Power Minister R K Singh on Thursday announced that government has sanctioned an additional compensation of Rs 20 Lakh ex-gratia for the families of those who died at the NTPC’s power plant explosion on Wednesday in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli district.

“Additional compensation of Rs 20 lakh will be given to the family of those killed, Rs 10 lakh for seriously injured and Rs 2 lakh to those who suffered minor injuries. This is over and above the statutory compensation,” Singh's office said on Twitter.

Singh also visited the explosion site, accompanied by Gurdeep Singh, NTPC chairman and managing director (CMD). They also visited the injured in the district hospital.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the boiler explosion rose to 26.
