Pune Porsche accident: Accused teen’s bail cancelled, sent to observation home till June 5

India's Justice Juvenile Board on Wednesday (May 22) cancelled the bail granted to the 17-year-old teenager in a hit-and-run case in which two people lost their lives.
In the wee hours of Sunday, the teen ran over two motorbike-borne, 24-year-old IT professionals Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, in Kalyani Nagar, Pune with a Porsche car. The police claimed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at that time.
According to Pune Police officials, the Juvenile Justice Board remanded the minor accused to a Rehabilitation/Observation home till June 5.

Police previously argued in front of the Juvenile Justice Board in favour of the remand of the accused on the basis that he is not safe outside as people will possibly attack him. Also, people are safe if he is inside. They also asked that the accused should be treated as an adult.
The case became a matter of massive outrage when reports emerged that the accused got VIP treatment after he was arrested.

As per reports, he was allowed to eat pizza at the police station and take a nap, and his medical test was allegedly delayed. He was allowed to walk out on bail with the condition of writing a 300-word essay and helping the traffic police.
After his bail, Vishal Agarwal, the teen's father, who is a real estate developer, was sent to two days of police custody by a session court on Wednesday. Pune Police sought his custody for further questioning as Agarwal was not cooperating in the probe, the remand copy revealed.
Police also nabbed the proprietor and manager of the bar where the underage accused was served alcohol before the accident.

Tragic accident becomes politics
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responded to the accident as he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The political said on X, "If a 16-17-year-old from an affluent family drives a Porsche while intoxicated and causes the deaths of two individuals, he's merely asked to write an essay."
"Why aren't similar requests made to bus, truck, Uber, or auto drivers in similar situations?,"he questioned.
Media reports claimed that the teen's grandfather Surendra Kumar Agarwal is facing trial in a shootout case which is linked to underworld don Chhota Rajan, who is in prison.
On being asked about the same, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, "Whatever connection there is, complete investigation will be done. Action will be taken on everything."
