IPL 2024: Injured or dropped? RCB's Glenn Maxwell to miss SRH clash - Report

It has been a catastrophic Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Glenn Maxwell as he struggles to find form. While Maxwell has three ducks in the IPL 2024, RCB will now have a major reason to drop the Australian all-rounder from their Playing XI after a reported thumb issue sustained during the Mumbai Indians clash. The Australian World Cup winner has scored 32 runs in six innings and averages a miserable 5.33 which was already a matter of concern for the management.
Maxwell to miss SRH clash?
According to multiple media reports, Maxwell has injured his right thumb during the MI clash where RCB lost by seven wickets and 27 balls to spare. It is now reported that RCB won’t field Maxwell in the match and will instead bring back countryman Cameron Green in his place. While injury is considered a major reason for his possible omission in the Sunrisers Hyderabad clash which takes place on Monday (April 15), it is thought that Maxwell’s poor form was already enough to drop him from the Playing XI.
Maxwell’s scores this season make a phone number reading – 0, 3, 28, 0, 1, 0 and sum up his poor IPL 2024 campaign. Interestingly, with the ball, he has four wickets and has not contributed greatly while in fielding.
His unavailability (if he does not play vs SRH) won’t be a major issue with Green set for a return in a similar role. In three away matches this season, Maxwell has scored only one run which was against Rajasthan Royals (RR) last Saturday.

Poor time for RCB
The defeat on Thursday against Mumbai was RCB’s fifth of the season, the most by any team in the IPL 2024. They could go bottom of the table if Delhi Capitals win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday, piling more misery on RCB. The South Indian side’s only win of the season came in their opening home match against Punjab Kings on March 25 and have since gone winless.
