'To Nawaz Sharif from Raveena Tandon': When Indian soldiers wrote actor's name on bombs during Kargil War

Kargil Vijay Diwas

India on Friday marked the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas - a day when the Indian Army announced the successful culmination of "Operation Vijay" and declared victory after a nearly three-month-long battle on the heights of Kargil in Ladakh in 1999.

July 26 is observed as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan in the war.

We hear stories of Kargil heroes who bravely fought the battle, making the nation proud. But not all stories were from the battlefield.

One such incident included famous Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon and Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Reports emerged that Raveena was Nawaz's favourite actress back in the day. Hence, the Indian Air Force (IAF) planned to send him some bombs as gifts with the actor's name on them.

An image of the bomb, with the text "From Raveena Tandon To Nawaz Sharif"written on it, leaked in papers and is now being shared on social media.

Media reports said that the bombs were directed towards Sharif. WION can't independently verify whether or not those bombs were used during the war.

Raveena also spoke about it years later during a Twitter spaces session organised by Hindustan Times in 2022. She had said, "I saw it much later. However, I would advise the whole world that if anything can be negotiated with love and talk, please do it. Khoon ka rang laal idhar bhi hai aur udhar bhi (People bleed on both sides of the border)."

"No one should feel proud about any mother losing their sons or daughters... If I have to stand there [defending the border] to safeguard my country, de do mere haath mein bandook, main vahaan khadi ho jaaungi (give me a gun and I'll stand there)," she added.
