It would allow the president to put tariffs on China and India and other countries to get them -- stop them from supporting Putin's war machine, to get him to the table," the US senator told ABC. Prior to the war, India, one of the largest oil-importing nations, used to meet most of its energy needs from the Middle East. However, the economic sanctions imposed by the US on Russia since the war paved the way for an alternate avenue for New Delhi as it started importing huge quantities of oil from Moscow at discounted prices. The enhanced trading helped Russia economically, which had been reeling under pressure exerted by several European nations by declining to purchase its oil.

Flight AI103, which took off from New Delhi at 12:45 am on Wednesday (Jul 2), was scheduled to depart for Washington the same day. However, the flight was cancelled due to a technical snag.&nbsp;“Flight AI103 from Delhi to Washington, DC, on July 2, 2025, made a planned fuel stop in Vienna. During routine aircraft checks, an extended maintenance task was identified, which required rectification before the next flight and, thus, additional time for completion,” an airline spokesperson was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.&nbsp;After experiencing the issue, the Vienna-Washington leg of the flight was cancelled as rectification of the issues was needed before the flight could take off. An Air India spokesperson said that passengers were disembarked. Those holding valid Schengen visas or eligible for visa-free entry were accommodated in hotels. The rest of the passengers were assisted based on immigration and security clearance procedures by the Austrian authorities.&nbsp;The Air India flight AI104, from Washington to Delhi via Vienna, was also cancelled. “Passengers have been rebooked on alternative flights to Delhi or offered full refunds based on their preferences,” the airline said.&nbsp;Air India expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and said it was acting in line with its voluntary enhanced pre-flight safety checks. “The carrier deeply regrets the inconvenience caused and remains committed to prioritising the safety of all passengers and crew,” the spokesperson said.&nbsp;In another incident, another Air India plane travelling from Delhi to Vienna experienced a technical snag. On Wednesday, the Mumbai Police opposed a writ plea in the Bombay High Court that Disha's father had filed, seeking a fresh investigation into her death. &nbsp;Salian, 28, died on June 8, 2020, at a residential building in suburban Malad, six days before Rajput’s death at his Bandra residence on June 14. Disha's father Satish Salian, in his petition seeking registration of an FIR based on a written complaint given by activist and lawyer Rashid Khan Pathan in January 2024 against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and transferring the probe to the CBI, claimed that he initially believed that the investigation was “genuine, but later found it to be a cover-up”. A senior officer of the Malvani police station sought a dismissal of the pleae and stated that a closure report had been filed in the case. The officer sated that the findings of a Special Investiogation Team (SIT) constituted in 2023 were &nbsp;consistant to findings of the earlier investigation. The officer added that the SIT is carrying out further investigation. However, petitioner Satish Salian, in his rejoinder to the police’s affidavit, claimed that the high court, on April 30, directed the state government, through its chief secretary, to file a reply to the plea. Instead, an “unauthorised and biased” response by a “conflicted officer” of the Malvani police was filed, he alleged. An affidavit in reply filed by Shailendra Raghunath Nagarkar, senior Police Inspector of the Malvani police station, stated that an accidental death report (ADR) was registered on June 9, 2020. After the probe, the then investigation officer filed a closure report, which a special executive magistrate accepted on February 4, 2021. The officer added that contentions in the father’s plea are “baseless and unfounded”, while maintaining that Disha Salian died by suicide. The officer further stated that the closure report was based on scientific investigation and post-mortem report indicated "no signs of sexual and/or physical assault”. Meanwhile, SIT set up in December 2023, reinvestigated the ADR and questioned witnesses and examined CCTV footage and reanalysed call detail records (CDR) of important witnesses&nbsp; “So far, the findings of SIT pertaining to the circumstances that caused deceased Disha Salian’s death are coherent with the finding of an earlier investigation officer of the said case. However, further investigation is still being carried out by the SIT,” the affidavit added. The police further said there was “no corroborative evidence to substantiate the claims raised in the petition” and there is “no room for suspicion as against the investigation” and there were” no grounds to initiate probe for allegations of gang rape. Meanwhile, Aaditya Thackeray, through an intervention application, sought to be heard in the matter and said that the petitioner has “relied upon false, baseless and hearsay allegations”. &nbsp;

An Indian woman and her son were allegedly killed by their house help in New Delhi for being scolded, police said on Wednesday (July 3). The police said that the case is from New Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area and the house help has been apprehended while he was on the run. The house help, who is the prime accused, was identified as Mukesh (24). According to police, the case surfaced when the woman's husband found the door locked and noticed blood marks on the staircase. Further investigation in the case is underway and the police is trying to probe if anyone else was involved in the case. “The bodies of a woman, Ruchika (42) and her son, Krish (14) were found at their residence in the Lajpat Nagar-1 area. The suspect house help has been apprehended.,” the Delhi Police told news agency ANI. About the accused, the Delhi Police said, "He works as a driver/shop helper at the garment shop" which was run by the victim", police said adding that further investigation is underway.

The al-Qaida-linked JNIM extremist group claimed responsibility for the coordinated attack on several Malian army positions in the country’s west and central regions. One position was in Diboli, across the border from Senegal, which has been largely spared the extremist attacks. “The border region to Senegal is a major gateway for trade and imports from Dakar ports to Mali that had been relatively stable for years,” said Ulf Laessing, head of the Sahel program at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. “This will also worry border communities in Senegal.” Malian army spokesperson Col. Majo Souleymane Dembélé said on national television that the army had “neutralized” 80 attackers. There were no details on any casualties among soldiers. &nbsp;

It is important to note that this was a non-structural trim component, fitted onto the window for the purpose of shade," the airline added."Cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout the flight, and there was no impact on passenger safety," it added.It further stressed that Q400 aircraft are equipped with multiple layers of window panes, "including a robust, pressure-bearing outer pane, ensuring that passenger safety is never at risk, even in the unlikely event of a superficial or cosmetic component coming loose."It added that the frame was fixed upon landing at the next station, in accordance with standard maintenance procedures.This comes weeks after the deadly Air India crash in Ahmedabad, leading to the death of nearly 300 people on board. A female teacher of a prominent school in Mumbai has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old male student on multiple occasions in the past year and plying him with anti-anxiety pills and alcohol, police said. The woman, 40, who is married and has children, has been charged under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and the Indian Penal Code. The accused woman taught the student when he was in Class XI. She told police that she got attracted to the teenager during meetings to select a dance group for the annual school function in December 2023, and made first sexual advances in January 2024.&nbsp;<h2>Accused roped in female friend to convince teen</h2>&nbsp;As the survivor was initially reluctant and started avoiding her, the teacher approached one of her female friends for help. The accused’s friend, who has also been charged, reached out to the minor and reportedly told him that relationships between older women and teenage boys have “become quite common” and that he and the teacher were “made for each other” after which the student decided to meet the accused, said a police officer seeking anonymity.&nbsp;Subsequently, the teacher picked up the boy in a car and took him to a secluded place. “She undressed him forcefully and sexually assaulted him. When the student developed anxiety in the next few days, she gave him some anti-anxiety tablets,” the officer said.&nbsp;The teacher then started getting the student drunk before taking him to five-star hotels in South Mumbai and near the airport, where she coerced him into having sexual relations, another officer said.<h2> Family noticed changes in teen’s behaviour</h2>&nbsp;Police said the incident came to light when the teen’s family noticed a change in his behaviour and confronted him. The student narrated his plight, but the family decided to keep it under wraps as he would soon pass out from the school and hoped that the teacher would ultimately stop bothering him.However, when the student left school after clearing his Class 12 board examinations this year, he was again contacted by the teacher.&nbsp;“The teacher contacted the student through one of her domestic staff and asked him to meet her. The teen’s family then decided to approach us and register a case,” the officer said.&nbsp;Police said a case has been registered under sections 4 (penetrative sexual assault), 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), and 17 of the POCSO Act, besides provisions of the IPC and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

The first batch of Amarnath Yatris that left from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar early morning today has reached both the base camps in Anantnag’s Pahalgam area and Ganderbal’s Baltal area. Notably, around 5892 Yatris reached Kashmir.The official data suggested that out of 5892 total pilgrims, 3403 pilgrims decided to take the traditional Pahalgam route while 2489 decided to take the Baltal axis. All the Yatris were brought along with a convoy which consisted of 310 vehicles, including 124 buses,42 medium motor vehicles, and 144 light motor vehicles.The first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims was welcomed in the Kashmir Valley with floral garlands. Upon arriving in the Kashmir Valley, the pilgrims were received with a rousing welcome from locals and the administration in districts such as Kulgam, Anantnag, Srinagar, and Bandipora. Local Muslims, alongside police, civil society members, trade fraternities, fruit growers, and market associations, greeted the yatris with garlands and cheers, reflecting Kashmir’s tradition of communal harmony and hospitality.The numbers clearly indicate that faith has overpowered the terror. Some of the Yatris said that bullets and bombs can’t break our faith. The pilgrims this year after the Pahalgam attack have chosen the Pahalgam route instead of the Baltal.Authorities had earlier said that after the Pahalgam attack, there was a drop of 10 percent in the registrations.
