Team India sits in the driver’s seat with the second innings lead of 308 during the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. After dismissing Bangladesh on 149 inside two sessions on day two, India batted again in the second innings, with their scorecard reading 81/3 at stumps. The hosts lost Captain Rohit Sharma, his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal and star batter Virat Kohli late in the final session.
Ashwin and Jadeja began proceedings on day two aiming to add more runs to the team’s tally. Bangladesh’s experienced pacer Taskin Ahmed broke the stand by removing Jadeja on 86 before running through the tail, including picking Ravi Ashwin on 113, to wrap up India’s first innings on 376.
Hasan Mahmud, who picked up four wickets earlier, bagged his maiden five-wicket haul in India, becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler to achieve this feat.

Bangladesh’s first innings got off to a poor start, with ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah striking in his first over. While he and Siraj were right on the money with the new ball, setting up for the bowlers to come, Akash Deep made the most of this chance by picking two wickets off two balls, putting Bangladesh’s back against the wall.

Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das added 51 for the sixth wicket but failed to hold onto the stand, as Jadeja removed them, helping India get back on the track. Bumrah and Siraj then ran through the lower order to end Bangladesh’s innings on 149.
The star duo of Rohit and Kohli failed to put up runs on the board in the first Test, returning to the pavilion cheaply in the second innings.
While Taskin removed Rohit, caught in the slips on five, Mehidy Hasan removed Kohli, trapped in the front on 17; he didn’t review the call, though the replays showed the ball touched the bat.
Shubman Gill (33*) and Rishabh Pant (12*) are at the crease, with the hosts cruising ahead in this Chennai Test.
