On Tuesday (Aug 6), Neeraj Chopra's 89.34m throw took him to the men's javelin final in the Paris Olympics 2024 edition. In the qualifiers, all eyes were on India's superstar javelin thrower, and the 26-year-old didn't disappoint. The youngster impressed one and all as he made it to the next roundin his very first attempt in the qualifiers on Tuesday. Justlike he did in the Tokyo Olympics,Chopra surpassed the automatic qualifying mark of 84m in his opening throw to take the top spot in Group B.

Earlier in the day, the other Indian in the fray, Kishore Jena, bowed out of contention with an ordinary throw of 80.73m, making it a 12-man final. With this, all hopes rest on Chopra's shoulders, as the whole of India is once again hoping for the elusive gold from him in the Games. Courtesy of his confident start, the javelin thrower also brushed aside all injury concerns after revealing thathe had been battling an adductor niggle in the run-up to the Games.

From the same group, Chopra's rival Arshad Nadeem, of Pakistan, also entered the finals with an impressive throw of 86.59m in Group B. In addition, Grenada veteran Anderson Peters made it to the final round with a throw of 88.63m.
So far, India has won only three medals (all bronze) in the Paris Games. Hence, all eyes are on Chopra to add a gold medal to India's tally with another rollicking performance in the final round, to be held on Thursday (Aug 8). The superstar javelin thrower has a great chance to win two successive gold medals at the Olympics.
