A shocking incident was reported in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh where a woman was arrested for torturing her husband. The woman, identified as Mehar Jahan from UP's Bijnor, was arrested on Sunday (May 5) after her husband filed a complaint, according to media reports. The man said that Jahan drugged him, tied him, and burnt his body parts with a cigarette.

A report by India Today on Monday said that the husband gave police footage which showed Jahan physically assaulting him. As per the report, the man claimed he had filed a complaint with the police earlier too, accusing his wife of abusing him.

In the latest police complaint, the man said that he started living separately from his family at the behest of his wife. Just a few days after the marriage, the man discovered that his wife was an alcoholic and smoked cigarettes.

The India Today report said the Bijnor police registered a case against Jahan under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). She was taken into custody. The police also said that further action was being taken.
