Steve Smith names THIS side to look out for in IPL 2024
Former Australia and Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Steve Smith has made his choice of 'the complete side' of IPL 2024. While many have named Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as their top favourites, Smith believes Sanju Samson-led RR are the team to look out for in the ongoing edition. Smith, who led the one-time winners Rajasthan in IPL 2020, feels the 2022 finalists have enough firepower to claim their second title this year.
Speaking on Star Sportsahead of RR's home game versus Delhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday (March 28), Smith said, "Home teams are winning at the moment. I am not ready for them to break the trend just yet. They (RR) look the complete team this year. They have got all the bases covered. Their spinners, I'm really keen to watch again. Chahal and Ashwin are outstanding. The two guys up top are potentially the two most destructive in the IPL. If they get going and have an incredible season, they will be hard to beat."
Smith also opined on skipper Samson, who ended as the Player-of-the-Match with an impressive 52-ball 82 in RR's season-opener versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Sunday (March 24).
Over the years, Samson has been a huge name in the IPL and a regular for RR. However, hehas had a tendency to start the season with a bang, with his willow, beforefading away towards the end.
Smith feels that this could be something which is on Samson's mind but stated that the RR captain looks in a good space at the moment.

The Aussie cricketer added, "He played beautifully, got them the win. He seems to be playing well, looks to be in a very good place. He looks comfortable. He is striking the ball really well. I think his captaincy was outstanding and he would want to continue that form. His seasons in the past have tapered off a bit in the end, and that will be weighing on his mind. To keep that standard up and leading from the front."
RR started IPL 2024 with a 20-run win over Lucknow and will hope to make it two wins in a row on Thursday evening, when they host Rishabh Pant-led DC.
