The Union Minister for Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Wednesday (03 Dec) said snooping is neither possible nor will it happen with the Sanchar Saathi safety app. His clarifications come after he said on Tuesday (02 Dec) that users would have the option to activate the app only if they chose to, and would also be allowed to delete it.&nbsp;Scindia's statement came after controversy erupted following his ministry's direction to smartphone manufacturers to preinstall a government-backed cybersecurity app on all new devices. The opposition sharply criticised the move, accusing the government of using the app as a surveillance tool against political rivals and citizens.

Sanchar Saathi app se "na snooping sambhav hai, na snooping hoga," the minister added during Question Hour.&nbsp;Addressing concerns over the app, the minister said the government intends to empower people by giving them tools to safeguard themselves. ""Sanchar Sathi app has a proven record; a tool to save people from 'cancer of fraud'," he added.<h3>Oppositions call for the withdrawal of the directive</h3>Amid the row over the Sanchar Saathi app, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram told PTI, "What the minister (Jyotiraditya Scindia) is saying is contrary to the directive issued by the DoT. If what the minister is saying is correct, the directive must be withdrawn. The directive very clearly said that the App has to be pre-loaded in all smartphones and can not be deleted... that option of delete can not be there - that is what the directive is saying. If the minister is saying something contrary to the directive, then the directive must be withdrawn. As long as the directive is there, the minister's words don't carry weight."&nbsp;In addition, Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala also said that the Sanchar Saathi app will act as surveillance through which the government can track every activity of the smartphone user using the app. Raising security concerns from international hackers, he added that if they successfully hack the Sanchar Saathi app, then there will be a huge data breach.

The accused, held in custody for over four years, was absent on 55 of 85 scheduled trial dates.&nbsp;While granting bail, a bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra expressed astonishment at this blatant disregard for the judicial process, calling it a serious violation of fundamental rights. The Court ordered the Head of Maharashtra’s Prison Department to launch a full inquiry and take strict action against the officials responsible.&nbsp;The court ordered, “We direct the Director General of Prisons, State of Maharashtra or whoever is the designated Head of Department of Prisons, to conduct a personal inquiry into the matter and fix responsibility and take action against the persons concerned. It is made clear that if any attempt is made to protect or shield any person, the Director General of Prisons/Head of Department of Prisons to whom we are entrusting the inquiry, shall be personally held responsible for the same.”&nbsp;The Supreme Court observed that the undertrial’s repeated absence from court hearings not only violated his fundamental rights but also denied him the crucial opportunity to raise complaints about mistreatment inside the prison.&nbsp;The court further stated, “We are shocked at the conduct of the State authorities.The production of an accused before the Court is not only to ensure speedy trial but more importantly, as a safeguard so that the prisoner is not abused otherwise, and he comes directly in contact with the Court so as to air his grievances if any, against the authorities. We find that there has been grave infraction of such fundamental safeguard, which is appalling and shocking. Newborns were gently carried out, swaddled in sheets along with their IV drips to ensure their safety.Fire Officer Pradyumansingh Jadeja said the blaze began in the basement and quickly spread throughout the building. We have rescued people using stretchers and ladders. So far, 19-20 individuals, including children and newborns from the hospitals in the complex, have been safely evacuated. There are no casualties. Firefighting and cooling operations are still underway, with over 50 firefighters and six fire engines on the scene, he said.All patients were shifted to the nearest hospital. Eyewitnesses said, around 20 children were admitted to the hospital on the first floor of the building. The fire department was immediately alerted, but residents didn't wait for them to arrive.
