the Sports Governance Bill to the panel for detailed scrutiny. Mandaviya said the two bills were key reforms aimed at building a "transparent, accountable and world-class sports ecosystem" in India as the country aims to bid for the 2036 Olympics. It did not reach the Parliament," the minister stated while presenting a timeline of the bill's journey." "The National Sports Bill Governance Bill is a force of change...Despite being such a large country, our performance at the Olympic Games and on the international stage has not been satisfactory and this Bill aims to build India's sports capacity," he added.

Reds legend Ian Rush and Palace chairman Steve Parish laid wreaths on the side of the pitch before kick-off, while the Liverpool end was awash with banners and flags paying tribute to the Portuguese international. A minute's silence, however, had to be cut short due to disturbances in the crowd. Jota's death has dampened the excitement over Liverpool's transfer spending spree to build on a squad that romped to a record-equalling 20th league title last season. All four of their new signings at a cost of £260 million ($350 million) -- Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Frimpong and Milos Kerkez -- started. Ekitike's role this season could depend on whether Liverpool are successful in their pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. But the Frenchman -- signed from Eintracht Frankfurt last month for an initial £69 million -- did his case to be Slot's preferred number nine no harm at all. Wirtz also bagged his first assist for the Reds when Ekitike spun onto the German's pass and fired into the far corner after just four minutes. Palace were making their first ever appearance in the fixture but the Eagles again showed their ability to match one of the Premier League's giants over 90 minutes. Mateta missed a glorious chance to level when he failed to beat Alisson Becker when one-on-one. Liverpool unbalanced But from the rebound Sarr charged into the box and was tripped by an out-of-sorts Virgil van Dijk. Mateta coolly sent Alisson the wrong way from the penalty spot to equalise. Liverpool's players were sporting a "Forever 20" emblem, referencing Jota's now-retired shirt number, that they will wear all season. The Liverpool fans had risen to chant Jota's name as the game entered the 20th minute when their side retook the lead. Frimpong's chipped cross caught out Henderson and flew into the far corner. Ekitike wasted a great chance for his second early in the second half from another Wirtz pass as this time he fired over. However, Slot's new-look side are still to find the right balance between attack and defence as has been evidenced during pre-season. "The combinations look sometimes sharper now," said Slot on the difference in his side to last season. "We are able to create more but we are conceding at the moment more as well. If you want to compete to win the league, you cannot concede these chances. "We conceded too much today to win the game." Palace were a constant threat with balls in behind the Reds' defence and levelled again 13 minutes from time. Sarr sped onto Adam Wharton's through ball and calmly slotted past Alisson for his fourth goal in seven games against Liverpool and sent the game to a shootout without extra-time. In a routine telecom company practice, a mobile number that usually remains inactive for nearly six months is reallocated to someone else

How destiny sometimes rings for you is surprising. A technical glitch has recently resulted in some of the greatest cricket players, including Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, calling on one of RCB captain Rajat Patidar’s old phone numbers, only for a Chhattisgarh youth to answer it, much to everyone’s amusement. In a routine telecom company practice, a mobile number that usually remains inactive for nearly six months is reallocated to someone else; the same happened with one of Patidar’s unused numbers, which is now in the name of a 21-year-old Manish Bisi from Madgaon village in Chhattisgarh. The incident came to light after Manish Bisi began receiving a flurry of calls from some high-profile names from the cricketing world, Gariaband SP Nikhil Rakhecha said in an official statement. He said it was a WhatsApp number that wasn’t used for some time but has now been reallocated to the original owner, the RCB skipper. In a shocking development coming out of Indian Cricket, the star duo of ODI captain Rohit Sharma and batting great Virat Kohli have lost their rights to be an automatic choice in the 50-over format, especially for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The batting pair of Kohli and Rohit, who have retired from two formats (Tests and T20Is), only remains available for selection in the One-Dayers. Despite their credentials, history, and even considering their role in helping Indian cricket taste success at the top level, both will have to tick a few parameters to stay in contention for a spot in India’s WC squad.&nbsp;A Dainik Jagran report states that Virat and Rohit do not fit in BCCI’s plan for the next ODI World Cup, beginning more than two years later. Since both are in their late 30s and do not play more than just one format, the BCCI and the decision makers are concerned about them maintaining their fitness and form leading into the major ICC event. The report further states that for both to stay in line for a World Cup spot, they must feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, or the doors are likely closed.&nbsp; Also read | <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/when-gautam-gambhir-shubman-gill-paid-no-heed-to-match-referee-threat-in-quest-for-oval-test-win-ind-vs-eng-2025-1754745371057">When Gambhir, Gill paid no heed to match referee’s threat in quest for Oval Test win</a> &nbsp;"Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not fit in our plans for the ODI World Cup 2027," the report quoted an Indian cricket team source as saying. &nbsp; There is more to it.&nbsp; &nbsp; The report also states that both were keen on playing the England Test series, but after learning about the selectors' plans, they decided to announce their Test retirements. &nbsp; However, with India’s next ODI assignment scheduled against Australia in October, Virat and Rohit could decide to hang up their boots around then, bringing curtains down on their respective international careers as both are unlikely to feature in the domestic tournaments.<h3>What is next for India’s ODI cricket? &nbsp;</h3>With all the onus on Virat, Rohit and their potential retirement calls, the BCCI seemed to have locked in newly-appointed Test captain Shubman Gill as Rohit’s successor in the ODIs.
