The World Tennis League is only a few weeks away from its first season in India and tennis-lovers are already anticipating action-packed four days. From contrasting styles to pure entertainment, the WTL brings matchups that promise speed and unforgettable rallies. Here are five showdowns that every fan, from first-timers to tennis diehards, should watch out for. Daniil Medvedev vs Nick KyrgiosOne plays percentages; the other plays on instinct - when the two extremes collide, tennis gets explosive. Medvedev wears opponents out with his long rallies and unshakeable defence, while Kyrgios plays entirely on feel; explosive one moment, unpredictable the next, and always capable of pulling off something outrageous. When they face each other, the match becomes a mix of booming serves and tense passages of play. This action-packed rivalry ought to make the whole stadium sit up. Bopanna & Linette vs Bhambri & SvitolinaBopanna and Linette against Bhambri and Svitolina has all the ingredients of a tight, absorbing mixed-doubles battle. On one side, you get Bopanna’s experience and calm presence paired with Linette’s clean, precise shot-making. On the other hand, Bhambri brings younger flair and quick hands at the net, backed by Svitolina’s speed and relentless court coverage. It’s a matchup that feels perfectly balanced, with both pairs capable of swinging the momentum in an instant. Maaya Revathi vs Shrivalli Bhamidipaty This is one of those matchups that quietly sneaks up on you and ends up being a real treat. Maaya Revathi plays with a lot of heart; she hits big, takes her chances early, and goes for the bold shot. Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, on the other hand, brings a calmer, more thoughtful style to the court. She builds points patiently, reads the game well, and knows how to turn defence into attack. Put them on opposite sides and you get a clash of fresh energy versus composure. It’s also a glimpse into what the next chapter of Indian women’s tennis could look like, which is why this one is worth sitting down for. Gael Monfils vs Nick KyrgiosIf there’s one face-off guaranteed to have the crowd smiling from the first rally, this is it. Monfils’ acrobatics and humour blend perfectly with Kyrgios’ swagger and flair. Expect trick shots, crowd laughter, and moments you’ll replay for days. Together they will create a spectacle with crowd-pleasing shots, outrageous gets, and moments that feel more like athletic theatre, that’s exactly why people love it. Sumit Nagal vs Yuki BhambriTwo players. Two styles. One country watching closely - this one hits closer to home. Nagal brings firepower, intensity, and heavy baseline hitting, while Bhambri offers smooth technique and tactical sharpness. Their clash feels like a conversation between two tennis mindsets, making it a must-watch for home fans. Paula Badosa vs Elina SvitolinaThe ideal contrast between tennis philosophies can be found in this rivalry. Badosa strikes big and makes audacious swings at the ball while playing with explosive aggression. Svitolina uses top-notch movement to absorb, reroute, and defend. Their matches often become endurance tests, not just of fitness but of patience and belief.

The Pune Grand Tour 2026, India’s first-ever UCI 2.2 multi-stage road cycling race, today unveiled its heritage-inspired Trophy at an august gathering in New Delhi. The event brought together notable dignitaries at the national capital led by Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Smt. PT Usha unveiling the Pride of Pune. They were joined by Shri Pankaj Singh, President, Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Shri Jitendra Dudi (IAS), Pune District Collector, Shri Onkar Singh, Chairman CFI, and Shri Maninder Pal Singh, Secretary General, CFI on the occasion. Crafted by the coppersmiths of Pune, famously known as the Tambat Aali community, the Pune Grand Tour Trophy is a symbol of new India’s spirit, scale and ambition to achieve newer heights. Over the next 15-days, the glittering Trophy will travel across India covering Rajasthan, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra state, carrying a message that India is ready to take its place on the global cycling map with pride, ambition, and a race rooted in heritage. The Pune Grand Tour is a four-day, four-stage 437-km continental team men’s road race, expected to witness over 150 professional international cyclists from 26 countries in action, from 19 to 23 January 2026. The historic first UCI 2.2 race in India, is organised by the Government of Maharashtra and Pune District Administration, along with the Cycling Federation of India. Bespoke Trophy Design Some creations carry more than their form, and the Pune Grand Tour Trophy is one of them. It isn’t just copper shaped into an object; it holds the pulse of a sport, the grit of the athletes who chase its glory, and the memory of the land it comes from. The Pune Grand Tour trophy was imagined with all of that in mind. Its silhouette comes from the eight forts that sit along the race route, each a reminder of strategy, resilience, and the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Those forts don’t just mark geography; they represent the spirit that built Pune’s identity. Their influence appears in the trophy’s eightfold structure and in the eight-faced mudra, a quiet nod to the city’s heritage and the stories it carries forward. At its heart, the trophy opens into a swirling cavity; almost like a breath drawn inward- mirroring the shape of a velodrome. Anyone who has watched cyclists train here knows the rhythm: the steady rise of speed, the discipline, the repeated return to the same line until the movement becomes instinct. That inner vortex is a tribute to that process, that private battle every rider faces long before race day. The trophy is forged entirely from copper, honouring the craftsmen of Tambat Aali, who have spent generations perfecting a skill that requires both power and precision. The piece spans 480mm, but its real presence comes from the countless hammer strikes that form its surface. Each mark reflects the cadence of a cyclist pushing through fatigue, finding their rhythm, and refusing to fall out of motion. It is, in a way, a sculpture of perseverance.

Over the next 15-days, the glittering Trophy will travel across India covering Rajasthan, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra state, carrying a message that India is ready to take its place on the global cycling map with pride, ambition, and a race rooted in heritage.

Shaheen Afridi sends THIS warning to teammate Mohammad Rizwan ahead of BBL clash

In an utterly disastrous BBL debut for Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi, he was asked to stop his spell after bowling just 2.4 overs in Brisbane Heat’s 2025-26 clash against Melbourne Renegades. Afridi, making his Big Bash League debut, had a rough outing in Geelong. In the 18th over of the Renegades’ innings, he bowled two waist-high full tosses; one each to Tim Seifert and Ollie Peake, which were deemed dangerous, forcing Heat captain Nathan McSweeney to bowl the final two deliveries of the over. Afridi finished with figures of 0-43, including three no-balls and two wides, in a debut that started with promise but quickly turned into a nightmare. The young pacer initially showed control, bowling three dot balls in the second over, but struggled to maintain line and length as the innings progressed. He was brought back in the 13th over during the Renegades’ power surge, but conceded 19 runs before his horror 18th over. Mohammad Rizwan, Afridi’s Pakistan teammate, also made his BBL debut for the Renegades but had a quiet day with the bat, scoring only four runs before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Paddy Dooley. Meanwhile, Seifert and Peake punished the Heat attack, scoring 102 off 56 balls and 57 off 29 balls, respectively, helping the Renegades post a massive 212 for 5. Despite the tough start, Afridi remains a key figure for Pakistan cricket.
