A 33-year-old para-athlete of national caliber and another man succumbed to rabies in Odisha's Bolangir, days after they had been bitten by a rabid dog, the police said. The victims — athlete Jogendra Chhatria and 48-year-old farmer Hrushikesh Rana — had received serious injuries on July 23 when the dog turned ferocious, biting six individuals, including school children, in different incidents during the day. Witnesses reported the dog attacked unprovoked. Chhatria was badly injured in his face. Four of the wounded recovered while Chhatria and Rana's conditions deteriorated, and they died despite intensive medical care. The SA20 (South Africa's premier T20 cricket league) is getting ready for its fourth season and former South African all-rounder Chris Morris recently shared his views on the upcoming players auction, scheduled to take place on 9 September, 2025 in Johannesburg. With the recent rise of aggressive young talent in South African cricket, this year’s auction is expected to be the most competitive in the history of the tournament. A total of 84 spots are open and the league has added the RTM (Right to Match) card in the auction. The RTM card allows a team to retain a player they previously released by matching the highest bid for that player. Chris Morris, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming auctions and said that the auctions are always exciting, but the SA20 is the big one because many big players are back in the pool. “The auction is always exciting, no matter the tournament, but SA20 is the big one, with most of the players back in the pool. There have been a lot of retentions and several wild cards picked up, so it will be interesting to see how the teams go about building their squads. Some teams have plenty of money to spend, while others have already filled half their squads and don’t have much left in the purse.” he was quoted saying to SuperSport. This means a lot of domestic players will be putting their hands up this season, and they’re likely to get opportunities because of the financial dynamics at play. I’ve already started my homework, looking at the teams, the squads, and who’s available, and I have a few ideas of where players might land. It’s a great time of the year, and SA20 is going to be even bigger this season," he added. Morris further tipped about South African batter, Aiden Markram, who is not retained by Sunrisers Eastern Cape (his previous team in SA20) as one of the most in-demand players in the upcoming auction. “Sunrisers haven’t retained him, but they do have a right-to-match card, meaning they can match the final bid for him and retain his services. That opens the door for mind games — other teams could bid aggressively to push his price high enough to make it difficult for the Sunrisers to bring him back.”

"Two teams stand out to me: MI Cape Town, which would solve their captaincy question — not that Rashid Khan is doing a bad job — but having a successful local international captain at number four would be a big boost, especially since they’ve released Rassie van der Dussen, leaving a vacancy at number three. The other is Pretoria Capitals, who have one of the largest remaining purses. He’s a local player, would fill their captaincy role, slot in at number three, and bring strong leadership after Rilee Rossouw’s stint last year. Either way, Aiden Markram is going to be hot property," Morris added. According to reports, last year, about 600 players signed up for the auction, and it is expected that the number could be even higher this year. Several big names including Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow are already confirmed by the teams for the tournament.

The 2026 SA20 auction will take place on September 9 in Johannesburg. Players have to register them before August 18 for the tournament.

It is the first time PSG, or indeed any French club, have lifted the Super Cup, as they take their tally of trophies won in 2025 to five.

European champions Paris Saint-Germain began the new season by lifting more silverware on Wednesday (Aug 13) as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup after producing a late comeback to draw the match 2-2. Spurs looked set to get their hands on the trophy in their first competitive match under new coach Thomas Frank as they led 2-0 just after half-time at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy. Micky van de Ven gave last season's Europa League winners the lead on 39 minutes and Cristian Romero got their second goal three minutes into the second half. However, PSG were rescued by two substitutes as Lee Kang-in pulled a goal back in the 85th minute and Goncalo Ramos headed in the equaliser four minutes into injury time. That meant a penalty shoot-out, although it started badly for PSG when Vitinha put their first kick wide. Frank's debut defeat They only began pre-season training a week ago and played no friendly matches before this game. PSG now begin the new Ligue 1 campaign on Sunday away to Nantes, while Spurs will turn their attentions to the start of the Premier League season as they take on Burnley at home on Saturday. "I think we played a very good game against one of the best teams in the world -- maybe the best in this moment in time," Frank told TNT Sports. "I am so proud of the team, the players, the club, the fans. I think there is a lot to be happy with. It is a flip of a coin when you go into a penalty shoot-out." As well as Frank making his debut on the bench, new signings Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha both started for Spurs. Chevalier made his debut in goal for PSG following his arrival from Lille, a move which has sidelined Italy 'keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Luis Enrique's team. The 23-year-old was called into action to tip over a Richarlison shot midway through the first half but he could not prevent Van de Ven giving the Premier League side the lead as the interval approached. Chevalier did tip a Palhinha shot onto the bar after Spurs sent a ball into the Paris area, but there was nothing the goalkeeper could do to stop Dutch defender Van de Ven scoring the follow-up. The new signing was then culpable as Tottenham scored again just after the break, with Chevalier too easily beaten by a header from the unmarked Romero. It looked like it would not be PSG's night as Bradley Barcola had an effort disallowed for an offside midway through the second half, but they saved the day with a remarkable late show. Lee controlled a Vitinha pass before firing low into the far corner from the edge of the box, and Ramos then equalised in the 94th minute by heading in a driven ball across the face of goal by Dembele, setting PSG up for penalties. "We had a team plan from before. We just tried to execute it to the best of our ability. The analyst and the bowling coach just showed me the line that works in ODI cricket. I am working on it. We wanted to keep the stumps in play. The pitch was a little up and down. Especially in ODI cricket, I have learnt the length to bowl. It takes a lot of time and training. We keep our loads high, and it is paying off," Seales was quoted saying after winning the Player of the Match award. Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan, however, praised Seales, conceding that the pacer gave his side trouble throughout the entire series. "We understood this was the third game given that a Test across four innings was played on this deck. The momentum in the last 10 overs took it away as we were on top for the first 40 overs. We thought 220 was chaseable here. The credit goes to them. Credit to Hope. The execution was good but the edges went in their favour. Hope batted well and played some good shots. We had Ayub and Salman bowling. We thought Abrar would come and bowl. But Hope batted well and hence he didn't complete his overs. Seales was bowling well. He troubled us through the series. We needed partnerships and needed to spend some time," he said.

Former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia said that he "feels sorry" for Khalid Jamil, who has taken the reins of the national football side during challenging times for the sport in the country, and opined that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) selected him because he won't impose too many demands.Jamil, who has been hired to replace Spaniard Manolo Marquez, is the first Indian in 13 years to become head coach of the senior national team. I (feel) sorry for him as well, as he is taking charge of the team when it’s in a very difficult situation,” he added. Jamil was appointed over Stephen Constantine and Stefan Tarkovic. Targeting AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey, Bhutia said, "For Kalyan, he (Jamil) is the right man because Indian coaches don't expect much. “At the same time, he is saying that there are financial problems, and today the federation has gone into such a bad situation that we don’t have money to pay the coaches as well.” Chaubey had only recently admitted that club football is "undergoing a crisis" from the uncertainty of the Indian Super League while blaming the situation on "some vested interest self-claimed reformers".Bhutia also expressed concerns with how the federation has handled administrative issues. “When the Supreme Court appointed the ad-hoc committee to run the federation for the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, the federation should have asked the SC whether we can run it, or we should have a new body." “That delay of three years clashed with the MRA rights getting over. That timing could have been tackled much more before coming to this stage. They should have gone to the SC and asked. I have been saying this to find out whether this body can continue, which they did not do purposely,” Bhutia added. India will participate in the CAFA Nations Cup 2025, which begins on August 29 in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. “It’s a great tournament and good for the Indian team as well, but as I said that (Indian) football is in a mess. You should have sat with the ISL, FSDL (Football Sports Development Limited) and the new coach and then taken the call,” Bhutia said. “And when you start playing this tournament, and suddenly you are trying to play the Super Cup and ISL. Then how does that work? I think it’s going to be a total mess. “If tomorrow, ISL comes in and says we’re gonna start playing, then you will not have some of the best players playing for the club,” he signed off.
