US to remove Indian nuclear entities from restricted list

Outgoing United States (US) National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan, who is on a visit to India, said on Monday (Jan 6) that Washington was finalising the necessary steps to remove the long-standing regulations that prevented civil nuclear cooperation between India's leading nuclear entities and American companies.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, US NSA Sullivan said, "Although former president Bush and former PM Dr Manmohan Singh laid out a vision of civil nuclear cooperation nearly 20 years ago, we have yet to fully realise it."
"But as we work to build clean energy technologies to enable growth in artificial intelligence, and to help US and Indian energy companies unlock their innovation potential, the Biden administration has determined that it is past time to take the next major step in cementing this partnership," he added.

Sullivan pointed out over the last four years, and he and Doval developed a "deep personal and professional relationship."

<h2>HMPV case in Kolkata</h2>
A case of HMPV virus has been reported in Kolkata in a five and a half-month-old child. Reportedly, the child arrived from Mumbai and fell ill, having flu-like symptoms. A medical test revealed the HMPV virus and the child was treated in a private hospital.&nbsp;
<h2>HMPV cases in Karnataka</h2>
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) confirmed the two cases of the HMPV virus in Karnataka on Sunday (Jan 6).
According to the statement by the Health Ministry, a 3-month-old infant was diagnosed with the virus after being admitted to Baptist Hospital in Bengaluru. She had a history of bronchopneumonia and has been since discharged.

The first case of the HMPV virus in Gujarat surfaced hours later.&nbsp;
The case has been reported in a 2-month-old child with symptoms of cold and fever. The child was brought from a village near Modasa to Ahmedabad due to a decline in health and has been found healthy after being treated in a private hospital.
&ldquo;Union Health Ministry is monitoring the situation through all available surveillance channels. ICMR will continue to track trends in HMPV circulation throughout the year. The World Health Organization (WHO) is already providing timely updates regarding the situation in China to further inform ongoing measures,&rdquo; the ministry said in the statement.&nbsp;

Human Metapneumovirus is a respiratory virus which can affect individuals of all age groups, especially children and senior citizens and those with weak immune systems. The virus was first detected by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2001.
Common symptoms of the virus include cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath and nasal congestion. In some cases, it can also result in bronchitis or pneumonia.

The HMPV virus spreads through coughing and sneezing. Wearing a mask can help prevent the spread of the virus. It can also be transmitted by coming in direct contact with someone infected with it or touching things which are contaminated with the virus.
Wash hands frequently and use hand sanitiser to minimise the risk. Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose and mouth unless your hands are clean. Avoid sharing food and cover your nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing. Consult a doctor if you suspect being infected with the virus.

In a video on Instagram on Sunday (Jan 5), the content creator recounted the traumatic ordeal, detailing how he was forced into isolation for 40 hours by scammers and lost both his money and mental well-being.
&ldquo;I've been missing from social media and everywhere for the last three days because I was held hostage by some scammers," he said in the video.
&ldquo;I'm still in a little bit of a shock. I've lost money. I lost my mental health to this. I can't believe that this happened to me.&rdquo;

The cybercriminals then connected him to a fake police official on a WhatsApp video call. He was interrogated and told that he had charges of money laundering, drug trafficking, and other serious crimes.
<h2>&lsquo;Self custody&rsquo; by scammers</h2>
&ldquo;You are a prime suspect in this national case,&rdquo; the officer told him, saying that he would be detained and subjected to abuse unless he cooperated with them. He was also told that he is now under &ldquo;self-custody&rdquo; for 40 hours.
&ldquo;They isolated me completely,&rdquo; Bahuguna said.
&ldquo;I couldn't contact anyone, pick up calls, or even check messages. They claimed I was under self-custody and that anything I did could be used against me.&rdquo;
The scammers forced him to remain trapped in the video call for 40 hours and forced him to show all notifications on his phone. They manipulated him into sharing sensitive information and forced him to make financial transactions under duress.

The US NSA will also hold meetings with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.
The two will discuss the implementation of iCET initiatives. Their talks will include cooperation in a range of areas like defence, strategic technology, space and shared security priorities in the Indo-Pacific region.
The initiative was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden in May 2022.
The two NSAs have highlighted the potential of iCET for strengthening the ties between India and US. In June last year, Doval emphasised the importance of being ahead with emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), biotechnology and semiconductors. This will help in protecting shared value systems.

The initiative was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden in May 2022. The two NSAs have highlighted the potential of iCET for strengthening the ties between India and US. In June last year, Doval emphasised the importance of being ahead with emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), biotechnology and semiconductors. This will help in protecting shared value systems. HMPV in India: Karnataka reports second case, ICMR confirms

Ramesh Bidhuri, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate from Delhi's Kalkaji constituency, came under heavy criticism for his recent remarks on Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and Aam Aadmi Party's Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena.
During a campaign event at Kalkaji for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, Bidhuri said, "Lalu [Prasad, RJD leader] had said that he will develop roads in Bihar as smooth as Hema Malini's cheeks. Lalu had lied. But I assure you just as we made the roads in Okhla and Sangam Vihar, we will make all the roads in Kalkaji, Sudhar camp and inner and outer roads like Priyanka Gandhi's cheeks."

Bidhuri is a former two-time Lok Sabha MP from South Delhi.

His comment triggered off a lot of attention and went viral on social media platforms.
According to a report on Hindustan Times newspaper, the Congress party candidate from the Kalkaji constituency, Alka Lamba, accused Bidhuri of "insulting" women using his "usual indecent language."
Lamba also demanded an apology from Bidhuri for the remarks against Gandhi.
She said, "Bidhuri ji should publicly apologise and the top leaders should clarify their opinion on this."
The BJP in a statement said that the party does not tolerate any type of disrespectful comments against women.
The party added that such remarks should not be made by any member or election candidate.
After facing criticism from his own party, Bidhuri issued a clarification.
In a post on X, he said, "What I said, I compared it with what was said earlier. When two people make mistake, both need to rectify. If Congress will rectify their mistake, the same will be done by us as well."
Bidhuri was referring to an old statement of Lalu Prasad Yadav against the actress and BJP MP from Mathura, Hema Malini.

In another campaign rally in Rohini, Bidhuri made controversial remarks against Delhi's current Chief Minister Atishi Marlena.

Delhi issues health advisory amid rising respiratory illness cases in China

ANI: In a mutual exchange of fishermen coordinated between the Indian Coast Guard and the Bangladesh Coast Guard, ICG Ship Varad and Amrit Kaur successfully repatriated 95 fishermen along with four Indian fishing boats while handing over 90 Bangladeshi fishermen, including 12 rescued from sunken fishing boat &ldquo;Kaushik&rdquo; on Sunday, as per an official statement.
The Indian fishermen are being handed over to West Bengal State Fisheries authorities at South 24 Parganas post repatriation from Bangladesh.

Earlier reports had said that local citizens in Meerut objected to unmarried couples frequently booking rooms in OYO hotels.
Hotels across the city have been asked not to allow unmarried couples seeking accommodation together. This is part of OYO's move toward compliance and conformity with local societal norms and sensitivities.
&ldquo;OYO is committed to upholding safe and responsible hospitality practices. While we respect individual freedoms and personal liberty, we also recognise our responsibility to listen to and work with the law enforcement and civil society groups in the micromarkets we operate in,&rdquo; said Pawas Sharma, Region Head, OYO North India, in a statement to PTI.

Mahakumbh:  Cyber expert advises caution with online bookings

An ISKCON temple employee in India's Vrindavan allegedly fled with lakhs of rupees along with a receipt book, said the officials on Saturday (Jan 4).
The accused has been identified as Murlidhar Das who was tasked with collecting money donated by devotees and depositing it with the temple authorities.
"An FIR was filed by the temple's Chief Finance Officer Vishwa Nam Das late on Friday night," news agency PTI quoted Superintendent of Police (City) Arvind Kumar as saying.
Murlidhar also stole the receipt book of the temple, according to the reports.
The Superintendent of Police said that the temple's chief finance officer submitted an application to SSP Shailesh Kumar Pandey on December 27 and informed him about the alleged theft.&nbsp;
Following this, a probe was conducted and an FIR was lodged.

According to the report, the FIR stated that Murlidhar is the son of Nimai Chand Yadav, who hails from Madhya Pradesh's Indore and is a resident of Sriram Colony, Rauganj Vasa.
The receipt book the accused fled with contained 32 sheets.
Earlier, in a similar incident, a person named Saurav fled with donation money as well as a receipt book, but he passed away before any of these could be recovered from him, said the PRO.

'Life sprouts in space'; ISRO successfully germinates cowpea seeds under microgravity conditions

In a weird incident, a bride left the wedding midway on the pretext of a visit to the washroom and disappeared along with the jewellery and cash, leaving the groom and his family shocked.&nbsp;
The incident took place at the wedding venue, a Shiv Temple, in Gorakhpur&rsquo;s Bharohiya in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh (UP). The 40-year-old groom, Kamlesh Kumar, was marrying for the second time after losing his first wife, according to an NDTV report.&nbsp;
Reportedly, Kamlesh, a farmer from Govindpur village of Sitapur district, also in UP, had paid Rs 30,000 in commission to the woman who had acted as a mediator to find this match for him.&nbsp;

In the Indian state of Gujarat, three officers of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) were killed on Sunday (Jan 5) afternoon after a helicopter crashed during landing at the Porbandar airport.
The accident happened at noon, around 12:10 pm, said Porbandar Superintendent of Police Bhagirathsinh Jadeja in a statement.

The three crew members, suffering from severe burns, were quickly taken to a Porbandar hospital after being extracted from the helicopter, he stated.

According to Inspector Rajesh Kanmiya of Kamala Baug police station, due to their severe injuries, all three ICG crew members passed away at the hospital.
According to the press release, "The Mortal remains of the crew viz. Commandant (JG) Saurabh, TM, Deputy Commandant SK Yadav and Manoj Pradhan Navik will be cremated as per service traditions and honour."
