Notably, around 5892 Yatris reached Kashmir.The official data suggested that out of 5892 total pilgrims, 3403 pilgrims decided to take the traditional Pahalgam route while 2489 decided to take the Baltal axis. All the Yatris were brought along with a convoy which consisted of 310 vehicles, including 124 buses,42 medium motor vehicles, and 144 light motor vehicles.The first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims was welcomed in the Kashmir Valley with floral garlands. Upon arriving in the Kashmir Valley, the pilgrims were received with a rousing welcome from locals and the administration in districts such as Kulgam, Anantnag, Srinagar, and Bandipora. Local Muslims, alongside police, civil society members, trade fraternities, fruit growers, and market associations, greeted the yatris with garlands and cheers, reflecting Kashmir’s tradition of communal harmony and hospitality.The numbers clearly indicate that faith has overpowered the terror. Some of the Yatris said that bullets and bombs can’t break our faith. The pilgrims this year after the Pahalgam attack have chosen the Pahalgam route instead of the Baltal.Authorities had earlier said that after the Pahalgam attack, there was a drop of 10 percent in the registrations. However, the confidence among the pilgrims has increased and there is a gradual increase due to the robust security measures.Jammu and Kashmir Police along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be guarding the Amarnath Yatra routes this year.Around 42,000 security personnel are deployed in Pahalgam alone, while an additional 50,000 CRPF jawans will protect the convoy of pilgrims on both sides from Jammu to the holy cave along the national highway.The Amarnath Yatra has been upgraded with all the hi-tech gadgetry and AI-based facial recognition systems this year. For the first time ever, the data of active terrorist and OGWs and other blacklisted peoples have been fed in the system. The respective State Cyber Police units have been alerted, thereby preventing further financial exploitation by the scammers, said the Tamil Nadu Police.&nbsp;&nbsp;According to the Tamil Nadu Police, their Data Analysis and Intelligence Operation, led by Shahnaz Illyas, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime Wing, identified mule accounts under the direct influence of Chinese scamsters. A banking mule account is one that is used to transfer illegally acquired money. Typically, criminals recruit money mules by offering them jobs such as ‘financial agent’ or ‘payment processor’ and offer them easy money for moving funds between accounts and keeping the information secret.&nbsp;Based on this initial information, the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing contacted the Fraud Risk Management Team of multiple banks and placed the suspected accounts under surveillance.&nbsp;“A thorough investigation into the suspicious banking activities linked to the cybercriminal gang uncovered several high-value transactions from outside the country. These findings point to the existence of an organised international fraud network operating with considerable sophistication,” said the police.&nbsp;They identified individuals from six different states who appeared to be victims of the fraud but had not yet filed formal complaints, indicating that the exploitation is ongoing and possibly expanding. Earlier, the ride-hailing firms could charge up to 1.5 times the base fare during peak hours. The revised rules also state that non-peak hour charges could not be less than 50 per cent of the base rates. The states have been advised to adopt the fresh guidelines within three months.&nbsp;According to the revised Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025 released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), “The base fare chargeable shall be for a minimum of 3 km to compensate for dead mileage including the distance travelled without a passenger and the distance travelled and fuel utilised for picking up the passenger.”&nbsp;No passenger can be charged for dead mileage unless in case when the ride distance is less than three kilometres. The guidelines added that the fare shall be charged only from the point the journey starts to the destination point, the drop-off location of the passenger.&nbsp;The fresh rules also state that if a driver cancels a booking without specifying a reason after accepting a journey on the app, a penalty of 10 per cent of the fare, with a cap of Rs 100, will be imposed. The penalty will be split between the driver and the aggregator. A similar fee will also be imposed on a passenger for cancelling a booking on the app.&nbsp;“With respect to motor vehicles owned by the aggregator the on-boarded driver shall receive at least 60 per cent of the fare applicable, including all costs specified in Driver Fare and the remaining charges shall be retained as the Apportioned Fare,” as per the revised guidelines.&nbsp;Aggregators are required to ensure that drivers have health insurance of at least Rs 5 lakh and term insurance of at least Rs 10 lakh. The Ministry stated that the new guidelines are aimed at providing a light-touch regulatory system while attending to issues of safety and security of the passengers and welfare of the drivers.

The disgusting statement of the defence lawyer came after the medical examination claimed that the marks on the accused's skin were scratch marks. All 24 crew members of the cargo ship had been rescued by the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy.&nbsp;&nbsp;The ship had in its tanks, 84.44 Metric tons of diesel and&nbsp;367.1 Metric tons of furnace oil. Following the sinkage, plastic pellets, shipping containers began washing along the Kerala coast, and some debris has also washed along parts of the Tamil Nadu coast.&nbsp;&nbsp;Shortly after the sinkage, the Kerala Government had declared the incident a State Disaster. "Considering the potentially serious environmental, social, and economic impact of the ship wreckage, the Government hereby declares the wreckage of ship M/s&nbsp;ELSA&nbsp;3&nbsp;in the Arabian sea 14.6 nautical miles off the Kerala coast as a State-Specific disaster," read a statement from Kerala's Disaster Management Department.&nbsp;The declaration of State Disaster indicates the severity of the incident, as Kerala is a popular hub for tourists, is rich in marine life and biodiversity, offers wide range of seafood, has among the highest seafood-consuming population in India.&nbsp;In the aftermath of the sinkage, the Indian Coast Guard carried out&nbsp;intensive surveillance and oil spill mitigation through air operations and deployment of Oil Spill dispersant Chemicals using specialized ship-borne equipment.<h2>MV Wan Hai 503 fire and salvage operations in June</h2>On Monday, 9th&nbsp;June, Singapore-flagged Merchant Vessel&nbsp;Wan&nbsp;Hai, carrying containerized cargo was sailing from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Mumbai, India, when it reported onboard explosion while off Kerala, India. On being alerted about the evolving maritime distress situation in Indian waters, the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy deployed their ships and aircraft to render assistance and monitor the situation.The Indian Navy and Coast Guard rescued 18 of the ship's 22crew. According to the ICG, the ablaze cargo ship carries 2,128 metric tonnes of fuel, and hundreds of containers, including hazardous cargo. The Liberia-flagged container vessel was sailing on a day-long voyage between two ports in Kerala-from Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi, when it began to tilt sideways at noon, Saturday, 24th May. All 24 crew members of the cargo ship had been rescued by the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy. The ship had in its tanks, 84.44 Metric tons of diesel and 367.1 Metric tons of furnace oil. Following the sinkage, plastic pellets, shipping containers began washing along the Kerala coast, and some debris has also washed along parts of the Tamil Nadu coast. Shortly after the sinkage, the Kerala Government had declared the incident a State Disaster. "Considering the potentially serious environmental, social, and economic impact of the ship wreckage, the Government hereby declares the wreckage of ship M/s ELSA 3 in the Arabian sea 14.6 nautical miles off the Kerala coast as a State-Specific disaster," read a statement from Kerala's Disaster Management Department. The declaration of State Disaster indicates the severity of the incident, as Kerala is a popular hub for tourists, is rich in marine life and biodiversity, offers wide range of seafood, has among the highest seafood-consuming population in India. In the aftermath of the sinkage, the Indian Coast Guard carried out intensive surveillance and oil spill mitigation through air operations and deployment of Oil Spill dispersant Chemicals using specialized ship-borne equipment. MV Wan Hai 503 fire and salvage operations in June On Monday, 9th June, Singapore-flagged Merchant Vessel Wan Hai, carrying containerized cargo was sailing from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Mumbai, India, when it reported onboard explosion while off Kerala, India. On being alerted about the evolving maritime distress situation in Indian waters, the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy deployed their ships and aircraft to render assistance and monitor the situation. The Indian Navy and Coast Guard rescued 18 of the ship's 22crew. According to the ICG, the ablaze cargo ship carries 2,128 metric tonnes of fuel, and hundreds of containers, including hazardous cargo. For over a week, the Indian Coast Guard carried out firefighting operations and monitored the situation. Later, the ICG provided support to salvage and tow away the vessel.

Torrential rains triggered at least two massive landslides, cutting off the Yamunotri area, where the yatris had checked into hotels.&nbsp;Once rescued, the stranded pilgrims will be transported to a safer location in Rishikesh.&nbsp;The ordeal for these pilgrims continued as the hotels they stayed in ran out of food supplies in two days. So to escape starvation, they, along with 100 pilgrims, were driven in a private taxi to the nearest landslide point. Post that, they walked for approximately 6-7 kms, clearing debris on the way, crossing slippery mountain terrain and reached the nearest village bus depot.&nbsp;Now clear out of the danger zone, the pilgrims checked into another nearby hotel where there is enough necessary supplies like food and water. And the Uttarakhand government has directed them not to proceed till further notice.&nbsp;Meanwhile, on July 1, efforts were underway to restore the Yamunotri National Highway, which had been damaged by heavy rains and landslides in Uttarkashi district.&nbsp;While the restoration of the road is progressing rapidly, pilgrims visiting the Yamunotri Dham are being safely transported via a transhipment system from Ojri to Silai Band, where they continue their journey on foot.The Uttarakhand government further stated that the priority of the administration was to make road routes smooth as soon as possible and provide all possible assistance to the pilgrims and local citizens.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar had said that terrorists cannot be allowed to function with impunity. “The idea that they are on that side of the border, and that, therefore, sort of prevents retribution, I think, that’s a proposition that needs to be challenged, and that is what we did,” he said while referring to India’s Operation Sindoor and counter-terrorism efforts. The BJP shared a clip in which Bhunia is heard saying in Bengali, “The moment there is a small incident in Bengal, they say ‘look the state is gone, such destruction’... Yes, incidents happen and they happen within families too. Husbands are killing their wives, and wives are taking the help of their lovers to kill their husbands when they go on vacation. These are the crises of the society (sic).”&nbsp;The 24-year-old law student was allegedly raped at the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata’s Kasba area on June 25 by Monojit Mishra, a 31-year-old former student linked to the student wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress. Two students, Zaib Ahmed, 19, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, 20, and a security guard are also accused in the case, and all four have been arrested.&nbsp;

As many as 73% of all 1,172 non-marine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including those in India, are exposed to at least one severe water risk, with 21% of them facing the dual problems of having too much water one year and too little during another, shows a new analysis based on the World Resources Institute’s Aqueduct data (also called the water risk atlas). As per the analysis, heritage sites experiencing severe risks in India include the Taj Mahal, Kaziranga National Park, Western Ghats, Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram, and the Great Living Chola Temples.&nbsp;“Water stress is projected to intensify, most notably in regions like the Middle East and North Africa, parts of South Asia, and northern China—posing long-term risks to ecosystems, cultural heritage, and the communities and tourism economies that depend on them,” it added.Extreme weather events like hurricanes, droughts, floods, and heatwaves have become more frequent and intense as a result of rising temperatures.&nbsp;<h2>Taj Mahal faces water scarcity, says report</h2>&nbsp;The sites were most commonly threatened by water scarcity, while more than half of natural sites faced the risk of flooding from a nearby river, the Unesco study showed.In India, the Taj Mahal in Agra, for example, “faces water scarcity that is increasing pollution and depleting groundwater, both of which are damaging the mausoleum,” it said.In the United States, a massive flood closed down all of Yellowstone National Park in 2022 and cost over $20 million in infrastructure repairs to reopen.Iraq’s southern marshes, the reputed home of the biblical Garden of Eden, “face extremely high water stress and competition for water is expected to increase in the marshes, where migratory birds live and inhabitants raise buffalo, as the region grows hotter in coming years.&nbsp;In China, rising sea levels are leading to coastal flooding, which destroys mudlands where migratory waterbirds find food, it added.&nbsp;The combined pressures of infrastructure development and climate change pose a significant threat to both natural ecosystems and the cultural heritage they sustain, the analysis said.

The tribunal also justified the action of the police, saying, “Police personnel are also human beings. These Pilgrims say that they will take the Pahalgam traditional route of Amarnath Yatra to send across a message to terrorists that they will not bow down in front of terror.&nbsp;&nbsp;''We are not scared at all. There was some doubt when the attack had taken place and I had asked my family members if they would shut the Yatra, but they assured that no it won't be stopped. It was such a relief that Yatra was not closed down. The security forces made sure to keep the Yatra on. They have kept the check posts, and full arrangements for us. There is full proper security, and they are very friendly. I would ask everyone to come as security is full proof, '' said a Pilgrim.&nbsp;&nbsp;The devotees expressed firm faith in the arrangements made by the authorities for the holy pilgrimage, saying that bullets and bombs cannot stop us from coming.&nbsp;''We are not scared at all.
