Disregarding the Triple Talaq ordinance passed by the Parliament on Wednesday, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that the bill will prove injustice for the Muslimwomen.

Owaisi said that bringing a penal provision in marriage waswrong as marriage isconsidered as a civil contract in Islam.

He said, "This ordinance is against the Muslim women. This ordinance will not provide justice to Muslim women. In Islam, marriage is a civil contract and bringing penal provisions in it is wrong".

Citing the ordinance as unconstitutional, he further said that it was against the Constitution's right to equality as it was being made only for Muslims.

He also asked theAll India Muslim Personal Law Board and women organisations to challenge the ordinance in the apex court.

"This Ordinance is unconstitutional. The ordinance is against the Constitution's right to equality as it is being made only for Muslims. All India Muslim Personal Law Board and women organisations should challenge this ordinance in the Supreme Court".

The Union Cabinettoday approved an ordinancemakingTriple Talaq a punishable offence.

The Bill proposes a three-year jail term for a Muslim man who divorces his wife through Triple Talaq, in any form of spoken, written or by electronic means such as email, SMS, and WhatsApp

The Opposition had been demanding a debate on the issue in Parliament. The'Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage Bill' which was passed in the lower House of Parliament in the Lok Sabha on December 29, 2017, is yet to be passed in the Upper House the Rajya Sabha.

The Opposition had asked the government to refer the bill to the Select Committee for further scrutiny. The billcould not be tabled in the monsoon session of Parliament due to non-consensus. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu noted that no consensus could be built around it.
