FIFA fever is catching up really quickly. The shocking exit of Germany and the last minute entry of Japan in the World Cup's last 16 on Thursday has now created more anticipation as to what will happen next.

1- The football carnival began with a sensational performance by Robbie Williams, followed by the first match between Russia and Saudi Arabia, where the hosts defeated Saudi 5-0 to open their campaign.
2- My personal favourite moment is when Cristiano Ronaldo struck tournament's first hat-trick against Spain.
3- The first-ever VAR (video assistant referee) aided penalty which was converted into a goal by French striker Antoine Griezmann.
4- Toni Kroos stunned Sweden with his last-minute sensational free-kick to give Germany its first win.
5- Another moment which made the group stages memorable was when Harry Kane hit a hat-trick for England against Panama.
6- Egyptian King Mohamad Salah scored his first World cup goal.
7- The tournament got its best moment when Lionel Messi scored his first and tournament's 100th goal against Nigeria.
8- Japan defeated Colombia to become the first Asian nation to register a win over a South American country.
