Parents in India's Kota forget their 3-year-old daughter in car, child dies of suffocation

A three-year-old girl in the Indian city of Kota suffocated to death in a locked car while her parents and elder sister were attending a wedding, the news agency PTI reported on Thursday (May 16)citingthe police. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening.

The victim, her parents, and her sister had gone to attend a weddingat Jorawarpura village. Speaking to news agency PTI, a police official said that as the family reached the wedding venue, the mother and the elder daughter came out of the car while the father went to park the vehicle.

Presuming that the three-year-old went inside the venue with her mother and sister, the man got out of the car, locked it, andproceeded to attendthe wedding.

The police official said thatfor two hours,the parents were interacting with different groups at the function.When they meteach otherand asked about their youngest daughter, they realised she was with neither of them and started searching for her.

The three-year-old girl wasunconscious in the back seat of the carandwas immediately rushedto a hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival, the official added.

Despite the circumstances, the family refused to conduct anautopsy and to file a police case.
