
International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21. This year, Srinagar will be hosting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the celebrations with 3000-4000 people expected to attend the event at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC).
The event will take place along the banks of the Dal Lake in Srinagar. Srinagar is all set to host the Prime Minister on this occasion. After taking oath for his third term, this will be the Prime Minister's first visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir police have taken adequate security measures ahead of the event. The region has been declared a temporary red zone, banning drones and quadcopters from flying across the city until Friday.
The prime minister is expected to land in Srinagar on Thursday evening for International Yoga Day Celebrations 2024. It is said that sports personalities, students, party workers, etc will be attending the celebrations.

The theme for this year's celebration is 'Yoga for Self and Society' emphasising the role of yoga in shaping both individuals and society.
Back in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed that June 21 should be observed as International Yoga Day. The United Nations General Assembly gave its assent and declared June 21 as International Yoga Day.
A total of 84 countries participated in the yoga session at one place and gradually each year witnessed an increasing number of participants from across the world. Last year, in 2023, a total of around 23.4 crore people from across the world participated in the Yoga Dayevent, based on data from a government press release.

Prime Minister Modi has played an instrumental role in spreading the importance of Yoga all around the globe. In the past ten years, he has celebrated this day with great enthusiasm motivating the people to join him in this endeavour.
