England bowlers bundled out South Africa for their third-lowest total in ODIs before openers secured the ten-wicket win
England Women started their ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 campaign with a confident 10-wicket victory over South Africa Women at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Friday (Oct 3). Chasing a modest target of 70, openers Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones displayed calmness and skills and helped their team to win the match without losing any wicket. Earlier, Linsey Smith took three wickets as England bundled out South Africa for just 69. Only wicketkeeper-batter Sinalo Jafta (22) managed to reach double digits for South Africa, as the rest of the line-up crumbled.

What happened in the match?
After winning the toss and chose to bowl first, England Women dominated South Africa Women and bowled them out for just 69 runs in 20.4 overs. The Proteas batters struggled and only wicketkeeper-batter Sinalo Jafta managed to reached double figures (22). For England Women, Linsey Smith led the attack with three wickets for just seven runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean also played key roles and took two wickets each.
Chasing only 70, England's batters chased the target easily without losing any wicket. Openers Tammy Beaumont (21 not out) and Amy Jones (40 not out from 50 balls) batted calmly and confidently to seal the victory for their team.
England Women will now look to carry this momentum into their next ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 matches. While, South Africa Women will need to improve both their batting and bowling to stay alive in the tournament.
