Seven people in the Indian state of Rajasthan, on Sunday (Aug 11), drowned after they went to swim in an overflowing river and started making reels. According to a report by the news agency PTI, the incident occurred at the Banganga River in Rajasthan's Shreenagar village.
The river had been swollen due to heavy rainfall in the past few days. A total of eight people had gone to swim at the river but only one survived. "Seven youths, including three cousins, drowned in deep water while one escaped," Bayana Sadar Station House Officer (SHO) Balram Yadav told PTI.
Victims' bodies handed over to their families
The person who survived reached the village and informed people. Villagers reached the spot, took out the bodies and also informed the police, the report said.

The deceased have been identified as Pawan Singh Jatav (20), Saurabh Jatav (18), and Gaurav Jatav (16), all three cousins, Bhupendra Jatav (18), Shantanu Jatav (18), Lakkhi Jatav (20) and Pawan Jatav (22).
All the victims belonged to the same village in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district.
Similar incidents reported in Rajasthan
A similar incident was reported in the state on Sunday when five people were swept away in the overflowing Kanota Dam in Jaipur. Citing the police, a report by the Deccan Herald said that a total of six people went for a swim at the dam and they were swept away by the strong currents.
Only one of them could return to the shore safely. Incidents of drowning were also reported in Rajasthan on Saturday.
