COVID-19: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi tests positive

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi,61, tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, reports said.

Abbasi was the prime minister of Pakistan from August 2017 to May 2018. The former Pakistan prime minister has quarantined himself at his home.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president had reportedly tested on Sunday and the results were declared on Monday.

PPP MPA Sharjeel Memon had earlier announced he had tested positive for coronavirus. Earlier, PML-N leader Mian Naveed Ali had also tested positive for the virus including minister of state for Narcotics Shehryar Afridi.

Several political leaders in Pakistan have tested positive for the virus including ANP’s Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Sindh education minister Saeed Ghani and  Sindh Governor Imran Ismail.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country has been surging in the country with over 103, 6700 cases. The death toll in the country due to COVID-19 has gone up to over 2,000.
