Pralhad Joshi, India's Minister for New and Renewable Energy said that there is a high potential for offshore wind energy generation in the Western state of Gujarat and the Southern state of Tamil Nadu. He said that the offshore trials conducted using floating LIDAR (light detection and ranging) buoys have shown that the Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) is at 37 per cent in Gujarat and about 50 per cent in Tamil Nadu. The CUF is a measure of the actual energy a wind farm generates compared to its theoretical maximum output it can deliver. This data helps determine the efficiency of the wind plant.&nbsp;&nbsp;He elaborated that the tender for executing 500-megawatt offshore wind projects, one off Gujarat and one off Tamil Nadu would be floated in February 2026. Citing another possibility, said that there is a likelihood of a single tender being floated for a 1000-megawatt offshore wind project in either Tamil Nadu or Gujarat.&nbsp;&nbsp;Addressing the 7th&nbsp;edition of industry event 'Windergy India' in Chennai today, the Minister urged industry stakeholders including original equipment manufacturers and component manufacturers to enhance local content in wind projects to 85 per cent from the current 64 per cent. He said that increasing domestic value addition is essential to strengthen India’s clean energy supply chain amidst evolving global dynamics and rising geo political challenges.He added that India has the world’s fourth-largest renewable energy capacity, and India’s wind energy capacity ranking is also the fourth in the world.&nbsp;'Windergy 2025' witnessed the participation of a German delegation led by Johann Saathoff, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Furthering Indo-German cooperation in the renewable energy sector, an MoU was inked between the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation and the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) to cooperate on offshore wind energy development, technology transfer, and policy dialogue. This is as part of the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) between Indian and Germany.&nbsp;Commending the contribution of Southern Indian states in the renewable energry sector, Pralhad Joshi noted that from the first wind farms to cutting-edge turbines, Tamil Nadu has led India’s clean energy journey and continues to inspire other states. Further, he stated that Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh together contribute almost half of India’s total wind energy capacity, which stands at 54 gigawatts.&nbsp;&nbsp;Referring to India's decadal goal, Joshi said that India is working towards generating 500 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030, in which wind energy will play a major part by contributing 100 gigawatts. He outlined that India presently has a 54-gigawatt installed capacity of wind energy, while another 30 gigawatts are in progress.&nbsp;&nbsp;Citing the data from the ongoing year, he said that 3 gigawatts of new wind capacity has been added and that it could reach a total of 6 gigawatts by March 2026, and it is on track to becoming the highest-ever annual addition. For context, 4 gigawatts of wind energy was added in the previous year.&nbsp;&nbsp;In financial year 2024-25, wind energy generated 3.35 billion units of electricity, which is about 5 per cent of India's total generation. The Prime Minister mentioned how the Congress Chief Minister of Punjab, in the presence of a member of the Gandhi family, was threatening Biharis not to enter Punjab, while Congress members were applauding. All this shows that when Congress treats Biharis in Telangana in this manner, how can they come to Bihar to seek votes? The children, aged between 13 and 17 years, had reportedly travelled from different parts of Maharashtra to attend an audition for an ad shoot being held at the studio.Mumbai Police teams, including senior officers and a quick response unit, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the standoff.&nbsp;Witnesses reported seeing children peeking out through the studio’s glass windows as they were confined by the suspect, Rohit Arya, an employee at the studio who also runs a YouTube channel.In the video, Arya insisted that his demands were not financial but “moral” and “ethical”. He warned authorities not to provoke him and issued a chilling threat. “A slightest wrong move from your end will trigger me to set this entire place on fire and die in it... Please do not trigger me to do any harm to anybody.”&nbsp;Police are interrogating the accused to determine the exact motive for the act.

The assistant then asked him to pay various fees: registration charges, identity card charges, verification, GST, TDS, processing fee, etc. Over the period of about two months, from September to October 23, he made over 100 transfers using UPI and IMPS. As he started to raise concerns, the fraudsters blocked him. Soon, he approached the police and an FIR was registered.&nbsp;“We have launched a probe into the cell numbers and bank accounts used by the fraudsters,” said the Police personnel.Police reports suggest that such cyber fraud has been rising over the last couple of years, specifically since late 2022. After the crash, Kumar and Sharma fled the scene, only to return later, masked, to collect pieces of their damaged car before disappearing again. Initially treated as an accident, the case was reclassified as murder after the police uncovered the couple's intentional actions. Manoj Kumar and Aarti Sharma have been arrested and charged with murder, while the investigation into the case continues.&nbsp;Manoj, a martial arts instructor from Kerala, and Aarati, originally from Jammu and Kashmir, had been married for five years and resided in the city. “In a moment of anger, Manoj abruptly changed direction and chased after the individuals. After spotting Darshan once more, he drove recklessly, accelerating to slam his car into the back of the scooter before quickly driving away from the scene,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying to The Times of India.

On October 22, the 82-year old retired officer collapsed and died of shock after discovering that he and his 80-year old wife had been duped in a digital arrest scam. ‘Digital arrest’ is a type of cybercrime scam where fraudsters impersonate law enforcement or government officials to intimidate victims into sending money or sensitive information. Scammers use fear-mongering tactics, like claims of arrest warrants, frozen bank accounts, and involvement in illegal activities, to coerce victims into making quick financial decisions.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to the investigators, the fraud took place in the months of August and September this year by conmen posing as Mumbai cyber police and CBI. The callers falsely accused the couple of being involved in a money-laundering case and claimed their Aadhaar card and bank account were linked to suspicious transactions.

The scammers forced them to remain isolated at home — a tactic now infamously known as ‘digital arrest’ — by keeping their phone cameras on and constantly monitoring their movements. This happened for three days. 

And during this period, the scammers instructed them to deposit money in five different accounts.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The couple has three daughters who lives abroad and were not aware about this situation. It was only later when the couple realised they were scammed, informed one of the daughters who asked them to file a police report. The victim’s wife filed a police complaint who said that her husband was under immense pressure after they got to know that they lost all their life savings to a fraud.

Investigators have registered a case and begun tracing the money trail and digital footprints. 

The scam has once again raised concerns about the alarming rise in ‘digital arrest’ frauds across Maharashtra.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership has been a significant factor in the global acceptance of India as a key player in international affairs. He is considered one of the most prominent leaders. His foreign trips are marked by personal rapport including hugs and handshakes with leaders and diaspora events . But in recent months, Modi was missing from some major global meetings, where India was represented by officials or ministers. Particularly noteworthy are the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt and the ASEAN–India Summit in Kuala Lumpur. Is India re-evaluating its diplomatic tactics, or is it just trying to stay away from awkward situations?<h2>The Gaza Peace Summit: A calculated absence?</h2>India was represented at the landmark event by the Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh when the world leaders met in Sharm el-Sheikh to discuss the Gaza peace plan. The summit, co-chaired by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, brought together more than 20 heads of state, which included Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.&nbsp;Was Modi's absence intentional?&nbsp;As per the reports in the Indian media, New Delhi was concerned about the political fallout caused by Pakistan's participation in the discussions, given that relations remain strained in the wake of Operation Sindoor. The fact that Trump was the prominent figure in the summit may have led Modi's team to exercise caution, given the US president's unpredictable rhetoric or claims of having mediated to resolve India-Pakistan tensions. The likes of Shashi Tharoor in the opposition were quick to condemn the decision as “a missed opportunity for India to play a central role in shaping West Asia’s peace architecture.”<h2>ASEAN Summit: Priorities vs&nbsp;Optics</h2>In October, Modi also decided against in-person participation at the ASEAN–India Summit, choosing instead to attend via video link. This summit was viewed as an opportunity for India to further its “Act East Policy” — especially given China’s expanding influence in the Indo-Pacific. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) officially said that scheduling conflicts and the proximity of the Diwali festival were the reasons for his virtual participation.&nbsp;&nbsp;But reports pointed to a more nuanced scenario: one reason could be wanting to avoid a meeting with Trump on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur, which Modi’s team may have wanted to postpone until trade talks were concluded. External Affairs Minister S&nbsp; Jaishankar attended the summit&nbsp;and thus, India was still represented, without the risks of any high-stakes confrontations. Analysts such as Brahma Chellaney commented that the move was indicative of “the growing trend of selective diplomacy — putting engagements with tangible outcomes in the first place and over visibility through ceremonies.”<h2>Pattern or coincidence?</h2>The rapid succession of these two incidents has already led to speculation about a major strategic recalibration in India’s foreign policy. If we look at the past, Modi was everywhere, very often present at global events, which were mainly G20, COP summits, BRICS and the Quad. Therefore, his absence at several events in late 2025 is a striking contrast. The pattern does not suggest withdrawal, but rather, planned selectivity. “India is claiming that it will be the master when it comes to negotiations,” said Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty, a former diplomat. “Power doesn’t necessarily mean being present at every forum — sometimes, staying away is a form of indicating.”<h2>Strategic Motivations</h2>1. Avoiding Unfavourable OpticsNew Delhi is extremely conscious of the optics related to Modi possibly meeting&nbsp; - or being even seen in the same room with - Pakistan’s leaders, or taking part in the summits that are dominated by the Western narrative. Participating in a peace conference that has Islamabad as one of the parties risks media interpretations of “equivalence” — a matter that is delicate for a government that has very clearly labelled Pakistan as a terrorist supporter. 2. Domestic and Political PrioritiesWith some important state elections - particularly Bihar -&nbsp; right around the corner and some major Hindu holidays being celebrated, Modi’s domestic calendar is really crowded. The government might also want to show “India-first” optics at home, and give preference to domestic lead over global appearances, especially when the international forums provide very little policy gains.&nbsp;3. Strategic autonomy and controlIndia’s current diplomatic posture emphasises multi-alignment — engaging with the US, Russia, and the Global South simultaneously. Meanwhile, the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi highlighted that the ventilation index of the city, showing the ability of the atmosphere to spread pollutants, remained under the favourable level of 6,000 m/s, according to the news agency PTI.&nbsp;Light winds blowing at less than 10 kmph, combined with dense fog, have hindered the dispersion of pollutants, leading to a hazy sky. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported visibility levels of 1,000 metres in Palam and 800 metres in Safdarjung.&nbsp;Areas such as Kartavya Path, Anand Vihar, Burari and Akshardham were shrouded in fog during the early morning hours. Vivek Vihar and Anand Vihar also registered “severe” air quality on Monday, recording AQI levels of 415 and 408, respectively. It has been almost a week since the young doctor took her own life by hanging, and police are investigating the suicide case from all the possible angles. In the latest turn of events, fresh CCTV footage has surfaced showing the victim entering her hotel room just before her death. The footage, dated October 23 at around 1:30 am, shows the doctor arriving at the hotel, signing the register at the reception, and proceeding to her room without anyone accompanying her. Hotel owner Dilip Bhosale, who provided the footage, confirmed she was alone and that the room door was later found locked from the inside.&nbsp;The Satara Police are verifying all the details of the CCTV and are also sourcing footage from the nearby areas.&nbsp;&nbsp;The doctor, posted in a government hospital, was found dead in the hotel room in Phaltan late on the night of October 23. Mumbai: More than 400 Mumbaikars, young and not so young, spent a better part of this morning–and the last leg of their Diwali holidays– giving a bit of their time for a city they love. 

In India’s financial capital city Mumbai, people volunteered to clean the city’s coastline at Juhu and collected 1946 kgs of plastic waste. 

All this will be recycled into amenities and which was also part of the awareness exercises, inculcating behaviour change and ensuring no waste goes into landfill.

 All this was done under a special initiative - “Jallosh: Clean Coasts, Restore the Shore” which is a citizen-led initiative. 

Led by Project Mumbai, UNICEF India and YuWaah’s Green Rising and supported by the BMC and the Government of Maharashtra’s State Climate Action Cell and Majhi Vasundhara, apart from NSS, Nine is Mine, Maharashtra Youth for Climate Action, representing Mumbai’s college youth.
