Jharkhand Lok Sabha Elections 2019 - A Recap
In the past years, no political party has been able to establish its dominance in the political landscape of Jharkhand. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP-led NDA alliance clinched 12 seats. Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress were able to win one seat each.
In the 2019 Assembly elections, the victory of the Congress political alliance - which included Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress and JMM - has made the 2024 General elections even more complex and unpredictable.
BJP emerged as the state's biggest party in both 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha Elections by clinching a total of 12 out of 14 seats on both occasions.

Political scenario in Jharkhand
In 2024, even though the BJP-led NDA has dominated the last three Lok Sabha Elections in Jharkhand, it is likely to face strong competition from the I.N.D.I.A. alliance, which exhibited its influence in the last assembly elections.

In the wake of such tough competition, the political drama ensued in the state just months before the polls. The Enforcement Directorate arrested Jharkhand's former chief minister and JMM leader Hemant Soren in an alleged money-laundering investigation related to a land scam.
After his arrest on January 31, Soren resigned as the chief minister and has been lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Hotwar, Ranchi. Days later, JMM leader Champai Soren became the next chief minister of the state.
