
Ravindra Waikar, from Shiv Sena, won the Mumbai North-West seat against Amol Gajanan Kirtikar of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackrey) by just 48 votes as the Election Commission declared the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha election on Tuesday (Jun 4).
Kirtikar was leading by 1 vote after EVM counting but the neck-to-neck fight ended with Waikar getting 4,52,644 votes, while Kirtikar received 4,52,596.
Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, is part of the NDA alliance.
BJP alliance hoped for a good result in Maharastra, but the performance was not satisfying for the party and allies. It had won 23 seats in 2014 and 2019. But in 2024, it has won 17 seats, with counting still underway.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said that the party will decide on the prime minister candidate of the INDIA bloc on Wednesday.
Uddhav addressed a press conference and said that TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu has also been harassed by the BJP.
"The day our INDIA alliance was formed, we had decided that we wanted to end the dictatorship in the country and save the Constitution. We will decide on the PM candidate tomorrow. All patriots and all people who are harassed by them (BJP) will come with us. Chandrababu has also been harassed by the BJP government," he said.
Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi also shared a similar comment whilerespondingto a question about speculations over the formation of a government.
Rahul Gandhi said that the INDIA bloc will meet on Wednesday and decide whether to approach former partners such as the JD(U) and the TDP to attempt government formation at the Centre.

"We are going to have a meeting with our partners tomorrow. These questions will be raised and answered there," Gandhi told a press conference, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Member of Rajya Sabha Sonia Gandhi and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh present on the stage.
"We won't say anything without asking the opinion of our allies. Our alliance will decide tomorrow and whatever they decide we will act on that," he said.
"India's poorest and backward stood up to save the Constitution," he said.
