The Indian Premier League (IPL) commission fined Mumbai Indians (MI) duo Kieron Pollard and Tim David on Saturday (April 20) for breaching the spirit of cricket. The fine comes a day after captain Hardik Panday was also slapped with an offence relating to slow overrate in their contest against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The fine will have ramifications on the duo's involvement in their upcoming IPL match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) which takes place on Monday at the Sawai Mansing Stadium.

Mumbai duo fined

Article 2.20 states: "When assessing the seriousness of the offence, the context of the particular situation, and whether it was deliberate, reckless, negligent, avoidable and/or accidental, shall be considered. Further, the person lodging the Report shall determine where on the range of severity the conduct lays, with the range of severity starting at conduct of a minor nature (and hence a Level 1 offence) up to conduct of an extremely serious nature (and hence a Level 4 offence)."

Itis reportedthat both David and Pollard havebeen fined20 percent of their total match feeshavingcommitted a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20, which covers all types of conductthat are contrary to the spirit of the game.

During the PBKS vs MI match,it was seenthat Tim David and Kieron Pollard directed their side to take a review for the wide ball. The incident happened on the fifth ball of the 15th over and did not gogoodwith the PBKS teamasMI got technical assistance from the sidelines.

The incident was reportedto match referee Sanjay Vermaafterwhich both Pollard and David accepted their charges. Both were sanctioned for the incident and will face no further action ahead of theteam’sclash against Rajasthan Royals.

The win against PBKS on Thursday wasMI’sthird of the IPL 2024 season. Theywill now look for another winon Monday against Rajasthan Royals. RR have lost only one match so far in the IPL 2024whichwasagainst Gujarat Titans. RR had beaten MI earlier in the season in a one-sided contest at the Wankhede Stadium. SoMIwill have revenge on their cards on Monday
