Indian cricket has thrived on superstars emerging from ground zero, with batting mainstays like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, among others, being the pioneers. Though a few all-rounders and a handful of bowlers have attained legendary status, batters hold the highest value in this batsman-dominant country.

However, with India touring Australia for five Tests in the upcoming winters, all eyes will be on the young guns. The Indian Test batting line-up is undergoing transition, with veterans like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane out of the setup and youngsters vying to fill up their spots.

Upon being asked the Australian cricketers about their thoughts on who could headline Team India’s batting in times to come, several players picked openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal as their top choices.

Though the rookie left-hander Jaiswal won the most votes, those who played against Gill in the previous series Down Under picked him, knowing his mettle. The right-handed batter plays at number three in Tests, with Jaiswal rocking at the top order alongside Captain Rohit Sharma.

Gill made his Test debut during India’s last tour of Australia in 2020-21, which they won, and Jaiswal emerged in the Test arena during the home series against England earlier this year. The attacking opener impressed one and all with his exploits throughout, registering a mammoth 712 runs in five Tests, including two tons, with Gill scoring as many.

Meanwhile, in a video uploaded by Star Sports Tamil on its social media handles, the following Aussie stars picked the Indian players to look out for in the future.

  • Steve Smith – Yashasvi Jaiswal
  • Mitchell Starc - Yashasvi Jaiswal
  • Cameron Green – Shubman Gill

More players incoming

India’s talent pool and bench strength are enormous; going by how countless players are coming through the ranks, the Indian Team will be not short of future superstars.

While the top order is stacked with several options, Sarfaraz Khan and keeper batter Dhruv Jurel are making the right noises in the middle order.Even in the bowling attack, Akash Deep Singh is an upcoming name, while Washington Sundar remains in the scheme of things for an all-rounder.

Meanwhile, Team India is currently preparing for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting September 19 in Chennai. Kanpur will host the second Test from September 27 onwards.
