Power Minister R K Singh on Thursday announced that government has sanctioned an additional compensation of Rs 20 Lakh ex-gratiafor the families of those who died at the NTPC’s power plant explosion on Wednesday in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli district.

“Additional compensation ofRs 20 lakh will be given to the family of those killed, Rs 10 lakh for seriously injured and Rs 2 lakh to those who suffered minorinjuries. This is over and above the statutory compensation,” Singh's office said on Twitter.

Singh also visitedthe explosion site, accompanied by Gurdeep Singh, NTPC chairman and managing director (CMD). They also visited the injured in the district hospital.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the boilerexplosion rose to 26.
