Monsoon Update: IMD issues red alert for Gujarat; heavy rains predicted in these states

Heavy rains have lashed Gujarat leading to a flood-like situation in the state. The situation may aggravate further as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issues a red alert for Tuesday, August 27.
Severe waterlogging has affected several regions in the state, disrupting the normal life of residents. State Education Minister Praful Pansheriya has orderedprimary schools to remain closed on Tuesday.
IMD has warnedof "extremely heavy rainfall" for Gujarat on August 27, while heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected on August 28. The weather condition is likely to remain till August 30.
A press release by IMD for the Saurashtra and Kutch region states, "heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely on 27th August; heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely on 28th & 29th August and heavy rainfall at isolated places on 30th August."
Baroda received maximum rainfall in the state of 280 mm between 8:30 am on August 26 and 5:30 am on August 27. While 120 mm of rain was recorded in Ahmedabad and 190 mm in Rajkot.

The state has been witnessing a flood-like situation since Monday after which National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams carried out rescue and relief operations.
"The water level increased in the morning, causing water to enter the Hanuman Bhagda and Valsad areas, disrupting road connectivity. We rescued a pregnant woman," NDRF inspector Ramesh Kumar told ANI.
According to reports, three people have lost their lives while seven remain missing. Hundreds have been relocated fromlow-lying areas to safer regions. 13 NDRF and 22 SDRF teams have been deployed in the affected areas.
IMD forecast for other states
IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in East Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday (Aug 27). Very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in West Madhya Pradesh. Rajasthan is likely to witness similar conditions till August 29.
The weather department has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gangetic West Bengal regions over the next two days.
IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi on Tuesday as light to moderate rainfall is expected, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Heavy rainfall warning has also been issued for seven districts of Himachal Pradesh including Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Bilaspur.
