Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 Live Updates: 'A very special day,' says PM Modi

"Devotees are continuously coming in large numbers, ghats are full. The number of people taking a holy dip will be analysed by the evening. The first day of Maha Kumbh is going on peacefully. We are keeping a watch on everything so that no miscreant can create problems for the devotees," said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kumbh, Rajesh Dwivedi.

"We are well poised to deal with any situation. A focus capability development for northern borders enabled the infusion of niche technology into a war-fighting system," the army chief said.

While speaking on Jammu and Kashmir, the army chief said that the situation there is currently under control, however, infiltration attempts from across the border are continuing.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Ceasefire along the Line of Control with Pakistan is holding up, but infiltration attempts are continuing,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;
General Dwivedi added that the terror infrastructure remains intact in Pakistan as they continue to support cross-border terrorism.&nbsp;

On being asked if the SP chief Akhilesh Yadav would visit the Maha Kumbh Mela, he said, "I have not spoken to him in this regard."
Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Ravindra Puri said that Mulayam Singh's statue was intended to remind the seers of the incidents when people from their community were "killed".
"We have no objection to Mulayam Singh's statue. He has been our chief minister. But what message do they (SP people) want to give by installing the statue at this time? Everyone knows what his contribution has been in the Ram temple movement. He has always been anti-Hindu, anti-Sanatan and in favour of Muslims," Puri said.
Mulayam, the founder of the Samajwadi Party, had a political career spanning over six decades. He also served as the Defence Minister of India and held the office of Uttar Pradesh chief minister three times.

A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly severing the udders of three cows in the Vinayaka Nagar area of Bengaluru city, the state capital of Karnataka, the police said, adding that he was remanded to judicial custody till January 24.
The accused has been identified as Syed Nasru (30) and is a resident of Champaran district of Bihar. According to the investigation carried out by police, the accused had committed this act under the influence of alcohol.
The police have registered a case against Syed Nasru under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

The 12-kilometre-long tunnel project was constructed at a cost of more than Rs 2,700 crore ($312 million), which comprises the 6.4-kilometre Sonamarg main tunnel, an egress tunnel and approach roads.

Built over 8,650 feet above sea level, the new route will improve the connectivity between Srinagar and Sonamarg en route to Leh.
The tunnel ensures all-weather access to the strategically critical Ladakh region, close to the China border, bypassing the landslides and avalanche-prone routes.
The newly constructed tunnel will also boost winter tourism, adventure sports and local livelihoods throughout the year in the Sonamarg region. Moreover, it will also benefit defence logistics and boost economic growth and social-cultural integration in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

A report by the news agency PTI said that the Tapti Ganga Express was travelling from Surat to Chhapra on Sunday when stones were thrown at the train near the Jalgaon Railway Station in Maharashtra.

The attack occurred around two to three kilometres after the train left the station. The windows of the train's B6 coach were damaged.

The contract killers ended up murdering Rizwan in the Madehganj area mistakenly.

The 'Anubhuti Mandapam' will provide visitors with a unique sensory experience. Over 230 master craftsmen will demonstrate India's traditional art forms.
Visitors can also enjoy authentic Indian cuisines at state-specific food stalls and vibrant performances by more than 14,630 cultural artists. Several competitions and interactive activities will also be organised, Shekhawat added.
For pilgrims, arrangements have been made for air travel to significant spiritual destinations such as Ayodhya, Kashi, and Mathura.

In a message posted on social media, she wrote, &ldquo;I worked 100 hours a week for four months on my first project. Eighteen hours a day, with one day off, and I was miserable 90% of the time.&rdquo;

She added, &ldquo;I cried in office bathrooms, ate chocolate cake at 2 a.m., and was hospitalized twice. Most importantly, I may have been at work for 100 hours, but I was not productive in those hours.&rdquo;
In her message, she also criticised those who rewarded appearances over output. She also stressed why mental health and family responsibilities must not be overlooked in such discussions.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra also chimed in, arguing the focus required to be placed on quality of work and not quantity. &ldquo;One can change the world in 10 hours,&rdquo; he said.

New Delhi: India&rsquo;s state-owned shipbuilding entity, Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), is reaching out to countries in Southeast Asia, especially Vietnam, amid the Indian government&rsquo;s push to establish the country as a major defence products exporter and manufacturing centre. Negotiations are underway with the Vietnam People&rsquo;s Navy (VPN) for submarine refits. Other than Vietnam, the shipyard is looking to explore opportunities in the Philippines. HSL, which is among India&rsquo;s largest shipyards, is headquartered in Visakhapatnam and has attracted international business by repairing foreign vessels.

For example, in 2021, they docked and repaired a US pipe-laying vessel with a gross tonnage of 17,000T, something that highlights the state-owned entity&rsquo;s capacity to handle large foreign vessels and also contributes to their revenue through foreign exchange earnings. The state-owned company, which has been a strategic builder, has had a rich history of developing platforms for the Indian Navy, which includes building naval ships and repairing submarines. In fact, one of the first ships built indigenously for the Indian Navy was by this company. In 2020, it delivered advanced state-of-the-art platforms like the Ocean Surveillance Ship (OSS), &lsquo;INS Dhruv', which is India&rsquo;s first nuclear missile-tracking vessel, for the Indian Navy.

Both vessels underwent successful sea trials in May 2024, completing rigorous tests without significant defects.

PM Modi pays homage to Swami Vivekananda on 163rd birth anniversary

Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Saturday (Jan 11) said that it has identified two Ukrainian nationals as key suspects in orchestrating the Torres jewellery Ponzi scam. According to NDTV, Artem and Olena Stoin, the two accused have defrauded hundreds of investors.
The scheme promised high returns on investments in gemstones, gold, and silver, luring individuals from the lower middle class, including small traders and vendors.
The scam came to light after six Torres jewellery stores abruptly closed last week, leaving investors with unpaid dues. Following complaints, the police registered cases against Platinum Hern Private Limited, the parent company, and several individuals, including its directors, CEO, general manager, and a store in-charge.
Charges include cheating, criminal conspiracy, and related offences.
Torres jewellery outlets, launched in February 2023 across six locations in Mumbai and surrounding areas, sold gemstone jewellery and promoted a bonus investment scheme. Customers investing Rs 1 lakh were promised a moissanite pendant worth Rs 10,000 and weekly returns of up to 11 per cent. Investors reported receiving some payouts initially, but payments ceased two months ago. Police investigations later revealed that the gemstones provided were fake.
In a final push to attract funds, Torres uploaded a video on January 5 promising an 11 per cent return for investments made before the deadline, with rates dropping afterwards. Many investors made last-minute cash payments, only to find the stores shuttered the following day.
The scheme also used luxury cars as prizes in lucky draws to entice more participants. Investigators are examining these vehicles, suspecting they were leveraged to boost credibility and attract additional investments.
The scam has affected hundreds of small-scale investors, with reported losses ranging from a few thousand rupees to crores. Seven complainants claim to have collectively invested over Rs 13 crore. Many victims expressed frustration, citing the presence of GST and CIN details on the company&rsquo;s documents, which they believed lent credibility to the scheme.
In a video uploaded to Torres' official YouTube account, the company alleged that its CEO, Tausif Reyaz, and Chief Analyst, Abhishek Gupta, orchestrated a coup and looted company stores. The video showed scenes of vandalism, claiming the duo and their "accomplices" were involved in systematically misappropriating company funds for months.
Authorities are now working to trace the Stoin duo, believed to have been instrumental in devising the scheme. The investigation continues, with efforts focused on recovering funds and holding those responsible accountable.

Torres jewellery outlets, launched in February 2023 across six locations in Mumbai and surrounding areas, sold gemstone jewellery and promoted a bonus investment scheme. Customers investing Rs 1 lakh were promised a moissanite pendant worth Rs 10,000 and weekly returns of up to 11 per cent. Investors reported receiving some payouts initially, but payments ceased two months ago. Police investigations later revealed that the gemstones provided were fake. In a final push to attract funds, Torres uploaded a video on January 5 promising an 11 per cent return for investments made before the deadline, with rates dropping afterwards. Many investors made last-minute cash payments, only to find the stores shuttered the following day. The scheme also used luxury cars as prizes in lucky draws to entice more participants. Investigators are examining these vehicles, suspecting they were leveraged to boost credibility and attract additional investments. The scam has affected hundreds of small-scale investors, with reported losses ranging from a few thousand rupees to crores. Seven complainants claim to have collectively invested over Rs 13 crore. Many victims expressed frustration, citing the presence of GST and CIN details on the company’s documents, which they believed lent credibility to the scheme. In a video uploaded to Torres' official YouTube account, the company alleged that its CEO, Tausif Reyaz, and Chief Analyst, Abhishek Gupta, orchestrated a coup and looted company stores. The video showed scenes of vandalism, claiming the duo and their "accomplices" were involved in systematically misappropriating company funds for months. Authorities are now working to trace the Stoin duo, believed to have been instrumental in devising the scheme. The investigation continues, with efforts focused on recovering funds and holding those responsible accountable.
