
An Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer was detained by Uttar Pradesh police on Sunday (May 26) after the dead body of his live-in partnerwas foundin his upscale Noida flat. Saurabh Meena, the IRS officer, was arrested from the Lotus Boulevard apartment complex in Noida's Sector 100 as heis accusedof killing Shilpa Gautam, a human resources executive at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). Her bodywas foundhanging inside her room from a rope made of cloth. As per media reports, Meena had himself alerted the police about Shilpa's condition and claimed that she died by suicide.
According to OP Gautam, the father of the victim, Shilpa andMeenawere in a relationship for the last three yearsafter theyhad met through a dating app. OP Gautam alleged that Meena had promised to marry Shilpabuthefailed to honour his commitment. The father went a step further and accused the IRS officer of deceit and physical abuse.
On the other hand, Saurabh said in his defence that the duo enteredintothe relationship three months ago, not three years.
The police have now registered a case against the IRS officerandan investigation has beenopened. Police are also scrutinising CCTV footage from the society and mobile phones of the two individuals in connection with the case.
Police officials said hehasbeen remandedto judicial custody.
"All aspects of the case are being investigated meticulously," said Manish Kumar Mishra, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Noida.
Officials are waiting for the post-mortem to ascertain the cause of the death.
