Randeep Surjewala also requested "friends in the media to not rely upon innuendos."
Earlier today, media reports had quoted Sonia Gandhi as saying that she will retire from politics once her son Rahul Gandhi takes over the leadership of the party.
Rahul Gandhi, who has led the party in its campaigning for the Gujarat assembly elections, was elected as Congress president last week. He is expected to take over officially as Congress president on December 16.

In 2011, she had visited the US for surgery but the Congress refused to provide information about her health. She has been regularly visiting the US for health check-ups ever since.
