Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday thanked his Pakistan counterpart for 'respecting sentiments of India'

''I would like to thank the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan Niazi for respecting the sentiments of India. I thank him for his cooperation,'' said Modi after inaugurating the integrated checkpost of Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur.

The checkpost connects Punjab to Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan's Narowal district.

''The opening of Kartarpur Sahib corridor before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devi Ji has brought us immense happiness,'' Modi said.

Modi inaugurated passenger terminal building where pilgrims will get clearance to travel through the corridor.

Earlier, Modi honoured with "Qaumi Sewa" Award by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for the initiative to open Kartarpur corridor and other initiatives.

Meanwhile, the first batch of Indian pilgrims have already arrived in Kartarpur in Pakistan.

The first batch comprising 500 pilgrims will include several dignitaries including former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Amarinder Singh and former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
