India sent a heavy-duty Russian cargo plane on October 2 to Antarctica to record atmospheric and climate changes in Antarctica. The cargo plane was sent with large scientific instruments and equipment for research. The cargo plane will fly to its destination in the southern hemisphere over the next few days en route to South Africa’s Cape Town.&nbsp;India has been conducting scientific research in Antarctica since 1981. Throughout these years, both research teams and equipment have been sent to Antarctica via ships, often operated by other countries. Since the scientific equipment and gear used for scientific experiments are of a high-end and specialised nature compared to regular cargo shipments, the sea route was selected to keep in mind the operational cost and load-carrying capacity.&nbsp;However, the volatile geopolitical situation in recent times, delays in obtaining permissions and shipment approvals, and unreliable sea freight services were among the major concerns for the Goa-based National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), the nodal agency responsible for organising India’s scientific expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic.&nbsp;“Post the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent disruption in the supply chain, our scientific shipments to Antarctica were facing unacceptable delays. As a result, researchers would be forced to wait for their shipments to arrive, thus defeating the whole purpose of the mission. Two of our latest missions to Antarctica experienced a delay in shipment deliveries,” Thamban Meloth, director, NCPOR, told The Indian Express.<h3>Why has India never sent its shipments via air in past?</h3>When Meloth was questioned about why India never considered sending its shipments via air, he replied, “The need was felt due to the supply-chain problem and the delays in shipment deliveries. Also, air cargo is an expensive affair, needs planning and co-ordination as the cargo plane from Russia requires to be re-routed via India. However, the volatile geopolitical situation in recent times, delays in obtaining permissions and shipment approvals, and unreliable sea freight services were among the major concerns for the Goa-based National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), the nodal agency responsible for organising India’s scientific expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. “Post the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent disruption in the supply chain, our scientific shipments to Antarctica were facing unacceptable delays. As a result, researchers would be forced to wait for their shipments to arrive, thus defeating the whole purpose of the mission. Two of our latest missions to Antarctica experienced a delay in shipment deliveries,” Thamban Meloth, director, NCPOR, told The Indian Express. Why has India never sent its shipments via air in past? When Meloth was questioned about why India never considered sending its shipments via air, he replied, “The need was felt due to the supply-chain problem and the delays in shipment deliveries. Also, air cargo is an expensive affair, needs planning and co-ordination as the cargo plane from Russia requires to be re-routed via India. Significantly, the event will host more than 40 foreign observers from 32 countries and over 100 national delegates, making it a globally relevant forum for marine pollution response.The exercise will be overseen by Director General Paramesh Sivamani, Chief, Indian Coast Guard, and Chairperson, NOSDCP, who will assess the level of preparedness and synergy among the participating agencies.&nbsp;To showcase India’s operational preparedness, the ICG will deploy a comprehensive array of pollution response assets, including ships and aircraft configured for combating maritime pollution. The drills will highlight the multi-tiered response strategy of the ICG and reinforce the importance of coordinated maritime operations involving both national and international partners. The ongoing NATPOLREX stands out as it would involve a demonstration of oil spill cleanup at a beach. Experts say, a litre of oil that reaches the shore would end up creating 100kg of debris and waste, which is why coastal cleanup is a critical aspect of Marine pollution response.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;NATPOLREX-X 2025 will reaffirm India’s&nbsp;commitment to marine environmental protection, aligning with the national vision of sustainable development and ecological responsibility. The exercise will further strengthen inter-agency cooperation, promote the adoption of best practices, and set new benchmarks in maritime environmental stewardship, operational readiness, and technological integration.&nbsp;Speaking at the inaugural event, Indian Coast Guard Chief, Director General Paramesh, said that the recent ship accidents off India's West Coast would be examined and analyzed at the NATPOLREX technical sessions. He added that the Indian Coast Guard's response and ability to prevent significant damage to the Kerala coast is testimony to the preparedness and synergy of the Indian forces.&nbsp;&nbsp;He highlighted that the ICG's airborne and seaborne teams braved the harsh southwest monsoon, swiftly rescued distressed crew members, and ensured that the pristine maritime environmental of the Kerala coast remained free from pollution. The &nbsp;second autopsy report of singer Zubeen Garg was handed over to his wife, Garima Saikia Garg in Assam on Saturday (Oct 5) as the state's Crime Investigation Department (CID) intensified its probe into the death of the singer in Singapore last month. However, Garima returned the postmortem report to the police, saying that it is not her "personal document" and it is the investigators who should decide whether the report should be made available to the public or not.&nbsp;"As the investigation is going on, I did not consider the report as my personal document. So, I have returned the same with the investigating officer," said Garg while speaking to reporters.&nbsp;After handing back the report given to her by CID Additional SP Moramee Das, Garima said she had full faith in the investigation that should uncover the reason behind the death of her husband and singer Zubeen Garg.&nbsp;"I don't know anything about law. Whether making it public will hamper the ongoing probe, I don't know. That is why I have returned the report. If it can be made public, then you will get it from them," she added.&nbsp;She then went on to question Zubeen's band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami for not immediately coming out in the open over his claims of the the singer being poisoned.&nbsp;"If Shekhar had known it, why did he hide it for so long? Anyway, a probe is going on. With continuous rainfall causing widespread damage and increasing the risk of landslides, Kalimpong district remains in a critical phase. Several roads in this district are completely blocked, and communication lines remain disrupted.&nbsp;A landslide took place between Pedong and Rishikhola, on National Highway 717E, the alternative route which connects Siliguri and Sikkim, bringing all traffic to a standstill. officials have said that road clearance operations as extremely difficult due to the continuous rainfall.

A man drowned his four-month-old son by throwing him into a water-filled drum and later took his own life, the Maharashtra police said Saturday. The incident took place at Talwada Village in Georai Taluka of Beed district.&nbsp;Police said that the individual identified as Amol Sonavane has already attempted to kill himself in the past. A few days back, Amol and his wife attempted to die by suicide following a domestic dispute; however, they were rescued just in time and rushed to a local hospital. Later, the couple was discharged from the local hospital on Thursday, according to a report in NDTV.&nbsp;Meanwhile, the bodies of Amol and his son were rushed to the Talwara Primary Health Centre for post-mortem examination. When there was no response to repeated knocks, ITBP personnel broke a window and found him hanging. Soon, the 47-year-old was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.&nbsp;Police said they recovered a suicide note in which he accused a Bihar Police SHO of misconduct and harassment. The case is under investigation, and further action will follow as directed by senior officers.

Fair to say the negotiations are challenging and important issues remain to be solved."&nbsp;Last month, the 13th round took place in Delhi, but the ambassador pointed, that despite the "direct involvement of Commissioners Sefcovic and Hansen on the EU side," the talks "did not result in the sort of breakthrough, which was expected".&nbsp;So far, both sides have provisionally closed 11 chapters, covering areas such as Intellectual properties, customs and trade facilitation, &nbsp;transparency, good regulatory practices, mutual administrative assistance, SMEs, sustainable food system, dispute settlement, competition and subsidy, digital trade chapter, and anti-fraud practices. The focus remains on enhancing market access and addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers.&nbsp;"The EU was and is still ready to conclude on a meaningful package. The results of testing these samples were shared with us late yesterday evening, 3rd October 2025. Hours after the Union Health Ministry on Friday issued a statement on the reported deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan due to alleged consumption of cough syrups, the Rajasthan government suspended the state drug controller and stopped the distribution of medicines manufactured by Kaysons Pharma, a Jaipur-based company.&nbsp;All 19 medicines manufactured by the pharma company has been stopped for supply by the Medical and Health Department of the state till further orders.&nbsp;Drug controller Rajaram Sharma has been suspended for allegedly influencing the process of determining drug standards, the department said, as reported by news agency PTI.&nbsp;The move comes after two children died and at least 10 others reported ill after allegedly consuming the syrup, over the past two weeks. The Union Health Ministry on Friday issued a statement on the reported deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan due to alleged consumption of cough syrups, and ruled out any contamination due to chemicals such as Diethylene Glycol (DEG) or Ethylene Glycol (EG) in them after conducting tests. Reacting to the quality concerns related to cough syrups in Madhya Pradesh, health ministry said that a joint team consisting of representatives from National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), National Institute of Virology (NIV), Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), and others, visited the site in the state.&nbsp;“Various samples were collected in coordination with the state authorities including samples of various cough syrups. As per the test results, none of the samples contained Diethylene Glycol (DEG) or Ethylene Glycol (EG), contaminants that are known to cause serious kidney injury,” the union health ministry said in the statement.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“The cough syrups and cold medications should not be prescribed or dispensed to children under 2 years. These are generally not recommended for ages below 5 years,” the advisory said. Any use for ages above 5 years should follow careful clinical evaluation with close supervision and strict adherence to appropriate dosing, the shortest effective duration and avoiding multiple drug combinations, it added. “Non-pharmacological measures, including adequate hydration, rest, supportive measures should be first line of approach,” the advisory noted.
